Why is SNK vs Capcom Chaos a "bad" game?

Look at iori, kyo, terry, kasumi, some of the shotos moves, ryo and there are a few others. Just horrible animation. They did do a decent job with hugo and sim, but all the other characters are severly lacking in the animation dept.

I was exaggerating the exact amount of frames. But I think you know what I mean (about Sagat’s fierce). There’s a start up frame, then the punch magically launches forward. It looks bad.

*Even post KoF 99 looks like shit. Try standing HP. WTF IS THIS AWKWARD LOOKING POS??!! I HURT YUH WIT ME TWO FRME PINCHIEEE!!! *

CFJ is no where near as bad as SvC.

One other thing to consider, SvC was supposed to be released years ago. This game if freaking old, like almost CvS old.

Hit detection is by far the most horrible thing about the game, the the GFCS, the stupidly easy infinites, the god awful throwing system, the overall look of the game and even some of the characters.

Dude, KOF animation aint bad at all. It’s just inconsisntnt. Do Terry’s CD attack in KOF98-99, and you’ll see some real fluidity here. Do Andy’s rdp+K move in 2002. There are some good animations. But some other are real ugly though. Andy’s CD attack in 98 makes me cry.

Now on SVC. Demitri looks awesome. Bison looks like shit. Violent Ken looks cool, good shading. etc. it’s all about inconsistence. We got sprites from 96, 99, new sprites that are super shaded, turtle wax style, etc.

But yeah whatever. I’m not a graphic whore, so the most important for me is the gameplay. And the hit boxes/balance really sucks, so the game sucks. Period.

I acknowledged that as the King of Fighter games went on, so did the quality of animation. Terry’s CD attack you mentioned was added in a later King of Fighter. It hasn’t existed since the beginning.

And I think Kyo is one of the best examples of these inconsistencies. All of his new moves look decent, but all of his normals (which have never been updated) look really, really bad. Even after applying two different outfits, SNK refused to change the amount of frames, so it looks bad no matter what outfit Kyo is wearing.

LOL, Jae i want your AV

Chun’s walk animation in CvS2 is ugly as fuck. It’s like they just randomly cut out frames from her 3s version with absolutely no concern for fluidity.

Japan has a LOT of fanboys.

Oh and let’s not forget "all my special moves are actuly supers Athena "

Actually Japan isn’t that big of a fan of the game either. Super Battle Opera, the major tournament of japan, usually holds tournaments for most of the newly released fighting games. SvC Chaos, even though it was the newest game at the time, was never included because of the suck factor. Heck… even CFE was included and it’s not that great of a game.

Opinions are definitely different in Japan and America. Japan loves VF4. America loves MvC2. However both countries love Tekken 5.

SvC sold partially because of story crap(fanboys), partially because of scrubs, and mostly because of combo freaks.

I know I bought it because I thought there was no way this game could be as bad as reported.

Well I was right, it was worse.

I guess you can say that SVC looks better than CFJ provided that they you SNK graphics. But its simple comparing Capcom graphics to SNK. CVS featured SNK characters with capcom graphics and vise versa with SVC. Im kinda big on SNK games (mainly KOF) and although the graphics are very lackadasical the artwork is great!

There is definetly a big problem with the tiering in this game. Top tier can only fight top tier with the mid tier characters having a very large handicap in the priority margin in which case top tier exceeds greatly in this department.

Like someone mentioned earlier grabs are virtually a useless strategy in this game because it whiffs so easily, plus you lose a substancial amount of meter at the cost. The best way it can be utilized is if you dash exceed (or whatever its called) and do it, but even then if I remember correctly it can be teched, even off the safest limbs. I THINK 1/2 a frame to full frame limbs are techable after grab attempts.

It could of been a good game if it wasnt rushed, and thats the only logical explanation I can give for an obviously sluggis and sloppy fighter.
Personally I dont like nor dislike the game, but I tollerate it on its mere points of lacked frames, hilarious appearance of most of the SF cast ie:(Bison,Sagat,Guile) and just simply the fact that its so bad that you cant help but to laugh.
lol

Akumas fun though!

SvC looks like shit. And not only in comparison with CFJ, but with G:motw.

It’s the same that with CFJ, tha game is actually a step backwards.

there is no way that cfj looks worse than scv chaos.

there’s cvs2, red earth and sf3 sprites in that game and there is no way you can compare svc chaos to that.

yea it looks inconsistent but really svc looks worse and I like the sprites

i like vega especially it’s one of his coolest incarnations… he doesn’t lose his claw or mask and his wall jumps are the most abuseable they have ever been (one of which has almost no recovery).

Eat me. MOTW>>>>>>CFE>SvC>Superman 64>>>>>>>>>You.

Most of the sprites from SvC look pretty good, it’s just that they have to move and the actual animation is really bad.

The reports of bad control are grossly exaggerated. You can adjust to the control. I played the game twice and I was able to pull off all moves after resolving some timing issues.

Now, the gameplay? Bland. Imagine ST but without depth. That’s how it plays at the beginner level. I never played at a higher level, but apparently it involves GCFS, Chun Li’s crouching B into super, spamming Sonic Booms, using Tessa’s trap, being a cheap ass with Zero, and doing infinites with Zero and Geese.

The one example of bad hit detection I can remember is when I was jumping in with Sagat’s roundhouse, and Ken threw a fireball. I’ve seen this situation plenty of times, and in other games what happens is that I hit Ken, but land on his fireball. Not in SvC. Somehow my jump-in failed to hit Ken, but I still landed on his fireball to take a hit. Think about the positioning that would require. How can I be so low to get hit by a fireball but not hit Ken’s head? I would have to be pretty close to Ken at the time the fireball was thrown or else I wouldn’t have landed on it.

I think Bison’s Psycho Crusher is the epitome of the bad hit detection in SvC. I mean, at point blank range, it will sometimes go RIGHT THROUGH THE OPPONENT! :wtf:

Huh? I was not dissing MOTW asshole I love that game. People have to learn to read.

I was just stating that the game is a stepback from earlier SNK stuff, like MoTW.

the hit detection crappy roster minus mr. karate and bad/odd control for certain chars, is why it is hot shit, plus the super system was pretty stupid.
