I won’t argue with you either that is pointless. I will say this and it refers to any game one plays not just Tekken (I am not saying you are wrong either so don’t think that). To master a game it will take a considerable amount of talent (playing every character like a professional regardless of what game you play on any level of difficulty). Some games require more talent to get started doing basic moves and techniques needed to play decent matches against decent people. Mastery of Tekken takes a considerable amount of talent and skill as you said (way more than the “Some” I said earlier) but I meant the skill needed getting started not to master it completely. (Mastering Tekken compared to Mastering VF requires about the same amount of skill, these people are likely to rank high in tournaments either way, you make a great point mastering a game like Tekken does require more than “some” skill or talent
For the record, I play Marvel and 3S but I’m not very good either, at all.
And Knapstar, stop posting, find comp in VF.
V.R. Fighter vs Taken 2 was an original HK bootleg Genesis game that was rare, it was a 2D game that combined Tekken and Virtua Fighter characters…and yes they spelled it that way.
not really my place to say anything in this thread, but don’t you know Ninja Gaiden started in the 80’s?
I bought DOA just to see what all the noise was about, in the end its my girlfriend that plays it alot. even tough I actually tried getting good by practicing all my characters juggles and counters my GF still kicks my ass by button mashing the funny part was when she asked me “how do you block?” (this after defeating me like 7 times).
oh and the granby Im gonna buy vf 5 when it comes out on 360 I hope to see you online
the new games are still clearly influenced by DMC
Exactly, but that doesn’t stop people from complaining now does it? I think people just have too much time on their hands.
i always thought tekken 5 and virtua fighter 4 played like doa1 and he kinda left them in the dust since doa2.
tekken and virtua fighter always seemed Really choppy to me especialy vf. my turn your turn kinda thing. though i havent played too much of either, i bought tekken 5 with the arcade stick
only thing is doa is more 2d in combat as most characters don’t have an effective side step.
Hm, I can’t agree on this. “My turn, your turn” happens in all of the 3d games you mentioned imo. I play all of them, playing vf the least but that will change. AFAIK, DOA there is no sidestep, it’s sidewalk which is not used for the same purposes. DOA has it’s own unique stuff, but feels like a mix of tekken and virtual fighter.
But its trash
Mix of Tekken and Virtua Fighter? Hell naw, it’s more like Tekken is a mix of DOA and Virtua Fighter. It takes the flash of DOA and adds the technicality of Virtua Fighter in one.
I say just play DOA4 to have a good time with it and not much more. Although… if you can’t beat button mashing scrubs I will tell you after playing DOA semi seriously for years that you suck.
People talk crap about 3S’s randomness all the time but DOA is arguably even worse in the random department. Especially the newest DOA4 which sounds like the majority of the game is nothing more than scare tactics and mind games. Which is fine by me cuz that’s how I like to play any ways. Just too lazy to be overly technical in most of the games I play. If I play a character that I know execution wise is over my head…I just play someone else. Not bothered with overloading myself especially if it’s a game that I don’t play that seriously to begin with.
I didn’t think it’d be necessary, but i’ll explain why I said it was like a mix. DOA has crazy juggles like Tekken does. DOA has the option of jumping on your opponent after they have fallen, much like Virtua Fighter. DOA came after both games, so… I’m not sure what you mean about Tekken taking stuff from DOA like flashiness.
He basically means that every 3d fighting game shares some kind of relationship or similarity with another. It just comes down to the fact that Tekken/DOA/VF all borrow shit from each other and that’s the reason DOA feels like this and that and the other. Bottom line…it really doesn’t matter.
^^Agreed and for the record SC3 is my favorite 3d fighter it’s just a great game in every aspect and hella fun.
Although fighting games basically borrow from each other. DOA and VF represent two ends of the spectrum, while Tekken nicely blends both styles together. Which game came before which isn’t the point.
This ranks among some of your worst posts.
I lol’ed pretty hard at this.
Well if he likes SC3 then let him have at it. Soul Calibur just needs to get its act together. It’s a great series otherwise.
Yeah…the reason Tekken does well is because it does a good job of attracting both the hardcore and casual audience. Hardcores like it because of the skill needed to become serious at it and casuals like it because the game is stylish, has a lot of game modes and there are characters that tend to do flashy things when you mash buttons. IMO VF is definitely catching up with the customization of the characters and the characters don’t look as generic as they used to (especially once you outfit them). Yet…VF works better in Japan because it is respected as a culture in Japan. In the US it’s just another technical fighting game that is graphically impressive. Yet…it doesn’t necessarily ever get too flashy in actual gameplay. No sparks flying, no monsters, laser beams etc. Tekken is flashier and easier to get into so it’s more interesting to the US audiences. DOA definitely does a great job capturing the casual audience (which is all it really needs to do) but hardcores obviously have a hard time even playing the game.
This is probably why Tekken has the largest 3D fighting game scene. Even though I love VF for what it is, I’m still not a fan of it’s characters. Sure the whole customization thing brings some life to the characters, but the interest goes more into the outfits instead of the characters themselves.
DOA4 gets alot of hate but the truth is to excel at at a high level it takes alot of skill and dedication just like other top notch fighters do. And you can easily beat a masher 1000-0 if you understand the game and play it at a competitive level. And top players (like Perfect Legend, Black Mamba, and Offbeat Ninja) constantly place top 3 in every tournament they attend.
That said most top DOA players agree that DOA 3.1/3.2 is far superior to DOA4. But most people (including myself) don’t have access to it since you need a modded/import xbox1 to play it.
I really hope you’re referring to the arcade version.
My personal favorites where “Sagat sucks in HF” and “wake up dragon punches are the hardest thing to do in the game” but on topic…
