Considering how Sony is handling being repeatedly hacked, perhaps they aren’t so bright either…
Either way, Sony only really needs to get SFV exclusivity, after that most gamers will have picked up a ps4 if they wanted/needed to, and I doubt Sony would care if, say, Capcom vs SK 3 came out for all consoles.
Then we’d get trolled with a Viewtiful Joe port to the PS4 that looks exactly like the one on PS2.
Or, even worse, an Okami sequel that is in perpetual development like The Last Guardian.
Yeah, but honestly, what happened to Capcom after Resident Evil 4?
My theory is that a couple of execs at Capcom suddenly got dementia, and instead of sending them into early retirement they listen to the random shit they’re screaming through the office like:
“Let’s make Resident Evil an action game with tank-controls!”, “On disc dlc and pay 2 win for SFxT!”, “Let’s outsource DmC to Ninja Theory!”, “Let’s “update” games 9 month after release so people pay twice!”.
Not to mention the half-assed Ultra update, the amazingly poor support for their PC ports and release after release of mediocre games.
I really hope that Dead Rising 3 does well and that SFV is a great game that sells very well and I hope they make a Resident Evil game soon that appeals to their target audience for that series.
Would also be nice to see a couple of great original games in the future.
So far SFV looks promising and I’m enthusiastic about it, but I was enthusiastic about the move of SFIV from GFWL to Steamworks as well, so if I know one thing is that pre-ordering or day 1 purchases are out of the question for me regarding everything that’s branded Capcom.
Dead Rising 3 did do well. Capcom showed it sold over a million copies in their last quarterly. They consider it a success. There already a Resident Evil that appeals to original fans in Revelations and it’s getting a sequel.
I think the game would’ve been twice as good without that stupid ally they gave you. Aside from that it’s sadly a spin-off which should actually be main series because the game is more Resident Evil than the last 2 entries in the main series.
This is the worst outcome for SF in general since it limits new players from picking up the game. Growth will definitely slow down because of exclusivity. Let’s hope Sony gets their act together and fix online play. Because when it comes to current gen fg’s that both consoles share, Xbox outperforms online like crazy.
Note the words ‘CURRENT GEN’. We’re not talking PS3 or 360 anymore. Now that PS4 and XBO are both behind pay walls I don’t see too much difference in the online experience except for DL speeds on PSN.
Revelations is main series. The first game places take between RE4 and RE5. The games ending directly leads into RE5’s Lost in Nightmares chapter. With the second game it appears Revelations will be a subseries.
Exclusivity isn’t gonna hurt the scene as much as everyone thinks. The thing is, high sales doesn’t exactly translate to bigger numbers at tournaments. Last I checked, Mortal Kombat sold just as much or even better than SSFIV (which came out at the same time), but the competitive scene for the game is way smaller. With all the exclusives coming to the console, it’s kinda obvious that Sony is trying to make the point that exclusives do matter. And the fact it, they do, especially with something like fighting games. Most anyone with more than a passing interest in Street Fighter will now most likely pick up a PlayStation 4 now. With that, anyone for whom SFV was a factor in picking up the PlayStation 4 for is probably more likely to actually play the game more seriously and eventually come to events and tournaments.
Then there’s Sony’s investment into SFV and eSports. Finally, Street Fighter is getting the change at the big eSports money that we’ve been wanting for some time now. Now players have a chance at getting decent payouts and considering that these are for singles, and not teams, the players actually get more than some more established games are getting.
Cross play with PC ensures that there’s no divide within the community. Anybody with a copy of SF5 can play each other regardless of platform. The setup is perfect.
You do know that Akuma belongs to Capcom right ? There is no way Capcom is gonna allow that.
I think it is unfortunate for the XBox guys but lets be real here, exclusivity may actually give the game more publicity than it would normally get. I know for a fact that Cross-play is the best feature that has ever existed online wise for a fighting game. Having one whole big community online instead of multiple ones is amazing.
Because they are in a partnership with Sony. It is pretty obvious that they won’t make a move that benefits Microsoft only at this point.
Also I am pretty sure that Capcom would gain nothing from having a character in KI in the first place. I doubt that there is anyone that plays KI that are unfamiliar with SF, so even publicity wise it isn’t that beneficial for Capcom.
You know, Capcom’s partnership with Sony could probably be limited to SFIV and USFIV, no one says now onwards Capcom games will only be published on PS4, unless you have proofs in hand that proves otherwise.
What about Street Fighter x Tekken? Will that only be published on PS4?
The lack of XBox may potentially hurt sales of SF5. The XBox 360 version of vanilla SF4 sold 3 million copies. How many of those fans will only have an XBO? Also, PC seems like a non-factor. Vanilla SF4 sold 100,000 copies on PC, that’s practically nothing. We must also keep in mind that the last-gen consoles at that time had a bigger user-base and already had almost 4 years of time.
I think its a given that sales will drop for SF5, I don’t think its realistic to assume that every person who only owns an XBO will buy a PS4 just for it. But, I also think Capcom knows this and is banking on the investment from Sony off-setting the loss in sales. Doesn’t matter to me because I’m one of the few planning to a buy a PS4 exclusively for SF5. Unless I hear word that Super Mega Turbo Ultra SF5 will release on the XBO.
