Microsoft treats it like one. It’s at Microsoft’s press conferences where we usually get our first look at the latest game. They get first dibs on DLC and it’s the most popular console to play the game on. For dude bros and children, their 360 is a CoD machine.
Dude bros do love XBox…somehow I can’t help but shake the idea that the X in the name is somehow sub consciously tied to the success as a “CoD machine”…
I appreciate people who has serious taste when it comes to things of beauty (or lets just say Shenmue fans).
While you are at it you should try to get your hand on either one of these new statues aswell !
Well shit… You’re right. I play really only CoD on it and the occasional XBLA game. To be fair the 360 is perfectly designed for shooter and fits CoD like a glove. By the same token PS controller is ideal for fighting games and Battlefield series favors PS systems moreso than M$.
My PS3 sill gathers dust as i only popped in uncharted for like a day and a dew others games each for a few hours… I don’t play it out of laziness to get out of my computer chair and desk to be on the couch. Xbox is hooked up to my 2nd monitor hence why its played more.
I’m a collector. I typically try to get as many consoles as I can. More consoles = more games = more fun. I have eight atm.
I normally try to stay out of console wars because they’re bullshit in 99.9% of circumstances. The Xbox One is that 0.1%.
I won’t be buying this if the current policies remain true, and I’ll be keeping my eye on Nintendo and Sony in case they try and pull this garbage as well.
lol how does one have 50+ posts in 2 days and tons of flags? Why sign up on a fighting game forum to talk about E3 anyway. It is like you don’t even care about FGs.
Anyway, I’ll probably be getting a PS4 when the price drops or if it is confirmed that there are no major issues like Xbox 360’s 3RoD or PS3’s YLOD (both of these happened to me before). Also the DRM thing really bothers me. I learned how troubling DRM really can be, so I’d rather not deal with it the way the new Xbox is trying to do DRM. Same goes for Sony and any publishers trying to do stuff similar to that (obviously EA, but I don’t play EA games anymore anyway). Halo and Gears are great and all, but I’ve found myself enjoying Kingdom Hearts, Uncharted, and Metal Gear more. I’m actually crossing my fingers they actually make KH3.
Oh shit, completely forgot about that! I had only taken into consideration the main territories. Apparently in the US 85% of the population has a fixed internet line, that’s why I don’t think it’s such a huge deal like people are making it out to be.
Now that we don’t have to try and read between the lines I’m with this guy
There’s still a few things that need clearing up, but like Angry Joe says, every feature comes with a restriction, smh.
MS said in their press release that they won’t be making any money from used game sells, so my theory that EA and Activision are behind this might turn out to be true.
“Innovation” my ass. How does making a console with built-in DRM making the games any better? What can the XB1 do with the DRM that it couldn’t do just fine without it?
First it was all about “piracy is killing the industry”, then it became “used games are killing the industry”, and you can already see a lot of hints of “not buying 20$ worth of DLC along with your 60$ game is killing the industry!”
Clearly someone up there has no fucking idea what the problem is and is just shooting at all possible directions, and who takes all the bullets? Always the paying customer.
I live 3 hours away from New York City and the only internet option for my road was dial up until 3 years ago. Even now it still goes out for days on end and flat out stops working during stormy weather.
US internet infrastructure is garbage regardless of where you live, it just happens to get worse the more rural and center of the country you go.
This shouldn’t even be an issue because there is no reason the console should turn into a brick because I don’t check in on Microsoft’s schedule. Unless it’s a game solely based around online multiplayer there is no justification for it to not function when I don’t have access to the internet.
I’m expecting untold amounts of Youtube videos of Microsoft officials being harassed by angry consumers and press by Tuesday. Its the hole that just keeps on growing, aided lovely by the fact that they have designed features to support this kind of evolution - something I doubt Sony have done given their backhanded comments about Microsoft and DRM. They might have restrictions but I bet they haven’t designed the entire freaking console around them.
