X-23 UMVC3 Changes

I’m trying to switch over to Stick from Pad, just for the challenge and fun of it (something new and see what all the hypes about lol)
But mashing is EAAAASYYYY with a pad. Seriously, Luigi in melee, mash 14 times in the first 30ish frames or whatever of his Cyclone npnp

Chuns leg assist work for the relaunches? Either way, she doesn’t need them.

I used X-23/Hsien-Ko/Ironman
Both great pin-downs.
Even if the DHC glitch doesn’t glitch, you can still do the motion and get the armor the switch back with frame advantage. So fun. :slight_smile:

Wesker Jaguar Kick assist should work for relaunches now. It got buffed huge - full spinning knockdown on hit, and iirc less startup, more hits, and a better hitbox too. facepalm you thought you saw a lot of Wesker in vanilla? prepare yourself for Ultimate… he lost his ability to hit confirm from full screen, and now is a more straight up brawler. still the best grappler in the game, except now he can do 600k+ off a grab for no meter. lvl3 no glasses Wesker is SICK and he still has more than enough time to kill an entire team before xf runs out.

since Rage Trigger does more damage than Weapon X now, the preferred Wesker assist could be Jaguar Kick instead of OTG. you can use it for left/right mixups, and combo extension.

other assists to look into would be Spencer grapples & wallbounce, since Spencer is now probably one of the best anchors in the game bar none. he’s probably one of the best characters in the game now, period… before you couldn’t use armour piercer with X-23’s OTG, since the OTG is two hits. one hit would OTG, armour piercer would land, then the 2nd hit of the OTG would hit and prevent the wallbounce. both grapples were too fast to use with the OTG. maybe that changed.

don’t worry about mashing. Its not like some crazy “get 60 inputs in 60 frames!” to get max damage. its really easy to mash to max.

I see people hyping lvl3 no glasses Wesker…but I don’t see how he can regularly exist in a tournament situation since if Wesker is in the back he is most likely not going to have his glasses off unless the opponent does some random tricky shit like place him first, make him get hit without dying and then throw him back as anchor (considering his glasses still stay off). I could see level 1 or 2 XF glasses off Wesker being realistic in tournaments but not XF3. Plus Wesker in the back means he’ll have to fight someone else in XF that will easily kill him in one combo also.

I do like the idea that they are buffing some assists though. There weren’t enough strong assists in vanilla. It was just a lot of ok to bad ones and the few scary ones.

Wesker can get his glasses off by doing maximum wesker as well. He doesn’t have to get damaged to get rid of his glasses. The only problem is if you do maximum wesker and tag him out he will put it back on as he reenters the screen.

Just random maximum wesker and air-xfactor into safety.

Ah…that makes more sense then. He can just combo into maximum wesker and then he’s good to go. Sounds good but gun infinite +longer more damaging XF overall was scarier than powered XF3 Wesker with shorter XF and no gunfinite. At that point I would prefer to have him 2nd so you can take advantage of the glasses buff without being in a situation where he’s with no assist and has to burn XF.

Wesker with assist + XF2 = scarier than XF3 Wesker at this point. The boosts you’ll get in XF2 are strong enough and with assists will give you just frame left/rights instead of praying for the hurp durp, less unsafe but still unsafe ports and pray dash in buttons or command grab.

they nerfed basically every single assist in the game by taking away most special states (beams, akuma tatsu don’t soft knockdown anymore, Haggar went from hard -> soft knockdown, the rare assist that had full spin state like MODOK bomb doesn’t have spin anymore) which is why I’m shocked they gave Wesker a real spinning knockdown on his assist and then gave stagger/soft knockdown to Strider homing dive kick…

I think there is actually less strong assists in Ultimate than there were in vanilla. we’ll just have to see I guess

and you are selling XF3 Wesker short. it is easy peasy to get his glasses off, and he is on some serious cracked out speed in XF3. we are talking purple + red Logan levels of speed freakness. I didn’t have enough time to mess around with him but I’m pretty sure lvl3 Wesker can combo from his own fuzzy guard j.S overhead because he’s so fast, on top of his other buff ass normals, and gun THC to a mashed out maximum wesker for 500k+ damage is nothing to sneeze at either. teleports canceled off normals are free, and off gun are frame advantage. iirc xf3 + no glasses gun will still combo into itself at least once

and then there’s the one frame command grab, his totally inconsequential air throw nerf (it is still a huge threat). he’s still the best grappler in the game

Strider’s vajra assist is actually stagger ground hit, hard knockdown air hit. Definitely gonna be one of the scariest assists in the game. You can dash past it because it only tracks before it releases but if you force them to block or get hit by something first it’s a free mix up.

Nerfing most of the soft knockdown assists was the biggest issue though. Like Felicia’s rolling slide assist no longer soft knockdown really hurts my brother’s team. The fact that he had assists that worked with similar effectiveness as tatsu for Zero was solid but now he might have to change things up.

Most of the new characters luckily look like they have strong assists in some fashion. With my old team plasma beam and jam session will easily still be two of the game’s best assists so I have no problem running those still. Plus they come with 2 characters that will be more or less top tier in Ultimate.

I was thinking about using something like X-23/Taskmaster/Hawkeye or X-23/Vergil/Hawkeye, but I don’t know about the assists. I saw some pretty cool stuff using Hawkeye’s Violent Fizz assist, and Rapid Slash is probably the default for Vergil.

The CS to talon buff is so big, it makes her so much more mobile its insane.

I dont think youll be able to anti air CS into a full combo tho.

I dunno about a full combo, but combo enough for it to be worth it.

Anti air CS to L talon i dont think works.

However, Anti air CS to talon M to air S to ground series MIGHT work.

cr. H + Black Hole assist xx CS already gives you a combo in Vanilla. I’m pretty sure AA CS + Dark hole xx L Talon will work as well.

Sorry if this has been covered but there was some chat about the ankle slice assist being faster, has anyone noticed that? One way to check is whether you can otg with it after Ryu or Chun Li’s air throw at normal jump height.

That’s actually really good anchor tech, as long as people don’t figure out you can airthrow M-feint.

Maybe cr.H xx m-feint XFC j.L would avoid getting thrown?

I was playing some games last night and I noticed that X-23’s c.L (that I don’t even use that often unless I’m right next to someone) wasn’t really having the same feel or priority it used to. My brother noticed this also but I thought it was just some coincidence.

Then I looked at the frame guide and apparently c.L was nerfed a frame up to 5 frame start up. Not sure why they did this. I doubt it was a typo since I definitely remember her c.L feeling different. Her c.L is really short ranged any ways and not very useful outside of point blank range so it doesn’t matter. Just more emphasis on c.M, s.M or s.H MFC.

Has anyone been able to get X-23 mission 10 to work? I have no clue how you are supposed to get that j.L -> air L.Crescent Scythe to work. I am assuming you have to rejump j.l really quickly but I haven’t gotten it to hit once. Either way this mission 10 takes impracticality to a whole new level…

Good stuff, I figured this would work (doesn’t it work with L MF as well?), but I still couldn’t test it out until Friday, when the game comes out here in Europe.

There’s another piece of technology that I know it “works”, but I still don’t know if it can be deadly or not in Ultimate. I’ll check it out later once I get my hands on the game.

I like the sound of air XF M feint because that will give it a use without an assist outside of corners.
