Why most US fighting gamers dont want to play new 2D fighters?

Well here’s a K’ one for XI

But yeah I kinda agree if it wasn’t for Thongboy’s Tutorial I dought I would of picked up 3rd Strike. Even if I did pick it I would be as good as I am now.

Even though this guy is a total duche he is right (joking)!!! I grew up playing Samarai showdowns, KOFs, Capcom fighters, and Tekken. Each company has a different feel to the fighting game. If you didnt build your foundation around these companies when you were a kid then playing them now would be like driving a manual car when you are used to automatic. So in other words if you were a capcom fan boy ur life playing snk or even sammy games would feel odd.

People just dont like change!!! I bet if a 4th strike came out with some new characters and just tweaked the engine and switched up the super arts then people would go crazy for it…Now if they did that lets say every other year fans would still buy it…now it might draw in new people but the people that love it now would always get the newest version…If they did that capcom fans wouldnt ever even think of touching SNK games…Just like Snk fans now dont think of touching SF or GG or MBAC…cause they keep getting new games to keep them occupied. I play just about every fighter (except MBAC uhhggg) but if capcom makes a true sequel to SF ill bust out some break dancing (i dont even know how to break dance).

And see guys that is where people like me the tutor/teacher comes in everywhere I go I love to teach people these new games etc…

See yet another point of my thread…I am opening myself up to anyone that has any and all questions…

So I don’t buy the you need a teacher thing…yes it helps but see my POV is this…If you want to get the job done bad enough you will find a way…which means you didnt want it bad enough to begin with!!

So yes all this in KOF guys I tell you I do not mind helping you guys out be it online, at NEC, or whatever…remember I know it is intimidating to change yet hence why I am willing to help…remember I know how to play 3s, CVS2 etc so I can easily relate this to KOF and NGBC etc.

Once again it all goes back to desire…

What are you willing to sacrifice to be good???

Input=output. Top players in 3s will tell you that being a forum junkie and just watching match vids alone won’t make you good.

You’ve got to play someone hence what am I doing I know what you’re thinking…I am TRYING TO UNITE EVERYONE EVERYWHERE I GO…I am trying to unite everyone that plays SNK games in one thread so people can start playing!!!

That’s Mummy-B’s old av he wears it in remembrance of him you dolt.

Yeah…it’s not like he actually likes Samurai Shodown.

the new installment of KOF xI is best so far interms of game play and speed. To Me the KoF series has always been stale in its game play. An undynamic combo system, Stickfigure animations, unbalanced characters. I could never take the series seriously until now.

If that were true, then we all would’ve been playing Vampire Saviour, because the Japanese were big on that game and no one here gave a shit about it.

Thongboy’s right though. I wanted to get people interested in Last Blade 2, so I posted a big guide with everything I know, and uploaded a bunch of videos to youtube. You can’t push people into trying to learn a fighter, because they’ll eventually drop it due to lack of interest. They have to want to play it themselves. Especially if it’s a fighter with a very small number of players.

It takes more than that, though. People have to figure out that they’re interested in the game before they want to know more about it.

That’s why there’s all the random stuff in my videos, the jokes and the themes and the padding. For one thing, because I enjoy it, haha. But also it makes the vid more appealing to people who don’t necessarily love the game already. I can’t expect someone who doesn’t play 3s to sit through a tutorial that is literally re-explaining how to do a fireball properly. But if it’s fun to watch then they’ll want to see it anyway, and learn something along the way.

It’s like the difference between CNN and the Jon Stewart show. People should watch the news anyway, but it gets pretty dry and hard to follow with all the monotony. But the Jon Stewart show has the same content AND it’s great to watch, so a lot more people are willing to watch that. You gotta hide the pills in chocolate, haha.

Also, video allows people you’ll never even know about to find your work and learn from it. If I travelled around just handing out copies of my video even, it wouldn’t reach a tenth as many people as it has already just from throwing it up on the internet. You can’t be everywhere at once, but people can trade the knowledge and find their own local assistance once they get started. It ain’t about us teaching personally, it’s about spreading the word, yo.

N - Man, I’m yappy today.

That’s exactly it. When I hear about a game from any random source, first thing I do is look for videos of actual “mid/high-level play” and see if it’s something I want to get into, and FAQs about how the game is “supposed to” be played. Most people outside of a particular game’s community don’t have any idea where to look for things, myself included. It’s all about marketing, really. But there has to be good content before people start looking, otherwise they’ll just dismiss it.