E3 is going to be hype this year, looking very forward to Sony’s press conference. I’ve heard they have a good few bombs to drop (in a good sense)
And you know, I was an old Xbox customer. Big fan of the original Xbox, so-so fan of the 360. Paying for online play was a tough pill to swallow but I did it for a good few years. Must have spent over £200 on the Xbox Live alone. Now you’ll have to pay for Xbox Live and be punished for playing offline. To me that is something I can’t condone. I know I don’t NEED Xbox Live, but that is a backwards way to treat a consumer, somebody you are supposed to be SELLING the console to. They must think adequate units of this box will sell themselves, they wont to me.
At this point somebody couldn’t pay me to have one of these devices in my house. I’m serious with that, I wouldn’t take £200 to set an Xbone up by my TV. I wonder what Microsoft would make of that. I wonder what they make of any of this. Pompous eejits.
That’s what is confusing me more than anything. I keep thinking they cant be that stupid? Was Phil Harrison planted in to Microsoft, is that how deep this thing runs! He did lobby to have Cerny lead the project for PS4 after all. Microsoft are really getting bashed by news and media outlets alike, and I mean BASHED.
Favorite quote so far from an article on Polygon - “After a month of vague corporate comments from Microsoft executives, we now know the Xbox One’s game licensing policy was written from the ground up for companies. It’s aggressively anti-consumer and anti-middle class, and it outright ignores underprivileged gamers. It’s gross, despicable, greedy, pathetic, cowardly and out of touch with a growing global resentment for corporations.”
My instinct keeps telling me that they ARE smart enough and I am missing a point somewhere. See I don’t think the core gamers are stupid enough to flock to the Xbox One on these terms. Word of mouth also counts for a lot, especially since Microsoft are finding themselves being bashed left, right and center at the moment. My friends know about this, their friends know about this, people reading Forbes, BBC, Guardian, Tech Insider and countless other websites know about this.
Annoyed Gamer made a video over on Gametrailers about the top 5 things he doesn’t want to see at E3. Through a list of things you’d expect to see like ‘gimmicks’ the number one spot was for all to not be forgiven should Microsoft blow us away with games. He doesn’t want people buying the bone, he wants people to shun it. I think that is pretty awesome and I know its inline with what people here (and most other places bar xbox.com) want.
This whole play by Microsoft is TOO FUCKING MUCH. I don’t see marketing saving them unless they change the rules. If there is something better out there people will buy that instead. That’s why all of us don’t own a Zune, a Windows phone or Windows 8. I hope that what the Annoyed Gamer hopes for comes to pass. Games shouldn’t be enough to save Microsoft at E3.
Only way I see Microsoft changing anything about the DRM is if the xbox one’s sales are really low an the PS4 sales are really high, right now I’m leaning toward the PS4 but I’m not 100% sure since they really haven’t talked about the whole DRM thing yet, still I think some people will forget all about the whole drm thing once mircosoft shows off the games they want (Rumor KI3) -_-
I think they’re trying to do away with discs. They’re basically forcing you to turn your physical media into digital, rendering the disc useless…at least at launch. Eventually they will allow you to trade or sell your game but only one time. Then you have to make the decision, do I want to loan this game to my friend or sell it to him? Once you do, that’s that, the game is now your friends forever. Unless he pays a retailer a fee.
This makes trading, selling, or loaning games undesirable. Exactly what the publishers want.
Its like a weak ass HTPC with extreme drm measures.
Not even that, Mega_buster. Millions of xbox cod/bf3 dudebros and little timmys will be buying it just for that. These people may be informed, have been told all the horrible stuff about DRM and such…But dude, bro, you can share with up to ten people!
edit - I would like to know what happens if you buy the disc games, install them to the xb1, then your son/daughter/wife/brother/whoever decides they’ll format the hdd? Will you just be able to put the disc in again and reinstall it? Will you be able to download the game (no fee) from xbl if something like this happens? What if you’re shit gets corrupted or the power goes out during an install?
every answer will just bring more questions…I dislike the xb1.
