I keep seeing people refer to this Namco PS1 stick as one of the best sticks you can own. What makes it so great? Is it commonly modded? I found one for $20 but I don’t even have a PS1 anymore. I use a b/c PS3 and a 360 and have pretty much all the fighting games worth owning between them. Can’t see why I would want/need the Namco one. Thoughts?

I don’t know why everyone goes mad over this stick tbh. I think it’s just because it’s portable, has slanted design and it looks nice.

People go dick over the Namco for some reason.
The Joystick is just a regular Hori Joystick.
Found in other Hori Fighting Sticks.
For real, same parts.
It is weird that people replace Hori Joystick in other.
But for Namco, they keep.
People say there is difference in feel.
But that is because the Spring is old and Grease is too.
The Microswitch is the exact same found in other Hori Fighting Stick.
The ONLY cool thing about Namco is the Slim Case and 6-Button.
The Buttons themselves are cool too, because they look like Seimitsu PS-14-G, but are able to use Sanwa SW-68 Microswitches.
The stock Microswitches are Tokai Communication MM9-1, and that is good because TKC is what Seimitsu use in all there Buttons.
The Namco Arcade Stick is my favorite actually.
It is for the reasons of cool above.

And I use Hori Joysticks myself.
I have Arcade Sticks with Sanwa and Seimitsu, but I continue to use just Hori.
I don’t mind people liking or hating Hori Joystick.
I just think it is stupid that people like the Hori Joystick in Namco and not Hori Joystick in others, when they the same.
I like it b/c of the slim design, angled & metal top panel. Oh yea, the 6-button layout rocks!..Then I sold it to a local SRK member for ~$75, haha!

Not all of the joysticks in the hori sticks are the same as the namco. For instance the ones in the hori fighting stick 2 are quite different. They have no restrictor gate.
They have some weird giant circle thing.

What are we selling sticks now, because i’d buy one for $20 in a heart beat (I’d have to pull from savings, but tis a small price to pay).
I’d attribute a few things to the Namco’s popularity
- It was very likely THE best stock stick you could obtain in it’s time, and likely held that indisputable title until the advent of the HRAPs.
- The form factor is minimally small, while still completely comfortable and functional. Great for travel.
- PSX controllers have converters for pretty much every relevant console in the last decade.
- The stick and buttons do honestly feel better than the average Hori. And I’d say they can compete with Sanwa and Seimetsu’s. I’ve used both, and I can confidently say the stock Namco parts have a real feel of their own.
- Even at the inflated prices, they’re still cheaper than TEs or HRAPs.
But yeah. I’d nab another one if I wasn’t saving money this summer for a convention. =^=

Sorry everyone, I already purchased this stick. Got it for a total of $26.95. This brings me up to 4 or possbily 5 now. This stick has attracted me like nothing else. I can’t wait to get to work on them and show you all what I can do.
