If everything works out right, I’m under the impression that we will be doing Ranbats again this Summer (assuming everyone here will actually be able to run it). Last year it ran from May-August. Since the taste in games is more varied now than it was last year, we might do 2 games a week rather than just one. Those games will be voted on by the community.
If you drop by in July, you can probably head to one of the Ranbats. If everything runs generally the same way as last year, I suppose the next Summer tournament will be happening sometime in August.
I don’t think I ever really got the chance to go to Games on the Avenue that much since I was really young and had overprotective parents. I did go to Magic Land every once in a while though. I was a big fan of fighting games but only got to play them casually. I didn’t even know people played SamSho (I could’ve only dreamed of playing against people in it). I remember MVC1 being just insane but I always stank at vs. games. Tekken Tag I remember having some competitive players but I still had all the mental barriers and I didn’t have the dedication. I think it was Tekken 5’s release that helped jumpstart my interest back into fighting games and the first time I tried to become competitive in them.
The scene is small right now but I think it could be on it’s way. Even if the level of play is fairly low and turnouts are only around 8, I’d say that’s good enough (surely better than what it was before we tried anything). Right now though, the top games in the city seem to be SSBM, T5, 3S and ST. Our biggest task is just finding all the players. Right now, the majority of people I’m finding are mostly otakus who are “afraid” of tournaments. But I know there’s the players that are actually worth finding out there too.
Keep it up man. Winnipeg has alot of potenchal to get an actualy city rep. Remember to have those people get srk accounts and start posting and getting into the comunity. Also if there “scarde” reassure them that, its only about fun. make free ranbats to entice them. I know its kinda meh to have a bunch of free loaders you dont know comming into your homes or w/e and playing when you dont even know them.
but if its for the scene it could be for the better.also for the players who got that street fighter hart., get out there go ot tournaments every chance you got. Toronto Montreal Edmonton Ottawa. you guys a re right smack dead center of all of these citys. Go to their tournaments. get your name out there. You only become better as you play better people. if you guys get good then fordamn sure new players will get good fomr YOU. Your the shinning example for your city just by posting in this thread and putting every thing yougot into it.
I’d love to get around to the bigger tournaments and will make some effort to get out this summer. That’ll be in the summer though. I’ve got to pay a few bills off first. I hope the others make it oout as well. Also need to try getting in contact with the old school players. There were some good players here back in the day. Hopefully they’ll still be willing to play and improve the overall skill level.
man, T7 was dope though, it was pretty fun, cuz I got to meet a lot of Toronto players, wish I could meet some West Coast Canada players though, I never got to meet JJTactics, and I hear he’s one of THE best West Coast MvC2 players out there…
He is he is. He lives in Edmonton and is a good friend of mine. He comes to all our tournaments and ranbats. It’d be great to have You guiys come odwn for one. The more you play the better you get you know.
When are you events held. I doubt I’ll be able to make it down there for a while but I’d love to go. I might have a place to stay there to so thats not a worry. Just a matter of getting a car down there. Anyone up for a roadtrip during one of the long weekends in the summer for this?
