Why most US fighting gamers dont want to play new 2D fighters?

Is it coz they want to continue improving their skills on the games they are used to ( like 3S, ST or CVS2 ) ?

Is it coz they dont like to play a fresh new game and start discovering things on their own while playing with someone else ?

Is it coz, like Valle, they dont want to lose their awesome skills at the popular 2d fighters, and want to be at an asian level in order to finally win an evo instead of the japanese ?

Is it coz they fear of losing to a random guy the first couple of weeks since nobody will have the upperhand in a new game released ?

Is it coz they have enough comp and fun with the games they are used to, that new games dont inspire them a curiosity; to meet new people, meet new challengers, get to know a new gameplay ?

Is it coz they think they dont have the time to learn a new game ?

Is it coz they think they wont have enough comp on it, so why waste their time ?

Is it coz they dont like to play on console, like the arcade much better, but since there are few arcades with new 2d fighting games, then they dont have the opportunity to try them out and start learning it ?

I mean for me, I would play any new 2d fighting game that appears on an arcade. For example CFE. Everybody say that game is crap, and so SVC. The truth is that the majority of them havent played those games at a mid high to higher level. I wanted to play CFE, it was good the first weeks : There was comp and all, but suddenly everytime I went to FFA, then machine was deserted … what happened ?

I would like to read some opinions and get some feedback. It will be great to know what Valle, Buk, etc … top US players think about this.

I’ll tell you happened. People saw the SVC and CFE machines and then said wait a minute… there is 3rd muthafuckin Strike over there. Exactly

because they suck

They saw ngbc, rumble fish, fist of the north star too. Im talking mostly about the games that have arrived at Family Fun Arcade ( the last arcade in SoCal to have decent comp ).

I “used” to play every single fighting game 2D/3D…

When I did I’ve won national tourneys…

The questions should be-

What have you done with all the games you play?

What do you do for the community that helps players?

And last but not least who are you??

Most US fighting gamers don’t play those games because most US fighting gamers don’t have access to them.

Pretty simple, actually

yea, pretty much the same reason why a lot of people in the u.s. still don’t get into gg… despite it being considered the most popular 2d fighter alongside 3s in japanese arcades for about 3 years running now.

then again, slash did have the second most number of entrants at evo this year. so i guess things are starting to change for the good?

  1. Most everyone who plays fighting games is from one of two parties.

A: The old crowd.

B: The new crowd.

The old crowd grew up on ST, Alpha 3, just whatever came before the VS series.

The new crowd came in with the VS series and then got into CvS 1/2 and even GG.

The new crowd has to go backwards to get in with the old crowd. Years of expierence from the old tends to do away with months of browsing SRK for strats for the new.

The old crowd has to learn new bullshit to get in with the new crowd. Years of expierence from the game’s roots of the old is done away with months of browsing SRK for strats for the new.

So the two parties are constantly attacking each other, trying to balance themselves out, when all these other games come in to offer equal ground for either of them, a fresh start.

But they’re still fighting, thus the new games don’t get anywhere.

And in the end everyone loses.

OH GOD ITS SUCH A SAD STORY.

The end.

;_;

Why did you stop playing them ?

I came to the US like 4 years ago and it hasnt been an easy road ( Im not a citizen or a resident , go figure ). Dont jump to conclusions please, I didnt mean to talk bad about american players, I just wanna know their points of view.
If I had a decent job, an equal opportunity as the rest of the citizens, or residents here, and so in the process make more money having the resources to help this new fighting game community grow, I would do it.

Thx for your opinion.

I dunno, I’d be willing to give CFE/CFJ a second chance, but I don’t know anyone that plays it. At least it would be a slight change of pace. oh well.

Camelot Arcade ( SoCal ) used to have hot comp on weekends for many games … now its deserted coz of bad management, having only GGXX ( not even reload ) … and SVC on a 2 token setup … sad.

Nice POV.