N - And yeah, Samurai Showdown is hot garbage

youre missing my point
i was trying to address the title of the thread
yeah of course if you want something bad enough you will accomplish it…, but I thought we were talking about why 2d games arent as popular in the US, not about what the hell top players say to do to be just like them.
didnt read whole thread

most people play games for fun, they dont play to sacrifice things so they can be good. And maybe that is the answer to the thread title.
so maybe the solution would be to work to make the strats/combos more accessible to the average gamer. Not only would that help newbies out in having fun with the game, but it would help out in upping the level (and amount potentially) of competition also.
but then again maybe that is not possible to get info out there like it is for halo or whatever the hell else is a top seller becuase of the low popularity of 2d fighters; so the serpent swallows its tail
i dont know

ST is another rehash of sf2.

Put that in your smoke and pipe it!

Acutally a KoF touranment would go well in evo given CVS2,

Although MVC2, SF3, and CVS2 are regulars with one another. I learned at evo east that top tiers aren’t that interested in others.

fI remember CVS2 players didn’t like marvel or SF and vice versa.

However given CVS2 Roster, i think it would be fit to havea KoF tournament, given cvs 2’s cast.

because impretty suere a lot of players are interested to play other games by CVS2’s roster.

They always try KoF tournies in the BYOC section. I’ve never seen one go over like 20 people, but they might just not all be there at the same time.

Then again, it’s not really Evo’s problem, ne? There has to be interest before the game gets “adopted”. We nagged poor inkblot for like a year before 3s got in, and even then it was only after repeated large-draw tournies were done without SRK’s influence. If KoF games had tournies like that it’d be a lot easier to sneak in.

N - And if it ain’t in America, it don’t count (for this particular purpose).

speaking of which…

how did Guilty Gear made it to evo?

Because there are so many SNK characters in the top tier right? Lol.
90% of the people who play CvS2, use the same 4 characters. The advent of roll cancelling (which I personally feel makes the game a lot less enjoyable) pretty much necessitates at least one of Sagat, Bison, Blanka or Cammy.

From what I can tell, after Marvel, 3s, Cvs2, Smash, and Tekken, Guilty Gear has the most competitors. Also, since the japanese are coming out to play, we should have something they prefer to compete in, yeah? And since SRK usually administers the SBO slots, it makes sense for them to handle “official Guilty Gear business”.

N

Or they "get tired of waiting’ for said tourney’s to start LOL.

TS6 actually went over 20 something people…See I have been talking with some others and I can’t reveal anything but we got some big plans for making shit happen…check out Shin_Kensous new KOFXI Vanessa Tutorial vid guys in my thread its HAWT Shit!!

Persona watch out!!!

Okay dude we heard you the first time. No need to spam your thread here. If people wanna play SNK games they’ll glance over at it…only like 10% of us know who Persona is. Going back to what Kyokuji said earlier:

What’s your “Big Plans”? NEC?

Dark Geese I really respect your motivation but I gotta tell you:
SNK is a different story than the rest of the games.
Getting people to play SNK games is 10 times harder than getting them to play other games becuase SNK gameplay is so oldschool.

Let us compare KOF to Guilty Gear for a sec. We know both are good and assume both are fun at high level.
But what newcomers think?
Lets wear the newcomer glasses and find out:
Guilty has a really dynamic combo system. As a noob i can’t do the really good and flashy stuff yet but I can atleast do some basic combos so I’m having fun. The game is very quick paced and fun to watch too. All the basic stuff are easy so I can jump right into the action right from the start.
Now lets look at kof… Shit i can’t even move here! Small jumps seem so important and I feel so crippled since it’s so hard to get used to performing them. And the combos… Every character has like only 2 combos and not only I need to be really close to perform them, but they require super strict timing, and fuck it they don’t look nearly as flashy as they are hard :frowning:
Taking off the newcomer glasses
Samurai Shodown is even worse… I can’t imagine someone watching a tenka match vid and thinking “omg this looks so much more exciting than marvel!!!”

SNK games do a really shitty job in making the game fun at all levels of play, compared to non-snk games.

Judging from my experience with SNKers (not from this site, people I know personally), if they didn’t already grow up on SNK, what got them into SNK in the first place was the love for the characters, so you should really build on that. And push KOF XI the hardest, since it’s the least oldschool game of SNK so far. Put all the other games you love like neowave and NBGC aside and focus on pushing XI, cuz that’s the best card in your hand for this mission. And hope that XII will be so much better in catering to newcomers.
