Why is the Namco PS1 stick so great?

Man that stick is fcking ugly. I had 2 of those, one in box and the other w/o box. I give that one way for free since no one wanted to pay 30 dollars for it or 20 too. Joystick is garbage not even close to namco stick. The buttons are stupid as hell and the location for the stick and buttons plus the turbo in the lower middle makes this whole stick horrible. The only good thing about this stick is the pcb which is good to replace for customs. The case does have slant like Namco but poor design of the location for parts to be.

Dude, you sound completely mad - swimming in Namco sticks has obviously clouded your judgement!

The only difference in shape is that the back of the Namco case is slightly rounded and it has a lip running around the bottom of the shell.

For me that stick not even close to namco stick at all. But hey u like that Hori FS and that’s ur opinion and i respect that. But for me Hori FS and Namco arent same as case, buttons, joystick or pcb. I was going to mod my 2nd Hori FS but it wasnt worth the problem.

No, that Hori stick does look ugly, and the turbo, start, select buttons can prove to be unweildy.

Take a look at the Virtua Stick High Grade, the modern evolution of the Namco stick.

I’m genuinely surprised that people can find the look of a dull grey case with yellow buttons more aesthetic than a shiny black case. But hey, I’m a tramp so not one to complain too much.

I still stand by my claim that the stock FS:PS joystick is better quality than the bog standard joystick found in a Namco. And the PCB is much more usable not being soldered on top of the buttons. Definitely recommend modding both sticks though with the Datel PCB’s if looking for cross platform compatibility at a cheap price & little effort.

My baby

Quick question, is it much effort to mod this with a baton top instead of a ball-top ?, like Valle has with his TE ?. I grew up on those type of sticks so I prefer em.

The thing is. Namco stick is streamlined. It has 6 button placement. That hori FS stick is not streamlined at all, the buttton placement looks ugly on it, and takes up the whole panel. And the turbo is also in a stupid place. There’s too much going on.

But I still think Namco is way over hyped. I have a namco modded and I don’t use it. I find the shell is too light for lap play. . And when you hit directions you feel the vibration of the force of hitting the switches through the whole case. It’s not sturdy enough.

Not at all. You just need a Sanwa bat top and thread adapter.

Agetec are better.

Wait there were two sales? But I had to go to sleep… unfair ;_;

my 2 cents:

Namco Sticks are slightly overrated. It definitely doesn’t worth more than $50 and doesn’t deserve the hype it gets.

For a stock stick, the parts are pretty good. Buttons are equivalent to the Seimitsu PS-14-G with the usual generic hori stick. The stock stick may be the same as the ones found in the non HRAP horis, which is not bad at all (better than the generic madcatz se parts). However, the old Namco buttons are better than any of the new Hori stock buttons which dies out quick. The case is not bad, but I prefer something heavy like the Madcatz TE stick.

Its not bad for $50 used, but its only for ps1/ps2. It’ll cost another $30 for a converter, which you might as well buy a madcatz te stick since they always go on sale.

I got my hands on one via a trade with a friend, but will I sell it back out? Hell no. I’ll just let it sit on the shelf and collect dust while watching other people jack up the price on theirs.

Good collector item, but thats about it.

Sleep is for the weak. Namcos are at stake here man! Just bought my first one yesterday, should be here next week.

To each his own, sticks are all about preference, but I really don’t think they are going to go any higher in their value. Best of luck to you and your Namco though.

You clearly haven’t seen some of the buy it now eBay prices in the UK:

It really is GGM business.

Doesn’t mean it’s not overpriced. At the same time that is being sold as brand spankin new. That’s not going to increase the value of all the used ones out there.

this stick is only urban legend
case - max 20$

I have two. My honest only real two complaints is

  1. the paint is prone to coming off at some eventual time, and boy it’s not pretty when it does.
  2. the cable could stand some more stress relief at the point where it comes out of the case…

Speaking of which, I’ve let my brother borrow mine, but he wrapped the cable going under the stick instead of going over it, and now i’m paranoid of the cable fraying from bending at a point so close to where it exits the case. =o=

I have another Namco modded with a JLF and PS-14’s, but in all honesty, I like the stock namco buttons better, and somehow, the JLF feels a lot stiffer almost to a fault (perhaps the shorter shaft?). Alas…

sigh… am I really becoming a collector now? Namco stick for Lost? Nah, I’ll stick, heh get it, to what I currently have.

how the namco balltop compared to a sanwa jlf?

Owning a Namco stick is a novelty today. That is why it is overhyped.