We all know the american arcade seen is dying ( is already dead … dunno ). But who is to blame ? … arcade owners/managers ? … or people not willing to play the new games they bring ? I bet some owners lost some money bringing the american crowd new 2d fighters by having them only as part of their arcade decoration. I guess they are not willing to get new games and gamble to see whether they will get a good response from the players or not. Why gamble ? … Its better to play safe and just keep the games they already have right ? ( thats what some think, if not all ).

If u lived in Socal I would definitely play you

The main reason I stopped playing was because of arcade competition.

Arcades are nearly extinct throughout the US…

You can talk to many EC players that have NO arcades anywhere from 50-100+ miles away.

WC does have some arcades but even still not all of them have “new” games…

The ones that do have like what 5 people playing those new games at most…(i’ll give you that even tho thats high balling)

Look at the numbers for national tourney turnouts for new games today…small

The old games are old but quality…huge turnouts

You want people to play games or wonder why everybody doesnt play…

Do something about it…

See you when GGX Core(would play slash but will be dead game soon) and VF5 comes out…

<< plays where the comp is…

  1. ^^^ That.

  2. I don’t have the money to throw around for new console games, so I keep playing the ones I have.

  3. I go where the comp goes. Around these parts, CvS2 gets the most play, so that’s what I play.

  4. I play what god tells me to play, and Guilty Gear is THE DEVIL.

But if the top US players wont give new fighting games a chance, how are these games supposed to get comp ?
People follow the top cats. They think that if the top players play a certain new game, it must mean because that game is good or at least worthy of trying. I bet that if you start playing clay fighter or street fighter 1, people will play that too.
Instead of playing where the comp is, why not play to create one ?

uh hell no

i just cant take new games seriously, because im not wasteing my time at something random, and the people that make new fighting games just do it for the money for the market, they have no level of knowleadge of making a fighting game with srk tactics and wisdom of competitive level of gameplay.games like, dragonballz, ssbm,i cant see any person sitting in front of there tv for 5 hours in trainin, call thereseleves getting good.

Thats why I play every fighting game there is and I know how to play it, even if it sucks!!!

If I got to an arcade that has some comp for certain fighters, I can easily switch to any fighter and face people.

Some players are Fighting Game Conservatives, meaning they will only play that specific fighter or fighters made by one company and nothing else, and if there is no comp, they leave fast.

So far I play HnK, KOFXI, VF4 and some 3s because those are the only ones that people play in the arcade I go to nowadays, but if I see some good comp on another fighter I’ll join if

The only thing I wish I could do is join tournies, but I can never join tournies because its always on a Sat., I always work on Sat.:arazz:

People could care less what games I’m into…

And lets be real…there are games we play and there are others we laugh at…

You want to take the BS games seriously?? Knock yourself out…

I’m going to be stupid and ask what you think of Melty Blood Alex, if you’ve even come across it that is.

D:

Alex has a nice thread in the pac. south forum, invinting old and new players to play popular US games, but i wonder what if someone would like to play a new game that caught their attention, and also they havent played that game.
For example I can invite people to my pad, they can bring any game they want, or we can find a way to find it, and we can play for hours, discovering new stuff, new combos, new setups , etc … If both guys havent played that game before or have low experience with it, I think no one will have the upperhand and both have equal opportunities of beating each other, while having fun.
I would love to play ANY new fighting game that makes it to the US ( Im talking mainly import games from asia ) with anyone thats willing to learn about that game and enjoying themselves.

I’m surprised nobody has said this yet. It’s because most people are Capcom fanboys. Duh.

Why will Suikoden never be a mainstream RPG? Because most RPG players are Square-Enix fanboys.

Why would Madden have been the undisputed top football game? (even if they didn’t get the exclusive rights) Because most sports game players are EA fanboys.

Why will people resist playing anything but archaic Street Fighters until they die? Because most of the people who play 2d fighting games are Capcom fanboys.

And you can’t forget about the whole time-tested thing. I mean, you can always say “Oh, well I’m the world’s best Warcraft 1 player” and people will just say “…so what? Why aren’t you the best Starcraft player?”
