Well I grew up on the VF characters since I got a Saturn before I got a PS so their cheesy personalities and somewhat stereotypical looks I just got used to. Like…if the characters stopped being cheesy the game probably wouldn’t feel right to me at first. It’s just what makes VF what it is. Wolf definitely looks a lot more hardcore than he did in older games. Like I wouldn’t wanna see him in a dark alley at all. He looks monstrous in VF5. I also like how height proportionate the characters are in VF5. El Blaze is a short Mexican so he is clearly smaller than a majority of the cast. He differs from the norm where only teenagers or old men can be short. The characters that are shorter than 5’5 actually look that short in the game. The newer set of characters (Goh, Brad etc.) seem to be aiming towards a more stylish appearance. Outside of Brad’s terribly cheesy personality I think he’s a really cool character design. Same with Goh…he just looks really cool.
I guess the cheesiness is just part of VF’s charm.
I never really thought much of DOA4 nor cared. But I can remember the moment I decided it was garbage.
I was at a local tourney for TekkenDR, SC3 and DOA4. I was with the Tekken crew and I looked over to watch some of the DOA4 matches.
I don’t know dick about the game but the match they were having looked interesting, it was getting close and some serious tense moments. When out of nowhere a cheetah or some shit knocked one guy out.
Garbage.
Awesome!
LOL! classic DOA
The cheetah is pretty easy to see coming. I’m also pretty sure you can turn it off. Before casting a game off spend more than 5 seconds forming an opinion, people might respect you.
Can someone please give this guy some rep?
Soul Calibur 3 was HORRIBLY broken in so many ways. (Create a Character?)
I agree with DevilJin though. As soon as SC gets its act together (Flashback to SC days… with a little SC2 style.) it will head back to the top of everyone’s “Best 3d fighters” list.
Oh, and as of right now, I have low low hopes for SC4. Star Wars characters and women with breasts large enough to be moons? Count me out. We’ll see…
DOA4 WAS the premier fighting game for 360. I’ll justify by saying as such. Mr. Itagaki made his statement. Half of his statement was correct. “DOA4 is the premier fighting game.” Bingo! Why? Because it was the ONLY fighting game available at the premier of the 360.
The second half though, is horribly wrong. There is NO way that DOA4 is still the best fighter out there. Sorry Tomonobu, stop developing Ninja Gaiden 2 (but not for long, I want it.) and go outside. Walk to your local arcade and see what fighters are being played in Japan. DOA4? No. Tekken 5, VF5, and Guilty Gear:AC are getting their dues right now. Not DOA4. It’s old, and we’ve found out how it’s broken. (Granted the article is rather old.)
Of course, Tomonobu seems not only overly proud of himself, but he also seems like he’s compensating for something. (Oatmeal cookies anyone? )
Maybe DOA5 will be made of win.
Now my rant is done. I’m gonna go get some food… If only I could pull myself away from DOA4… wait, yes, yes I can.
When it comes to the characters in VF, I look at it more in fighting styles. I admit, the generic looks did turn me off for a bit but when I realized how much emphasis the game put on the character’s fighting styles (VF4’s website had much larger descriptions for each character’s fighting style rather than their storyline), I viewed the game in such a way that rather than choosing a character, you’re choosing a fighting style and you just dress them up in the way you want them to look. Plus I’ve always dreamed of a fighting game where there was no storyline and the character select screen was instead a fighting style select screen and you just dressed up the character in your own way. VF I feel is the closest to that.
As far as the horrible win quotes go, most of the people I know just laugh at them. It’s not like Tekken 5 isn’t guilty of cheesiness either. Just in a different way.
DOA4 is broken? How so?
What is Ein’s fastest move? I have a hard time getting back on the offensive sometimes. Usually I poke back with either a :df: :p: or just a neutral :p:.
What are his high-priority moves?
And which ones give you the most frame advantage?
This is not a DOA4 discussion thread, so you’re asking the wrong question.
There are dedicated DOA boards, so you’re asking in the wrong place.
Chances are you’re not gonna get a good answer so look for one of those DOA boards, and ask there.
