People are being intimidated by what they see going on. Just like in SF you can stick to the basics and be successful. Seeing a lot of shit on the screen doesn’t mean a lot of shit is actually going on, if you get what I’m trying to say.

Yeah these threads just make more negative opinions and conflicts between other fighters. I think the only way for the fighting communities to get better is for us to stop being so negative ABOUT EVERYTHING and chill out and just play more.
I swear to god, everything about arcades, unpopular fighters, 3S/Marvel balance, and Japan vs. America always ends in a big fat shit fest.

Come on though, it’s probably Japan’s fault Third Strike got popular over here… though it almost definitely wasn’t because they’re Japanese – it’s because they knew the game before us and played it more and were able to show the US that hey, this is a pretty sick game.
So when the Japanese like something I don’t think we should take it seriously because it’s Japanese – but because they have a large, competitive player base and generlaly know what games are good because they have the interest and talent pool to find out.
Where, show me all these threads, making the comparison that GGXX is the standard nowasays just like SF2 was back when it was king.

Please people read the original post. Firstly i am not comparing how SF2 and GGXX play. Nor am i saying that we should or should not play GGXX. Finally i am not saying GGXX is better than so and so game.
If you want it as simply as possibly. I am saying how GGXX is the new SF2 because its latest(strong emphasis here) top 2D fighter, from which other 2D fighters try to grab at their own success, just like SF2 was back in the day. I then go onto say how this relates to why we generally don’t play new games, at least on the scale that people with do with GGXX. I also cover my ass with games before GGXX too.
But before people go off on one, please read the original post before you do. And you’ll soon see I am not shitting on any game, anything or anyone, except maybe MK and VF1 
Hell I would actually like GG to match the success SFII had but it is not even close. If that were the case, our scene would actually be thriving.
Once again did you read the original post? Its not about GGXX being as successful as SF2 was, cause no fighter ever was and probably ever will be.

You see it’s not the lack of parries, or that it’s too hard, or that it’s anime inspired that turns people off to a game without playing it. I mean it could be these things, but in the case of newskool stuff it’s the fact that they took crossup j.mk>c.mk>hadouken and they made it a combo that would fill a paragraph. They took “guy with eyepatch” and they made him “guy with bowling balls for eyes named after top foreign bowler… IN 3D!” It’s expansion for the sake of expansion. I’m not saying LETS PLAY KARATE CHAMP, but don’t expect people to care when they slap more than enough unecessary fluff onto something you’ve played 5+ years ago and still do to this day. It’s there to keep you occupied and spending money.
It may sound like a joke, but this is imho deeper than it intended. Fanboyism really hurts scenes. People rarely start threads here that say “here’s new game X and here are strats and videos etc.” They do eventually establish a wiki style thread, but not after lots of “yo game W is old! you need to get with game X cuz it’s W on crack!” (usually in game W’s thread). If a flaw or misconception is brought up about either game it’s Thread Fighter time. I’m not naive enough to look for intelligent discourse on srk, but understand that wanting someone to care about something as transparent as the latest loli fighter is the equivalent of being a Jehova’s Witness. “Yo it’s like Christianity, only it’s better! If you’re saying americans only play GG because the Japanese play GG, really, where’s the problem? It’s a good game. They know it, and they’re showing the rest of the world how good it can be. Some of you people refuse to play anything new, clinging desperately to your pet games because it’s familiar and safe. The real reason the fighting game scene is dying in america is because it’s stagnant. 3s came out 9 years ago (rounding up). MvC2 came out 6 years ago. CvS2 7 years ago. That’s a seriously long time for no new games to come onto the american scene. And now GGXXAC is finally on mainstream western shores and you people are shitting all over it?

You’re still not understanding. I think this has been covered a few times by myself and the r3komang. It’s simple really.
It’s the SF2 in regards to the fact that fighting games are now following the ideas put down by GG, rather then SF2. It’s quite funny though, as for both franchises, it took for the 2nd version of the game to come out for them to reach out to people.
There’s a few reasons as to why it’ll never be as wildly popular, but only a fool would say that GG isn’t so far the successor of SF2 in terms of how a 2D fighting game from Japan is made - wether it be a company project or a doujin project.
Hell, even Capcom is asking for ARCs help, if that isn’t evidence enough!
