That’s completely different. With digital media there’s no expectation of ownership. People don’t see a physical copy as a vessel to deliver digital content even though that’s what Microsoft would love for people to view it as. If it were up to me, and game prices stay the same, I’d make the physical games $60 and it’d be necessary to have the disk, and downloads would be $55. This way the people who still want to play the physical media game could do so, but you’d get a huge amount of people to buy into the digital media market. By the time the next generation rolls around you’ll have weened a lot of people from physical media, and used games, but hey what do I know?
My PS1 library is pretty extensive and I’ve never actually owned a PS1, being able to play RE1/3 and a number of other titles was a pretty big reason as to why I bought a PS2.
Backwards Compatibility is there for the convenience. Maybe you wont be using it alot, but its great to have when you need to use it, say when your PS3 or XB360 finally dies.
The first few PS3 models were fully backwards compatible but they had a high failure rate due to overheating and cost too much to develop. PS3’s now are compatible with PS1 games. The PS4’s excuse for not having it is their using different architecture which should be easier for delvelopers to code. Assuming Xbox one has architecture similar to the 360, then their’s no excuse to expand their library with 360’s library.
No bc isn’t as bad as having to have an internet connection atleast once every 24 hours our an one time only code that locks a game to a certain console. And if Kinect is mandatory to operate the system there’s more problems
Even the PS3s that couldn’t play PS2 games could play PS1 games, the 360 plays Xbox games and the Gameboys and DS’s each kept it during the first revision of each generation of them too.
Still buying origional DS games for my 3DS and PS1 games for my PS3 here.
I was going to mention the portables too, but figured the point was made with just home consoles. Forgot about the early PS3s!
Honestly, I’m not too concerned about the issue- what pisses me off is that you have to completely install XBO games to the HDD, and can’t play them on friend’s consoles without signing in and blah blah blah. It’s going to make casual gatherings a pain in the ass, or they’ll exclude Xbox set ups I guess.
i’m 27 years old and i think i’m done. this new gen really killed it.
this is absolutely getting fucking stupid.
this sh1t is a big ass scam. and i know they’ll get away from this sh1t cause all these fucking hipster nerds will give them all the money. i for one, do not support and WILL not support this fcuking bullsh1t with a single dollar.
this is unreal, i remember when i was a kid, i would rent a game from video rental store for $5 for the weekend and finish it.
i’m older now, and i have more responsibilities and more important sh1t to put my money at.
this is the end.
i’m so disappointed with the gaming industry its disgusting and a total scam.
you buy all these new hardware, console, controllers, etc.
then you buy a used game at a decent price,
then you pay for re-used registration.
then you pay for xbox live.
dependin on the game, then you gotta buy DLC for characters/maps (EA, capcom, etc)
on top of that, you need internet or you can’t do fuck all with the new gen console.
like god damn, i’m already payin mortage and my internet bill.
wtf is with all these extra expenses just to play a fuckin game.
new gen is not cool man.
totally not cool.
i think its absolutely time to give the new gen the middle finger and put my time/money elsewhere.
expensive as fuck games for better graphics, not worth it.
i played all types of games already. don’t give a sh1t anymore.
This thread is full of pain. People will vote with their wallets if M$ roll out this fabled new system. I hope they do stick with it and that Sony will do right by their own customers. We will teach a tough lesson on that day. Top dogs can easily fall off with one bad release, we’ve seen that with Nintendo, Sony, Sega, too many others.
