Damn JDM, giving up a Namco, even for a greater cause, that’s pretty rough. How much did you pay for that stick?
I’ve been eying these sticks for a long time. I loved the Dreamcast Agetec, and that was my favorite. Until I purchased my first Namco haha. I never had realized the case was on an incline, and that’s what did it for me. The light weight and great size. Just all around perfect. That and the vintage look to it. So sexy.
I don’t know how many I plan on owning. I just want to try and restore some to look brand new, and try some ideas that I have in my head. I’m waiting to hear back from Arthong, I want to see if he will make a replacement bottom panel for these. I would prefer a metal replacement, and am looking around to see if someone could do this. But a plexi would be better than nothing for those completely rusted out bottoms. I am going to see if it’s possible to craft a bezel for it as well, like the TE. I think that might look hot. Just some random ideas I have in my head.
I am attempting to restore them to new, and i have some ideas to try a few new things out. Going to get some vinyl dye, and looking to talk to some metal crafting companies to see if i can get a brand new bottom panel template. As well as looking into getting a bezel made for them. I just have a lot i really want to do.
Looks like you beat me to it, seems like you live up to your handle. Grats, I had just walked away from the computer to hook my DC up to test out the Namco that had came in today.
Meus if you ever have anymore that you want to get rid of at prices like that, let me know. I don’t intend to rape these things.
It’s all a lie perpetuated by meus so that he can a) claim that his large collection of Namcos means something b) make a boatload of cash selling them.
<3 JDM.
The Namco stick? Extremely small and portable! These little controllers are crack rocks to collect.
It’s also a very good challenge to dual mod while doing wire management and have everything customized in such a small shell with little space to work with.
Tiny Asian hands for the win! :3
Damn netwrkingpuppy, talk about tight. I’ve dual modded my TE and I j
thought that was a bitch haha. That might be fun to do to one of my Namcos though. Maybe just get a paewang pcb though and rj 45. That and an optical. Pimpness. Good work though, I’m very impressed.
Even with all the FG craze and 150$+ retail sticks these days, none can offer these features. There doesn’t seem to be much market for a design like this anymore, if anything it seems like 6 buttons is a distant memory, and sticks just seem to be getting bigger and bigger.
The VLX is a great example of this- seems to be where things are headed. More huge, more buttons (does hori make a stick now without the start button on the main panel?), more expensive.
Most players these days seem to prefer this (TE, HRAP V3SA, etc), so don’t worry if you don’t.
Anyways, the point isn’t that the stick has the most features or has the most exotic parts, it just offers a design that isn’t being catered to anymore.
Namco sticks = overrated and mediocre at best. Definitely way over priced when you’re essentially paying for stock Hori parts. In good condition, not worth any more than £40.
The stock PCB motherboard is also pretty brass - large and directly soldered to the buttons, which makes it uncomfortable for dual modding & upgrading to Sanwa/Seimitsu parts.
I’ve always preferred the Hori FS:PS, which has the same shape which people seem to like so much, but comes with a more mod friendly PCB motherboard. The stock joystick is also better quality which comes with leaf microswitches. And being a black shell, it looks that extra bit sleeker. One I upgraded a few months back:
