XBOX One will play used games. But you have to pay

Although it was unlikely to begin with, and the reason has already been explained, the lack of BC is dissapointing.

Looks like I’ll be starting from scratch, whichever way I go.

Ya know, I’m kinda leaning towards that attitude too. I remember the excitement I had when I saw the first my first glimpse of SMB3 in The Wizard. But that didn’t compare to what I felt when I saw the trailer for SMW and the SNES. Holy shit! That was fucking hype! Then when I first saw Mario 64, it was like motherfucking Dorothy stepping out of the world of black-and-white into the world of color! PS2 was impressive as hell with how realistic Madden looked at the time, but the level of hype has been increasingly decreasing over the last few console generations.

Now we have XBox One. Awesome. I get to watch TV by talking to it and moving my arms around. Whoopty-fucking-doo. Yeah, I guess the games look better, but the hype I had from the earlier console upgrades is no where near that level now. Maybe I’m just getting older, but it seems that there’s not really anything very inovative as far as gaming goes. For all the shit Nintendo gets, at least they are trying.

Wow, no shit. It’s called getting older.

It is normal to be passionate about hobbies, especially ones as broad and encompassing as an entire entertainment/ artistic medium.

Yeah, getting older has a lot to do with it I suppose. But it also seems like the giant leaps that the video game industry made in the 1990’s aren’t as extreme these days either.

The sad thing is that we are only 20 percent. They really dont give a fuck about us, we may not like what the console brings and what it means for the future but if you check out the sites that the “casual market” probably stop by and the news they watch, those outlets were actually praising the new system. So it seems like mission accomplished for them right now.

I guess the next step would be the games they show at E3 and then finally when the system releases and people will then vote with their wallets.

Personally I dont really like this digital only method of distribution that the industry is trying to force on everyone. It really just makes you wonder about what you really own, I mean you pay so much money for something that seems like a rental with some massive restrictions. That really pertains to both the system and the games.

Don’t be that guy dude.

I’m really enamored by the fact that this kid can’t say “shit” without a One, but can casually say fuck. Must be some subconscious stab at the new console.

Anyway… it seems you guys missed that the fee isn’t absolutely necessary for all situations (for instance, bringing your game to a friend’s house) as the game will be tied to your account. You’d just need to sign in for those situations. However, it certainly is a stupid practice and I’m sure there will be a significant effort to mitigate the negative response to it prior to the launch if Microsoft actually wants to move units. There’s too much time between now and November for potential buyers to catch wind of all these reasons not to throw their money at the system just because it’s the new XBOX.

I will not blame the company before the buyers. If you buy consoles, you reward the game industry in both 1) their BS about having a console and not be able to play everywhere and 2) their boycott on PCs, which have been fine for gaming since the 486 days in terms of hardware.

i’m at work, and i use my work’s email.
so i censored it like so and dont’ use the word fuck.
just a habit ya know.

not a kid man.
i’m a electrical engineer dawg, cut me some slack.

lmao i was nerd raging because of xbox one.
but now i laugh because its so serious i censored my swears and its a big deal.

you get that “reading up on shit” outta here. the fuck is wrong with you…

also why the fuck are you using your work email to post on a forum…tsk tsk tsk

sadly alot of the “sources” are just rumor milling it.

Well Kotaku IS a refutable news source you guys.

Yea you just have to put your account, with all your personal billing information and access to your credit cards on someone else machine! No big deal guys!

/groan @ all the “this gaming generation sucks” talk again I’m seeing all over the damn web (and in this thread, unfortunately).

Newsflash: every generation had shitty games and gamers. Yes, even the NES/SNES had metric tons of crap. AVGN can keep making episodes for a reason. This gen, like every other, has great games vastly outnumbered by garbage. Like every gen. Stop the hipster doofus Egoraptor talk of how awesome yesteryear was as if somehow the art of gamemaking was “lost.” Seriously, this shit comes up all the time, and has since the days of the SNES when people lamented “how much better it was before.”

All that noise aside, fuck the Xbone. I can’t even judge it by the quality of its titles, because we’ve seen a CoD (no, it didn’t ruin gaming, even if I don’t care for the series) and pre-rendered teasers for like two other games. But I can judge it by the fact I’m taking Injustice, Persona 4 Arena, and a memory stick with Skullgirls to a friends’ tonight and will be able to play on his systems without him needing to pay a fee.

I’m totally okay with consoles having non-gaming perks for convenience (I love Netflix). I’m not okay with that being the focus of a new system reveal. I’m also not okay with the fascist-like control Microsoft is trying to assert over my entertainment room.

Shameless plug: I co-host a podcast and the latest ep is mostly about this shitty thing Microsoft calls a next gen console. The episode: http://tfgtg.blogspot.ca/2013/05/e032-xrd-box-thats-one-guilty-hallway.html

Re: Backwards compatibility: of the X1’s many, many sins, that is the least sinful I think. Though I’ll admit I’d likely shell out for a more expensive model that was backwards compatible.

you know all you guys most pissed off about this will still buy them day 1 :coffee:

Um… no. You can currently sign on to other people’s 360s with your own account without said information. But okay.

Edit: And honestly, if you can’t trust putting a password protected gamertag on your friend’s XBOX, you may need to find new friends.

My (fat) PS3 has SoTN, FFV7/8 and Godhand on it. shrug

I understand leaving BC behind for this gen, but perhaps with PC like tech, it’ll be easier to implement in the future? I dunno, I’m just gonna keep my PS3 so it doesn’t bother me.

Here’s a thought, will Xbox Marketplace and PSN be doing away with their archival games in the future? I would hate to not be able to get certain games I haven’t picked up…thus the problem with digital distribution is revealed…sigh modern gaming.

This thread and board in general is surprisingly calm (mostly) about the crazy-ass news with the X-bONE.

From my perspective, if they really want to win US (the actual gamer crowd) over, Micro$oft MUST have some kind of golden shiny piggy the’re keeping for E3 or something.
But I highly doubt it (and once all of this about what the console does and doesn’t do is solid, then I doubt people will give two or three damns).

As I said, everyone talking about it in this thread are nice and calm and collected…
compared to this place:

Fucking warzone.

Well maybe I’m misreading,. I dunno. infos flying like crazy at the moment.

And no I don’t trust anyone not to pull some troll as shit with my stuff if possible. Yes even my friends cuz dudes be slippery as fuck these days.
