Yang Lab

Have you thought of anything to deal with Akuma’s teleport and Balrog’s EX dash punch on wakeup? As for akuma, if you OS the senkyuutai on his wakeup, Yang will just pop up immediately and he teleports away. And for Rog, I know that you can throw him out of it or use an armor breaking move, but if I guess wrong I eat an EX headbutt into ultra. Can’t use the senkyuutai OS because the mixup will hit him instead of whiffing.

Any ideas?

Ok… I’m gonna not do anything… Fuck this.

Poor Yang forums is gonna be left to rot lol

Meh, was really looking forward to it =/

Just ideas, I haven’t cared enough to test them:

VS Akuma, try HK Senkyuutai. It’s slower so it might catch his teleport. Also, OS’ing it has a lot to do with the timing of your jumpin…in some setups it’s possible to get your option selected command to even auto correct, whereas in others it’s either impossible or very difficult (you have to delay the OS command to the very last possible moment).

Against Rog, no character can ever option select his armored punches. The hit absorption causes as a hit, so an OS will never come out. You’re right when you say that if you guess wrong, you eat headbutt into ultra, so you have to judge risk/reward in this case if you want to go for the throw. One thing I can recommend that you toy with, is teleporting to his other side on untechable knockdowns and maybe techable knockdowns if he doesn’t quick rise. The lost charge prevents him from using armor moves and if you meaty him with anything it will stuff his normal headbutts and EX headbutt will wiff/be blocked in time, so HK Teleport (other side) cr.lp, cr.lp+cr.hk should cover all his options.

This is somewhat incorrect. For example if Ken did meaty cr.mk xx lp/mp/hp/ex.dp it would beat wakeup ex dash punch. It just means you can’t beat it by buffering an attack on whiff. You’re right in that it’s difficult since you either A) have to cancel into something with armor be if focus attack or armored attack, B)cancel into a low profile attack that avoids the hitbox or C)cancel into an invincible special that avoids the active frame, it’d suck to trade with a dash punch. Only invincible specials are viable since it’s very difficult to low profile ex.torpedo (which also breaks armor). Those types of O/S also lose to backdash, but if you can press buttons really fast you can probably still get a delayed sweep off.

Also you can low profile headbutt if your’e worried about it. I think cr.mk does but it’ll lose to wakeup ultra :[ doesn’t recover fast enough.

Except if he does the smart thing and blocks on wakeup, your “option selected” shoryuken will come out at leave you to be punished.

Awesome videos HAV. Thanks!

I’ve been coming up with a decent amount of shit lately. Gonna post vids up after SB. Gotta STSFN though…

i wish there were threads that were dedicated to simply shit like this for my chars. u figure that once you have everything else down this is what should be discussed the most…

hav i think that youre a dick but u do a lot for the part of the community who actually plays the games at a high level and i respect that

Thanks. I don’t expect (or want) everyone to like me; I just hope people can appreciate the content.

Not sure if this is common knowledge but in the corner against fei if you do a mk divekick at the top of your jump it will cause his counter ultra to whiff but will hit if he tries to block. Very good bait.

I don’t post in Yang forums often, but thanks a lot. A lot of other stuff you’ve shown has been very useful, and I can say I’m genuinely looking forward to whatever it is you have to add. Best of luck at SB.

OK, so I scrubbed out at SB. 2012 coming out mid December, so I have NEC to use Yang before he gets his balls chopped off. Gonna be coming up with more and more shit in the next two months. For now, here’s some light shit.

I LOVE this shit, because it makes reversal TU whiff, but the best part is that the way Sagat’s body moves for a backdash, or for a Jab TU, he stays at a place for a full punish combo, and the OS’d Senkyutai doesn’t come out.

Basically, the input for this is to dash after the throw… slight pause, then jump MK-> 6321+MK

This works because you cross up, during the motion, and it gets interpreted as a DP, and not like the incomplete HCB that it is.

If Sagat does Jab TU, or Backdash, his body doesn’t go forward, so you don’t cross up before you finish your motion, and you get a motion that doesn’t actually give you a move. You have to make sure you input the motion very fast, because what ACTUALLY happens is that you input the motion before Yang hits the ground, and you get the motion for Senkyutai on the MK RELEASE. If you don’t cross up, 6321+Release MK gets you no move, and you can just combo Sagat as he recovers from the backdash/Jab TU.

If he does a Fierce or EX TU, sometimes, if you have absolute shit reactions like I do, it can throw you off, and you might get a weak punish (like S. FP or something shitty). This covers that, by giving you a tip Senkyutai, and Ultra/EX follow-up without having to think.

Most people probably don’t need this OS, because their reactions aren’t absolute ass, but if nothing else, it gives you a visual on how to make reversal TU whiff off of normal throw.

Again, nothing special… just giving a visual on Yang’s DP FADC OS. It’s easy to use it defensively, but I think it has potential as part of Yang’s normalmix-up. Mashing DP can be an attractive answer to Yang’s side switch confusion. Normally, Yang has to block to account for that, and try to work from there. This gives the ability to remain offensive, while covering reversal attempts, by using invincibility to try to match the reversals… with absolute zero risk.

In this particular scenario, it looks easy to block, but this was one of those reset scenarios with the mean side switch shit. If I stand after that FADC set-up, it crosses under, but if I duck, it crosses under, but un-crosses, and puts me back on the original side. People HATE dealing with that, and adding a bullshit free DP to that is fucking dirty in the mental game.

Picking on Viper again. Nothing original here, really. Just showing the power of OS against Viper. Yang/Viper is dumb since you can OS most offensive actions so she has to deal with you. Pretty much the same jump OS used against Sagat, and then the Short-> EX Senkyutai OS I’ve been running since June.

More picking on Viper. This time with a different OS on the jump-in (this one doesn’t punish EX BK at all though), and ends with a silly cross-under, re-cross, into OS U2. Fun.

Fun, fun, fun… the main reason I use U1 against Cody. Loses to EX Criminal Upper here… but that can be hard to actually get out, with the side switch confusion.

Showing it work on Rog. Works on Sakura, Makoto (loses to EX Karakusa) and Rose also (though U2 is just so fucking good on Rose, I can’t justify U1 even with this).

Enjoy. Discuss.

Good shit as always HAV. I have a few things ive created as well, ill prob post some stuff on sunday.

1 question for whoever can answer. What the holy hell do u do vs a neutral jumping chun li. DP whiffs, cant trip guard her because u get tagged by rh and her shit beats every jump attack of yangs…Thoughts?

so do all the os’s in this thread carry over to 2012?

Dunno. We’re pretty short-staffed at the moment since Dustlooper went back to Abel and HAV stopped playing entirely afaik. I can test them out if I get some time.

I got a Q and i wanna find out if its true or not.
Ive been with Yang ever since and i havent had any trouble with him since the changes too.
People are guessing that Makoto is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy better than him and she has way more dangerous traps than him
Is this true?

I doubt she’s that much better, probably one tier (Mak probably high, Yang mid?). She struggles with characters that have good walk speed and oki, and there’s a lot of Akuma going around. She is way more dangerous than Yang in terms of damage potential though.

Yea, Shes dangerous than Yang in damage potential. But other than that, I still be thinking that Yang is way more better than her. Even though her medium punch is scary when stopping Yang’s divekicks!!!
