Working Overtime: The C.Viper Technical Thread

I’m finding it alot easier to just do a M TK feint after a seismo instead of a fadc dash. Any reason to fadc over M TK feint?

Also, don’t know if this was discussed, but when I played gottnoskill online, he did this nice throw trap on my incoming character. As my character comes in from the corner, he does a L. Seismo, M. TK fient, to throw. So after I block the seismo, I hit the ground and fall into a throw trap.

I’ll always try to sneak in the P1 side before the match starts

I had someone once tell me that he deliberatly tried to keep me one that side.

Then he proceeded to cuss out Strider.

And yeah, an FADC is way better than an M TK Feint. The feints actually have 5 frames of recovery, plus pre-feint startup. FADC is just a dash, so you can do what ever. Also, if you are feinting for the purpose of killing recovery, use the H TK feint, it’s by far the fastest.

FlyingVe, any chance we may see a Tricks & Tech episode dedicated to FADC? I’m aware gottnoskill has made vids regarding this in Vanilla, but I feel we really need to delve into this some more. The traps you can create with this tech are straight up retarded, and I think an important part in leveling up Viper in the future.

Actually, i was gonna do one on feints, and one on FADC. I was gonna do feints next since we haven’t really talked about those in depth. But I’m taking a weak off first. Made a double episode, and FFXIII-2 is here…

I’ll be waiting on those. I’m pretty focused (no pun intended) on leveling my Viper back up again. Feints I have a pretty good feel for - FADC not so much.

Also, let me know how you feel about XIII-2, I’m almost done with vanilla and want to know if I should push 2 in front of Uncharted 3. UMVC3 has definitely taken control of my gaming life. I have games on backlog that I never thought would have that status.

Slacker smh

Is all of the stuff in the first few posts by noskill still applicable in Ultimate? I don’t remember anyone stating anything about Viper being changed that much from Vanilla, but I just want to make sure. I really like Viper in this game, even though I am nothing of a technical wizard when it comes to fighters. SJC Seismo looks too fun :stuck_out_tongue:

could someone please test this in the lab and tell me how marlinpie exactly connects a seismo–> plasma beam assist–> burn kick–> launcher? ( is there a tiger knee motion on the siesmo? is it the Light medium or hard flame kick? is it just pure timing ?) ive been practicing in the lab and i cant figure it out

IF you’re talking about her doing the relaunch you want to make sure you get the plasma assist out early so your seismo doesn’t hit the enemy up out of range. He’s using the SJ air light strength BK. I’m sure you can do different versions since they are in the air and the pop up is significantly better with higher strengths, but learn the timing with the light strength BK because you recover faster on this.

so are you saying i have to siesmo then do a super jump cancel to a light burnkick?

im managing to hit the siesmo + plasma beam+ burn kick at what appears to be good timing but then the character drops out after the Light burn kick and i whiff the launcher.

Gotta do a SJ on the light BK. If you do a regular jump cancel out of the seismo then you wont get the full pop that is needed to relaunch.

how is the importance of cviper’s techs rate from highest to lowest? like r.siesmo>whtev…?

Mobility AKA air movement. BK feints. Knowing how to take care of situations or stay away from them.
Seismic Hammer Rapid Fire for neutral game.
Seismic Hammer Rapid Fire for combos.
Focus attack shenanigans
EX Move knowledge.

Those last two can be interchanged but there are some very core tech that you need to know with her.

Burning kick game comes into mind but i still haven’t found it as effective as the stuff above (even though it is still boss.)

I’m back after forever, huzzahs!

The most important technology to learn for Viper:
Timing on EX cancels for free reversals.
Movement and feinting, how to get around.
Whatever technique lets you capitalize off of a long range seismo, either TKing a burn kick or rapid seismo + assist.
Safe seismos in neutral.
Rapid seismos.
Viper ball, which I’ve recently discovered more uses for which are very very scary. <3 We get Marvel 2 mix ups now. ^.^

You might have to show us some of those discoveries…

Gah, I vanished from the forums yet again, that was my bad, I’ll give a brief overview on each of the new things I’ve come up with:

First of all, Viper has Marvel 2 style mix up.

Since Burn kick feint fixes your facing ratio in the air you can use it to change directions then immediately air dash down. This Lets you effectively get MvC2 style 4 directional mix up albeit with a bit more hand gymnastics. If you use this technique with heavy burn kick you get your cross up high low overhead at a little more than the starting screen’s width if you Viper ball it though that’s pretty damn hard. I’ve been experimenting a lot with it and you can space it to come down directly on top of them and have an ambiguous left right and an ambiguous high low throw.

I think I might have seen gottnoskill do something similar to this on a stream a little bit ago.

how important is backwards wavedashing with viper?

To be honest, I NEVER, do it. I never see Chrisis, Gottnoskill, or MarlinPie do it either.

Viper can go backwards!? O.O

Hmm… But what would you ever use that for? :stuck_out_tongue:
