Kof 2002…King of Fighters NeoWave…
fucking dumbassses.
the reason guilty gear players are so “different” is because the game has been promoted in the states differently than other games.
if it has grown it’s popularity through anime conventions, what kind of people would you expect to play that game?
Where as SF or any other Capcom gave given it’s history has always been promotede with a more open promotion.
that’s why Guilty Gear Gamer’s stand out, it’s not something bad, it’s just a different crowd, for a new game, for a different generation.
KoF is a pre-established game though, with its own prejudices already. It’s not like with 3s, where people were already playing Capcom games and just didn’t know enough about it. Most people in the community have already made up their mind on the KoF series (pretty much SNK as a whole), so even new KoFs aren’t getting the cross-over audience that even Guilty Gear or another game might get.
NeoWave is in the same boat. People already decided on KoF as a series, and if they wanted to be playing that they would be already.
N
The most played fighting game right now is probably DOA4 in the states…
Tekken and Guilty Gear are next…
Then you have the Capcom games.
Last but least is SNK (joking Dark Geese)
There are 3 fighters out there i never played. Arcana heart, Spectral vs generation, and fist of the north star. Hopefully they get a US ps2 release so people can play them more. Cause most people wont import it.
VF5…sorry…no matter how good of a score you get in mags i hate you!!!
I think the original topic was about people who actually play fighting games and not the casual crowd. If it were then you could throw SC in there as well. As far as the fgc goes the most played game would most likely be 3s, then tekken and everything else after.
No one plays anything new, becuase the old games are that good and becuase the new games are just rehash of the same shit.
Well then why do more people play KOFXI than the other KOFS?? We got people looking into it more than the other KOFs and now KOFXI is borderline Major status!!!
But people in general do not understand that by them choosing to be stubborn and stick to their old fighters they are helping accelerate the doom of 2d fighters…so then I can gladfully thank all you stubborn people when 2d fighters cease to exist…
Hell that is probably what they want deep inside…because then they will have all the excuse in the world to
“Play their old fighters” because then technically it will be “All thats left.”
God I hate stubbornness…:annoy:
And wait a minute…if people don’t like playing rehashes of the same shit as you say then please tell me why the hell are they chomping at the bit for all these “Capcom Classics Collections” and Street Fighter Anniversary Collection and Alpha Collection and Hyper Fighting??? WTF??
If those arent rehashes I dont know what is.
I agree people have made up their mind on the games…they have chosen to be prejudice, and some have chosen to be snobby and wave their noses in the air…don’t believe it exists, I do…because I use to get it all the time hence I did start playing Capcom games for that purpose…to prove to these snobby holier than thou my shit don’t stink types that I can play your games TOO.
Play more NGBC

Oh yeah?
Well everything is a re-hash of ST.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
D:
2D fighters wont die!!! Cause Japan plays them!!! they will just eventually fade out in the US and be more underground than it is now!!! Cause i ask most gamers on Xbox live playing DOA4 or any gamer i meet in person do they play street fighter…they say i USED TO BACK IN THA DAY…Dont know what it will take to get new gamers into 2D fighters actually with all the Halos and world of warcrafts out there…
Err, the same reason we play 3s instead of Second Impact. It’s a better version of a game we would already be playing anyway. That’s the thing, it’s not “stubbornness”, people just made their decision already on that game. KoF at heart is still KoF, if I just don’t prefer the way that game plays it’s not prejudice, it’s a personal choice. I like the way 3s feels, I don’t like the way KoF feels. It’s not a bad game, just not for me.
Because there’s no perfect home version of any of those games yet. It’s not a rehash, it’s a game people have been wanting to play again for a long time that is relatively inaccessible.
N
But once again yes your preference is your preference i am saying you people do not understand what your actions are doing to the community as a whole.
Hell I almost HATE 3s everyone close to me knows I can’t stand the game BUT hence you see I play it I enter tournies for it I am entering one this weekend? So see I see it on a bigger scale I see it about supporting 2d games and fighting games in general because its all about survival now, either we all stick together or WE DIE TOGETHER.
And some of you are content with dying with your beloved Street Fighter franchise which arguably is already dead and I’m sorry but thats a low down dirty shame. Wake up it AINT THE END OF THE FUCKING WORLD…
There are other fighters out there…stay stubborn once again and Bite the hand that feeds us…
Do you wanna bite the hand that feeds us? Keep refusing to support the scene by being stubborn and refusing to change or even look at others really and SNk and others like Sammy will stop feeding us 2d fighters…then where will that leave us all??
Once again “Dont bite the hand that feeds us.”
I dont like 3s once again remember that, but I enter tournies for it remember that’s the difference between me and most people…
Dark geese-i like your ideas and you really look passionnate but i find you got strange choices of games establishment(neowave??)
I think what Thongboy is saying is that people don’t hate SNK games it’s just not for them/tier style of a fighter.
In the end though, isn’t that against the whole point? We play these games for fun, there’s no reason we should pretend to like a game just to get numbers up. Why on earth would I take the time to get good at a game I don’t enjoy playing?
I can’t see taking any enjoyment in competing against people who don’t even like the game we’re playing. Why should I bother competing against a bunch of people who aren’t good at my game? It’s about quality, not quantity. I’m all for people taking an interest in a new game and taking their sweet time getting better at it, please do. But if there’s no interest in the first place that person will never be any good, and there’s no point for me to play against them. I’d much rather play against a newb who wants to learn than someone who just showed up to fill the bracket.
You shouldn’t have to force people to like your game. I wanted more people to play 3s, so I made entertaining videos to teach them how. If 400 people watched a video, maybe 40 of them picked up 3s that day. That’s plenty enough though, isn’t it?
Where would I even start learning KoF? You say you want new players, but if I magically decided to play KoF today there’s no reference for me to start from. How would new people even know how to get into it? SRK didn’t sprout up overnight, they toiled and struggled and now there’s finally (almost) a payoff. Show me a KoF tourney half as big as Evo, hey? Evo makes people want to play SF, how are you showcasing KoF besides beckoning people over at a local arcade?
That’s the thing, yo. There’s no exposure, there’s no entry point, and there’s no new interest. If 100 new KoF players showed up today, 96 would wander away before they all figured out where the hell to go from there. You gotta lead the water to the horse sometimes instead of the other way around.
N
Third Strike sucks!
D:
dark geese has a good point.
being divided is being weak. events being held should feature alot of games not just one so they will cater to more people, and will make people aware of other games. spread the knowledge and unite instead of being divided over personal tastes.
so dude#1 loves KOF and dude#2 loves MBAC and dude#3 loves 3S. it doesn’t matter since as long as none of these games are popular as counter strike or something, all 3 dudes have the same common goal.
that is tournie wise.
internet wise thongboy got it pretty well.
and the shoryuken wiki doesn’t work when you need it we need a different source…
That’s perfect if you have a bunch of people for each individual game, but that’s never the case. People like similar games, so if you want to fill the bracket you hold games that you know they’ll enter. 3s tournies go well with Marvel and CVS2 because there’s lots of cross-playing. If you get 64 for 3s you know at least 16 of them are good for Cvs2 or Marvel, and vice versa. How many Tekken players are guaranteed to play Marvel? How many KoF players can you count on to enter Guilty Gear?
Tournies aren’t easy to run, and they’re much more likely to get cancelled if you try to cater to everyone at the same time. 8 people for each game isn’t a good turnout, even if you have 5 different games to compete in.
N
no no i didn’t suggest to make a tournie you know you won’t have enough players for.
what i mean is that people may come to an event for a 3S tournie maybe, but will it kill you to put in some GG in the casuals alongside 3S?
events shouldn’t be just “come in, win/lose tournie, go home”.
Yes but guess what TB, that doesnt stop me from trying.
Hence I introduce you to my Eye of the Ragin Storm thread…where I am travelling to different states and I dont care if Im holding an 8 man tourney I am still gonna do it regardless…
It is my goal to put these other games on the map and get more people playing them and counteract all these beliefs etc.
I mean geez Tb do you play Samurai Shodown V/Tenka? If so Me wonders why you got that Mina Avatar of yours that you’ve had arguably since day one.
Hey Cavern Mantis- I love all my SNK brethren games, 2002 and NeoWave included I love em all…
How do I counter this Capcom Big three?? Yes by having the SNK Big Three, Lets see KOFXI-Sam Sho Tenka-Neo Geo Battle Coliseum…cross breeding all right…if they play one they more than likely play all three…
And I agree with Tataki 100%.
good point
when i used to go on xboxlive and try-out the KOF series online. I would practice in training mode, hit up gamefaqs, hit up orochinagi forums and shit for about a week or so, get some decent strats, BBs and what not. Then go online and get raped by shit I had never even seen before. That lasted about a month until it became a chore to find a match. Almost every time i played a KOF 2k2/3 I saw something that blew my brains out, like ‘howd he do that’. Then i would spend days trying to figure it out and usually fail. If there were tutorial videos out for KOF like their are for 3s (by the way thanks TB) that would have helped me out alot.
Basically; it was just very difficult to find the info i was looking for with these games.
but i can already hear the retorts;
‘learn the game, scrub’, ‘i never had anyone hold my hand…’, blah blah whatever
but my point is: if tutorials like this were readily available to the average gamer maybe would that help any?
of course we have precedence with the brady games guide and anniversary collection. That guide was like 5 years of compiled tried and true strats (cant get much better than that), and i remember seeing a couple in the stores. Did that make any impact? probably not much although the xbox live scene for that is still relatively healthy
i dont know
