Why no love for the SFI cast - the ones that started it all?

Vega is attracted to beauty. He compliments and remarks on that for people of both genders.

Well men, Vega only likes himself. I think he is very clearly heterosexual with great appreciation for the beauty of Chun Li and Cammy.

I like Retsu because I need an equivalent to Gato or Feng Wei, and he seems like he’d be that type of character.

I’ve heard that Gief is gay actually, here’s some info for that if you wanna check it out:

http://www.capcom-unity.com/street_fighter/go/thread/view/7411/22259629/zangief-gay?post_id=387347217

Granted a bunch of forum posts, facts do not make sure. However they do a good job of addressing the possibility with info from Capcom Japan more so than just saying ā€œhe wrestles bears and smashes faces into his crotch! He has to be gay!!ā€

Oh yeah, it says that in the SF encyclopedia. Though, It just women of marriageable age that are beautiful. Though, the term ā€œbeautifulā€ varies from person to person. Just look at vega.

Gief is a total homo. His SF2 stage is like an underground gay cruising party from the late 70s/early 80s. And there is this:

That image is a Rocky reference, having a rivals picture in your mirror to motivate you, the japanese symbols on the Vega picture apparantly means idiot, unless ive been lied to.

Cant really explain the whiskers, maybe he thinks Vega is as puny and weak as a kitten, he does insult his muscle size in sf4 when he wins against him.

Tbh ā€œlegitā€ SF designs often have a simple classy side that average audience can’t understand, and where there is ignorance the step from ā€œi don’t understandā€ to ā€œit sucksā€ is an easy and obvious consequence

Example some SF4 new faces are considered bland/weak designs when actually they are conceptually good and do what the chara designer had in his mind: be able to mix with the rest of SF cast, with many designs being very simple and from 20+ years ago

Abel is usually considered bland, but actually he bring on SF tradition of fighter tribute (Fedor Emelianenko), martial art archetype (russian Sambo), and have a design able to stay side by side with Ryu without stylistic discrepancy

El Fuerte is super hated, and still is a coherent luchador under the SF design pov. They actually even proven that was possible for them give him a more ā€œcoolā€ fancy design (see the snake alt) with a more modern touch, but for the actual canon/official design they just took the coherent simple group vision as they usually do

Simple problem is that usually peoples don’t understand/like (usually both) WHAT is SF design, and/or pretend it should be changed to please theyr personal tastes

As for Rufus, Juri, Hakan

Rufus- He’s not bad. At least is not bad as whiners pretend. Sure, his body shape is maybe too much innatural (tbh Rufus -> real life super obese is not far from Zangief -> rl super muscle dude), but overall the joke on supah obese ignorant american who pretend to be some Epic Master in secret asian arts is unusual but at the same time fitting for SF.
Is kind of fun society/martial joke that already exist (see that white ninja comedy old movie), and was partially already explored by Capcom with Sodom.
Proportions aside (and personally find proportion great for that design) is a pretty solid design, with elements that incarnate perfectly both sides of the joke, and last but not last animation/style work for it in perfect harmony

Juri- Juri is not bad. Juri is conceptually very good, and more than that kinda needed as korean/TKD archetype char, and cover new roles (example evil female) without go too over the top and keeping the martial art/country thing
Juri design kinda got ruined by marketing
They surely was able to do a better and more SF-fitting design, but at the same time theyr marketing mission was create a character that look ā€œnewā€, fresh and able to attract new players/fans outside of SF sphere
So is a little betrayal, but still as a whole a good design, solid and able(very good at it actually) to be complementary and work well if put side by side with good classic design like Chun or Cammy (and imho waaay better and less ā€œmarketingā€ than shits like Sakura/Karin)

Hakan- Hakan is simple to explain. Legit and strong in almost everything under SF design logic (original, archetype, characterized), and basically SFEX Darun 2.0 version.
Only thing a little over the top are cromatic choices (ridicolous hair color, exagerate reddish skin tone)… but the thing is, while i’m not totally sold on it, if Hakan got a less over the top color scheme with safer black hairs and light brown/brown skin, the design itself will fail at be put side by side with other designs being too weak, not catching the eye enough, and (as new character) having no previous years-long legacy supporting his simple design.
He will be like a not-famous Blanka without green skin and flashy orange hairs.
Basically even for his design ā€œweaknessā€ there is a reason for it, and more important it actually serve avoid bigger ones

I think she’s cute.

Nah, I have respect for makoto. It might have been the SF4 models since it made her cheeks look chubby like a squirrels. But in actual artwork that’s not present.

I have respect for most of the females. Sakura, Ibuki, Viper and Rose…not feeling it.

But still…Juri for life.

Capcom needed a female villain. Better late than never!

Though I think SNK was influenced by Juri as well, doing that thing to one of their best characters…

That is the one thing I’m still not 100% sure on. Is she a villain? Anti villain? Anti-hero? I just don’t know. Like her actions and personality scream evil badass but her goal says ā€œtake down the big bad boss just in my own way.ā€

Ah mature. Cruelty does have it’s charms. Wasn’t Juri more influenced by mature instead of the other way around? I’m not familiar with the KOF timeline or chronology.

I’m hoping Juri once again makes a big splash and has a huge impact on the story.

Nah dude Juri is straight up evil, she’s sadistic, power hungry, and a bit cray cray. She’s more of an anarchistic dark horse out to muck up at least 2 sides of the evil trifecta in SF4’s storyline. Chaotic Evil if you will.

Honestly I think she has a huge chance of returning (popularity aside) due to the possible storyline of Shadaloo vs Illuminati. She’s gonna see the power on display and desire to destroy it for her own amusement.

But this Juri talk is derailing this thread, back to SF1 character discussions.

Now then, who would win in an eyebrow battle? Retsu or post-SF2 Ryu? Hopefully Capcom lets us finally put this age old question to rest.

Juri’s alignment is chaotic evil. There’s not way in hell she’s an anti-hero. She has more in common with Oni than with a real anti-hero like Catwoman. She just wants to inflict the suffering she experienced on a child, on everyone. I recall a discussion about her once we had on here and it was decided that she is the dark mirror of Chun Li.

Both Chun Li and Juri suffered at the hands of Shadaloo (losing their families). The former grew up and decided that no one should go through what she went through. Juri on the other hand, grew up and decided that everyone should go through what she went through. I don’t think Juri even cares about revenge (against Bison I mean), in fact she may even align herself with him if it served her her interests; which basically can be summed up in the line ā€˜some people just want to watch the world burn’. She’s really a fantastic and unique addition to the roster.

Anyway, Retsu’s eyebrows > Ryu’s eyebrows.

Oh no. She wants Bison dead and shadaloo burned to ashes. As for ā€œI want everyone to suffer like I did.ā€ I can’t really say yay or nay since I don’t have a proper answer.

Yes to the first, no to the second yes to the third.

Anyway, if they had to bring back another sf1 character then Eagle or Birdie would most likely come back. Mostly due to fan requests then anything.

Mature has been around since 1996, more than 10 years before Juri was created. Hell, Mature was created before Kill Bill’s crazy blond lady missing an eye.

Juri has no heroic aspects to her, she is indeed power hungry. No powerhungry in ā€œI want to have more FSE type powersā€ but ā€œI want control and I have contempt for authorityā€ type of power. She simply doesn’t care for being told what to do by anyone that has nothing to do with wanting to take down bad guys and be heroic. It has to do with wanting to be in command and not wanting to take orders from anyone.

Birdie is the one of the least popular characters in SF history. Geki is more popular than Birdie:

And when you consider that every single other SF1 character below birdie has yet to appear in a later game while Birdie was in Alpha, that says a lot.

Makes sense. Though The ā€œcontrolā€ part slightly confuses me. But I guess that is why She took over S.I.N…maybe. Good I need more Juri screen time.

As in she wants to control people/events/things. She wants to be IN power. She wants to be the boss. Not a terribly hard concept to understand lol.

Her encounter with Bison at the end of the SF4 tournament suggests otherwise. Both of them survive the fight (if a fight even took place), which means some sort of deal or arrangement was made between the two since they both go their separate ways afterwards (Bison kidnaps Rose and she finishes off Seth and goes on to find a new ā€˜hobby’). SFxT is not cannon, but the fact they were paired together may suggest the kind of dynamic they will have story wise in the mainline series. So no, Juri doesn’t care for revenge against Bison as much as she cares for chaos.

Why is it certain that she survives?
