Yeah I’m Gen. Blue said he was good at everything. That was his thing. He wasn’t a scrub, he was just bottom tier in our circle. Who’s this?
Have you heard from Bllue at all since the summer? I have a feeling something has happened to him.
I’m Duong, I believe we used to go to the same school. I used to hang out at games on the weekend. I wasn’t much at anything back then. I’ve gotten quite a bit better these days.
I was wondering what had happened to you. Last I heard you had moved to Calgary.
Still here, Duong? There was a ton of asian guys back in the day. I’m still in Calgary and I didn’t play for like a year and a half when I got here. I started playing again like 5 months ago and when I play. I play like 3 times a month. It’s brutal. I don’t now what happen to blue and he is famous for dissapearing for like a year before showing up again.
Yeah I’m still here. I’m on break at work right now. Its to bad Blue just disappears. How long and why are you out there these days?
Yeah there were a lot of asians that used to go there back in the day. We used to play a lot of kof 97 back then. Atleast my friends did I used to play more of the vs series back then. Those were some good times.
Just hanging out, I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I got that over with. Now I’m just trying to get some education and generally having a good time here. I’m still not sure who you are but I must have played you if you played KoF97. You weren’t one of the Vietnames kids where you? I remember that crew.
You should know Shane though. He was the big chubby white guy who always wore black and a baseball cap.
Wait, Duong… you weren’t the dude that chilled with Long and George, were you?
Fuck yeah I missed the old days. I almost cried the day Games on the Avenue closed. It was the end of an era for me.
Mark, Shane, Greg, Peter, Rob, Lupus, Lee, Vong, Sue, Blue, the tall white guy that used to work there, that little asian kid that was plain talented, little budha, ramdom black people that were stupid good with Hanzo in Samurai Showdown 4. University Crew that sucked, the sea of philipino, viet, korean and the odd japanese guy that would come down and play shane for hours. There was Vong’s crew that mostly played on console. Vong, Ed, and the others that scape me at the momment.
Shane lost weight and put on a lot of muscle last we talked.
I’m sure we’ve spoken a few times and played before. I’m sure I know who your talking whenyou say those viet kids. George, Hung, Thang and them right? I talk to them on the rare occasion but thats about it.
I used to hang out with some Kimouen and Chhim back then. Neither of them really play fighters that seriously anymore.
I’ve heard of shane but have never met him. I used to know Sue. My brothers is pretty good friends with his brother still.
Did he ever work at Sears in KP?
Nope.
Too bad you never meet Shane. He was a level above everyone else. Back in the day you had to beat Shane to be the best and dude played everything. Most agressive player I’ve ever meet. I was a joy to play that man.
Shane got a cushy job at a Casino and I’m sure he probably still there. He was getting paid well and he was in an union goverment job.
Then I have no idea who he is eather.
Sigh* He must have quit fighting games after I left the city. When I come down to visit Shane I’ll arrange a meeting. I’m thinking of dropping by this summer to chill with Shane anyways.
Every summer we hold a large fighting game tournament. We booked two lecture theatres in the Armes building last year and held tourneys for T5,3S,GGXX/ and SSBM.
This year we’re planning the same thing. Hopefully it would be around the same time you visit.
I’m going in vacation to BC for Jun and I’ll fly down to winnipeg in July for a week or two. Tell me when you are holding the tourney and maybe I’ll plan around it.
We have yet to have formal talks about the summer tournament since its a ways off and we’re still figuring out which games will be played during summer ranbats. From recent events though I’m sure Tekken 5 and Smash will be there. Most likely Super Turbo and 3s will be there as well. Who knows a lot still to happen. Most likely it’ll be sometime in August though since some of the people running the event will be heading to T8 and thats mid July. It’l be great if you can plan around it though. Even if you can’t make it to the tournament we usually gather at my place on fridays to play so you’re more than welcome to join us at the time.
Those black guys who were good with Hanzo in SamSho 4 were Steffan and Justin Fields…Justin just told me that he and Steffan used to play a lot of SamSho. Also the tall white kid might be Matt, but he worked at Magicland instead. Duong, I didn’t know you knew so many god damn people that left Winnipeg! Why didn’t you tell us you fool, I must kick your ass in ST!
if you guys REALLY want your scene to grow.Do by weekly ranbats or atleast every 3rd week. Also set up fliers around your local arcades if not there then just start asking random people if they’d like to come out. bring scrubs shitty players any one willing to play and you’ll see your scene grow at a retarted rate.
Also expand the games you feture in your ranbats.do marvel do 3s do mvc2 fuck to xvsf sfa3 tekken. You gotta host all sorts fo games.find out what the players you "dont’ know play. Trust me i did this and now we havea bumping scene and have new players all the time.

Some of them still live in the city actually. I’m gonna try getting in contact with those people eventually. If Bleu was still around getting in contact with some of these people would be easier but he just disappeared and I wouldn’t be surprised to find out if he’s dead or something. I used to go to Games on the Avenue every weekend. So I played a lot of them but I was a scrub back then so I usually did very badly. Played a lot of the vs series I didn’t really learn much since I didn’t talk to the other players very often and didn’t know anything about tiers and advanced shit since the internet was still in its infancy.
Actually there have been ranbats run here last year. From what I understand though it was mostly 3s. That was before I knew about it. We’ll be doing them again this year but it’ll have to be run during the summer when we all have more time. Well atleast when the school players have more time. For the time being right now we just gather on the weekend usually at my place and game for many hours and we do play a variety of games.
just trying to help out
And help from anyone is always appreciated, whether it’s from our own city or from some ppl who used to be part of our city!
Ranbats did happen and they were successful in finding people for 3S, but other games are tough to do. Especially if we’re all kinda busy, but most of us aren’t RIGHT!? lol j/k
For the record, I was the best SS4 player in the city.
you guys should alsocome out to the west cost canadian championchips in may.=)
