voting with your wallet doesn’t work when there are MULTIPLE reasons for not buying it. Discussing those reasons, can affect change. Yet again, I point out things such as SOPA, where mass discussion and rage made them drop the bill.
Now you’re just arguing for the sake of arguing. It’s obvious in this case that Microsoft doesn’t give a shit about their customers so complaining to them won’t do anything.
There’s difference with shit like SOPA and capitalist enterprises. Mass discussion and rage works for shit like for SOPA. But for capitalist enterprises that are only focused on the bottom line and show contempt for their customers? That shit won’t work
Yeah, I never said you couldn’t discuss those reasons but showing apathy or not buying into someone’s bullshit [especially not paying for it] makes you a silent pussy? Get outta here with that.
Voting with your wallet doesn’t work when you’re dealing with a product aimed at the masses. You think the average parent looking to buy a console for their kids will vote with their wallet? No, they will buy a console with little or no knowledge. The console could still potentially sell well, based on ignorant morons snatching it up.
The only way to fix that, is to DISCUSS IT WITH THE MASSES. Any argument against this means you have no idea how the economy works, how the world works, or how to interact with other people in the world. Voting with your wallet is a fucking cliche that people with no real argument throw out there, because they’re stupid and can only spew meme’s and cliches like the tool they are.
SoVi3t, you don’t get to complain about this shit. You bought Sim City full price at launch knowing damn well all the shit EA was pulling. You can’t argue about a moral high ground when you are a contributing factor to the majority of the fucked up shit publishers are shoving into games.
A lot of the people complaining in this topic are exactly the ones that are a part of the problem.
Don’t buy a three-legged horse and then complain about his inability to win a race.
I bought Sim City because the ONLY issue was server related. I waited a week later, then bought it. Still a ton of issues with the game, and I do regret buying it occasionally. Know what would have fixed that? If I had just pirated it like most other games I test. And more importantly, unlike this console, I knew Sim City would eventually get fixed to meet the demands of the public.
The very demands that were brought to the attention by people giving the dev’s their opinion, rather than staying silent and voting with their wallet like the useless pussies they think that’s a valid option in today’s society.
If enough hell is raised over three legged horses being sold, perhaps the sellers will stop selling them.
Taco Bell and McDonalds both increased the quality of their menu based on customer complaints. These are companies that were making HUGE profits, so voting with their wallet obviously wasn’t helping.
And who exactly would this console appeal to aside from the rich, priveledged and demented?
I haven’t seen the games for it so I can’t speak about that. Microsoft was obviously going for the whole entertainment hub thing which might backfire. All they’re really advertising is a smart TV and people who already have a Smart TV will no see value in it. It’s funny that the Xbox One sees itself as being a TV, when you need a TV for it to work
All the Xbox One presentation did was show Microsoft being desperate. They are afraid of the mobile gaming market and such
All the presentation did was show they want to be the definitive device in the living room. With massive costs and downsides. I can understand that, but that isn’t what I look for in a console. They took every possible thing I wanted in a console, and got rid of it or fucked it up. Hell, the only gaming they discussed was the obvious CoD is coming stupidity. As if we didn’t know that already.
So far this console appeals to nobody but fanboys.
AKA a Smart Tv. As I have said, if you already own a Smart TV, there’s no point in buying it. The stuff the Xbox One [retarded name. I know they mean a all in one device, but still it’s a dumb name] advertised is something that your computer, smart phone, and tablet can already do.
I would say a more appropriate term instead of “fanboy” would be “corporate tool”.
I’ve got to sort of second this. We are the people who stay up on this, the more ‘educated’ sect of the masses if you will. Something this large will move units by sheer power - to the major masses. The masses need to be informed of what they are getting and developers need to know what groups they are going to be missing. Voting with our wallets, won’t actually amount to a dent in the machine.
And lets be honest, its not the silent majority, its the loudest minority.
If you’re buying a product that pisses you off and you still bitch about it, you’re still technically adding to the problem. That sounds masochistic
Personally, I wasn’t interested in the Xbox One before the announcement and I am even less interested even after the announcement, so I won’t buy it. My question is, if you know this console will piss you off, why are you going to go the extra mile to buy it to piss yourself even more unless you’re a masochist? I am not telling you what to do with your money and how you should spend it by any chance
I’m trying to educate everyone I know about it. All my coworkers were talking about which console they’ll get and their jaws hit the fucking floor after I told em about all the stupid stuff that Xbone is pulling. Took 10 sales away from M$ right there
Some of the friends of mine who eat and breathe Xbox fucking hate what Microsoft is doing with this one. Even considering making the jump to PC.
Someone can get a smart TV but the goods tend to be $1500 or over. Something like a console is a cost effective way to get everything a smart tv offers. Sure, you can get them in smart phones and tablets but it doesn’t offer the same experience as chilling on your couch and watching it on a big screen.
My sig on slashdot has been “defender of microsoft” for over a decade now. Might have to change that, I suppose. I was a HUGE fan of the first Xbox, and the 360 (at first…RRoD and shitty XBL really killed it for me this gen).
I have my PC plugged into a big screen HDTV. I dont need a console to help me watch TV or what have you. Nothing about it appeals to me. I also don’t like the idea of a console requiring talking to work. That will be great at 3am when my roommates are asleep and I am shouting XBOX TV MODE repeatedly.
I didn’t say I was getting it. My point was that speaking with your wallet doesn’t work in a situation like this. This isn’t some small business with a single store covering a niche market. This is M$. This is video games. This is one of only 3 next gen offerings in a still ‘recovering’ economy. This is the day and age of social media ‘killing’ people (RIP Brandon Knight) and spreading the word to the point that EVERYONE knows. So people being vocal about the issues will actually amount to MORE significance than a small pocket of educated people who play fighting games saying ‘nope I’ll pass’. M$ isn’t going to change anything to adapt to our lost sales. Even multiplying out our numbers to say 10k, that barely moves the bottom line and will get swallowed up by other people/new markets.
So I’m with you about not just ‘conforming’, but this situation is a bit more ‘deeper’ than just withholding my money. Hell reports show that Windows 8 is doing almost as good as Windows 7 was (I don’t believe it, but whatever), yet in Windows 8.1 - they are adding the START button back because of the vocal people, most of which actually already OWN Windows 8. M$ is EXPECTING a backlash with it’s comments. They are waiting till E3 to show off their games and then see what the communities say. At that point, I have a feeling they’ll back off as much as they feel they need to - hence why they haven’t ‘outright’ answered our questions about the obvious.
-:bluu:
When you still haven’t answered the question on whether I can let a friend borrow a game without penalty or if DRM is used or if its always online, it makes me worried on whether they give a shit.
We haven’t seen the PS4 console yet. Perhaps them “killing” it is killing the concept of there actually being separate consoles? Wouldn’t it be bizarre if they announced some sort of a merger?
