Erm I’m not comparing SF to MK in that sense. It really doesn’t matter how good a game is. I was trying to illustrate the point that a game didn’t even need to be particularly amazing for it to challenge the norm, it just had to offer something new and interesting. And whether you think MK is great or not, doesn’t matter as it achieved this. In saying that though, if 2D MK continued to be a success and had better gameplay then it probably wouldn’t have switched to 3D, or would have done much later.
That is true, I only play old fighters. Any SF2, World Heroes 2/J/P, Fatal Fury Special, Karnov’s Revenge, and lots of other SF2esque games.
I am trying my best to play other fighters atm, particularly Kof2k2 and ggxxAC. Zakuta, when i 'm ready, that Baiken of yours is finally gonna come 2nd in a tournament.

I’m not trying to be on your ass or anything but if you don’t know anything about MK why do you post about it? One more thing 2D MK in its prime is far more popular than 3D MK has been or ever will be.

Named two, and those two are higher quality then any GG clone except maybe Arcana. (can’t judge for sure until I play it, but given Yuki’s rep I believe it would be good)
Firstly the EX games arent even made by Capcom, and they arent even 3D fighters, just 2D fighters with 3D graphics.
Secondly, I have played 3D MK, I owned and played MK4, DA and Deception cause i like MK, i just think they totally fail at being good competitive fighters.
Thirdly, I never said 3D MK was more popular than 2D MK.

did anyone here tell anyone else to “stop playing his game”? all i was reading was “just try it instead of hating”. in case you haven’t noticed since GGAC got released in the US more people from srk went and tried the game. and some loved it. so maybe asking people to try a game isn’t a bad idea after all. not everyone is as closed minded and full of hate as you are.
same thing for arcana or akatsuki or whatever. every player wants more people to play his game= more competition.
I suggest you reassess your reading comprehension skills before you try to call someone out like that. Nowhere is the dude saying “play GG cuz the old shit is whack”, he’s even said multiple times that he only plays older games. The whole “you’re screwed” statement has more to do with the fact that new games are more likely to ape GG than the older games, so if you like the older stuff, nothing new will likely be marketed towards your interests.

That’s pretty clear. The thread starter has said several times, in pretty simple words, what he meant by GG being the new SF2. Pretty much every new fighter that comes out now is following GG’s lead, similar to how every new fighter that came out back during SF2’s era followed its lead. The problem is that guys like you read the thread title without actually reading the thread and think this guy is trying to say that GG > SF2 or something like that. Thus the whole “people not reading”.
I think part of it is the fact a large percentage of the community really dislikes GG and GG-style games. I think it’s mostly for gameplay reasons, though some people don’t like GG-style. (personally I have no problem with it- I just don’t view GG as worth the effort to learn when there are better games that have a less steep hill to climb to start “playing for real”)
GG being the new SF2, means more GG clones, which means more games this segment of the community will HATE. (HATE has to be all caps now right?)
Read my post again, I agreed that GG has been the mold. However the idiotic comparison at hand is that GG is the new SFII, which we all know it is not. If it were, it would be the #1 game at Evo. What I am saying is that the overall impact of GG and its system has yet to be felt, that is if it ever will be which I doubt. Japan is just lucky that a) make the games b) have arcades c) get console releases. They beat us on all accounts. Besides, fighting games in japan still get beat by lame ass dating simulators and other random jap style games. So saying that GG is “insanely” popular in japan does not mean shit.
Regardless, this is America. Few players here actually play GG games well enough to be considered “good”.
LOL Pablo you still don’t get it. I never said GGXX is the new SF2 cause its the no.1 game. I said its the new SF2 cause its the mold of which most new 2D fighters use. And that since GGXX has been around no new game has come along and taken over that spot.

I did agree. I just felt that “GG=SF2” nowadays was way too much of an overstatement. It implies much more than what you originally explained in your first post. That is why I did not know what the hell you were talking about.

It’s the new competitive excitement. No one dies and it’ll go on forever. You can even drink beer! It’ll be a new kind of killing.”
You’re only asking for strong opposition.
Seems the only way you’re going to get people to play that is to actually DO something about it to make a stronger followin here. There are plenty of those who dream but few who actually do. The Evo staff may or may not depending.
Checkin out that Evo X thread has plenty of people in it crying support for GG, and just as many bashin it.
Taking into consideration everything in that thread kinda leads to the presumption that people just stick to the norm. Most everyone in that thread seem to agree that the top games in Evo X should be at a minimum Capcom games revolving around similar mechanics/gameplay for years.
Time more than anything is what it will take in this instance.
'Till then people will likely play what they’ve trained to play until time and new blood and everything forces OG out, kinda like how killing folks in a coliseum seems to have lost its allure.
EDIT: The thing is OG has proven time and again it’s resilient nature.

This game was specifically designed to answer 3s. Remember how KOF games can be likened to SF2? Never forget that Capcom and SNK are competing brands and always managed to release a fighting game around the same time.
In any case, I don't really want to explain AGAIN what r3ko meant by 'GG is the new SF2' if anyone else brings it up. Seems people just don't want to read and accept the facts.
For the people wanting to get more into GG, try applying those basic tactics you learnt in SF2. Don't go deep into the shit right away, you're only going to do yourself more harm than good, the very basic tactics work wonders when learning the game. You only need to learn more advanced stuff when you NEED to learn it. Easing yourself into a game is easier than trying to do all the hi-lvl stuff right away. It doesn't apply to you yet so don't waste time thinking too much about it!
In fact, good ol, Zoning and Spacing and Footsies will fuck lesser players up cause they won’t have any clue whats going on. A lot of GG players who started with GG (a lot of them) have a real bad understanding of these things.
