The rumour is that Microsoft were unwilling to allow cross platform networking.
There is a lot of comparison going on between what is happening here and what happened with tomb raider and why is Sony not getting as much flak. As far as I’m concerned I think exclusivities of flagship titles are a bad idea but at least this is also on pc whereas tomb raider isn’t, don’t like the ps4 you still have an alternative and aren’t forced in to a single option. I fully expect a new version will be out 12 to 18 months after release that will also be on xbone.
Sony’s moves as of late have been pretty calculated to make sure that PS4 is the system of choice for tournaments. First they allow sticks to be compatible with both PS3 and PS4, then they got Xrd for both consoles, now there’s the one-two punch of Ultra on PS4 and SFV PS4 exclusivity. In short, they’ve laid out a clear upgrade path that makes it easy for the FGC to move on to PS4.
The irony is that Microsoft allowed crossplay for Blazblue Calamity Trigger, an anime fighter, with PC players,
Yet now Sony takes the lead.
Back then PS3 was difficult to develop games for.
SFIV arcade relying on DirectX and PC architecture, made Xbox360 the system of choice, even in Japan.
Now though architecture difference isnt a hidrance anymore, so a PS4 version is much easier to port.
XB1 version will definitely arrive later. But regarding online points and achievements, PS4/PC crossplay has certainly an advantage. No need to have separate accounts, you can transfer statistics and you can use any controller as well. So you can use one platform for training and the other for playing.
I think this is a good move to only have it on one console. Capcom fighter have a history last gen of being developed for one console and ported to the other, and the port is always ass. SF4 and MvC3 were developed for Xbox and the PS ports are terrible, SFxT was developed for PS and the Xbox port was terrible.
this is how i see it also. i mean for people who absolutely have to have SF (a bunch of people on this site) they’re not going to get a x1 over a ps4 hoping that other iterations will come. they’ll either grab a ps4 or ps4+x1 unless they go the pc route.
Judging by the new Monster Hunter games being exclusive to Nintendo (I bet Sony is still pissed off about this decision), Dead Rising 3 exclusive to XB1, and SF5 exclusive to PS4. It looks like Capcom’s new business model is now partnership with companies for their well known IPs.
They don’t make internal games anymore or have enough money to fund a new game by themselves, so it looks like partnership is the best choice for now. I won’t be surprise if Microsoft and Nintendo is now partnering or already partnered with Capcom for exclusive rights for their other well known titles to be system exclusives.
Don’t count on Capcom being bought by Sony or any other company. It wouldn’t be a wise business decision since partnership for certain titles with multiple companies will generate more money.
Am I the only one who’s actually happy that it’s exclusive? As I get older I’m caring less and less about consoles, and if these kind of decisions by developers are making my time as a gamer easier then I’m all for it. Currently both GGXrd and SFV are Playstation exclusive so being the top two fighting games I’m looking out for right now, I have little reason to consider buying an XBO with expensive peripherals, and for me that’s a good thing. As it was I was struggling to dedicate my self to a new console due to lack of games, it was a massive headache and right now thanks to Capcom that headache is gone. One game doesn’t justify a console to me unless it’s something I dedicate my self to long term, physically, mentally, emotionally and financially. I couldn’t be bothered with the debacle of buying consoles and arcade sticks while the community made up its mind what was the best console choice competitively, seemingly that won’t be happening unless Capcom decide to support Microsoft in other titles. Right now for me this was a good move, here’s hoping the relationship between Capcom and Sony lasts and they can create more exclusive titles together to make my life even simpler.
Fighting games, including most Japanese games have always been more popular on Playstation consoles than on Xbox consoles since the PS2/Gamecube/Original Xbox days. In the end, no one will care that SF V’s not on Xbox One, they’ll mostly buy it on PS4.
Getting this on PC only, until i know for a fact (like USF4 i own on 360 and PC) a definitive final version of the game is coming:
Super Street Fighter V is coming out probably
Cross platform means no difference in online, we all play on the same servers, netcode should be similar, i mean that’s the only way it would work right?
This trailer was so hype for me, i’m an artist who loves to draw anime and video game characters. (yes, street fighter girls sometimes) I’m somewhat of a decent musician when it comes to guitar (i can appreciate the awesome motivating trailer music), i attend tourney every now and then for SF and smash, this video just relates to me pretty much (iv’e done everything in this trailer extensively, even skate), also many of you probably. (which was obviously the goal for them, but still…) Of course, arcades, that’s something most of us can relate to. Rise up. hehe’
^^ Well there are supposedly insider info that Capcom has designed SF5 to be able to be updated via patches and DLC only so they won’t be rereleasing. Though I wouldn’t doubt there won’t be something like a GotY edition.
I agree. And that’ll be the only time that they’ll release an update.
If anything, it’s going to be very similar to how NetherRealm Studios have done with MK9: Release costumes, more characters, etc. through updates & DLC, then later, release all of the downloadable content on a disc (like from MK 9 to MK: Komplete Edition). They’re not going to be bringing out updated versions like Super Street Fighter IV, SSF IV: Arcade Edition, or Ultra Street Fighter IV where they’ll be adding more characters, stages, music, & more stuff in; those days are over as of now.
My speculation is the initial release will be exclusive, but when they release Super 6 months later (and AE/Ultra 6 months after that) it’ll be multiplatform. I’ll believe the “one release” rumors when I see it, they could’ve easily done that last generation, I think they just like spitting out rehashes. And as far as I know, Microsoft and Sony still probably charge per patch, so shoveling everything into a reissue saves the publisher money.
But I highly doubt this entire generation will play out without some iteration of Street Fighter V hitting the Xbox One.
Ifor that’s true Def getting the season pass for this game! I think that’s a good move not for us, but for the contingent of asshats that are always complaining and making the ultra super duper edition jokes
