what is hitbox detection…it is like respond time or what?
Well, say you (as the player) chucked out an attack. You would realistically assume that the limb of the character you’re playing would cause impact/damage upon touching the other character’s body.
Sloppy/bad hit detection is when an attack will hit air, yet still land cleanly on the opponent.
All 2D fighting games use what are called hit boxes. These are placed around limbs and if the opponent is to come into contact with these hit boxes, impact will occur.
No 2D fighter to date has used pixel perfect hit detection; instead opting for hit boxes that are square/rectangular/circle in nature around a specific limb.
Anyway; from what I hear, the hit boxes are out of whack in SvC; where limbs will hit air, yet still register as a solid hit.
Really brings me back to the Alpha 3 days where limbs would just downright fly right through each other. That was another problem all together.
GCFS?
I play it at the arcade sometimes and the only comps do is abuse fireballs and dps. There is practically no way to stop a dp.
I’ve heard that Chun’s attacks can stuff some Dragon Punches. She is also able to air throw some opponents out of Dragon Punches. Can anyone say broken?
I strongly disagree. Even a vintage Groucho Marx short film looks better than SVC. The game also skips animation alot so it looks choppy and the rounds/KOs/attacks seems rushed and unfulfilling to play/see.
At least CFJ and CVS2 have flashy backgrounds or endings after a KO. In SVC it’s “KOyouwinround2fight!”:wtf:
The new characters in SvC look really good. They animate well, but it’s difficult to see given the speed the game runs at. Generally, the new sprites (Chun, Demitri, Zero, Hugo (? I think it’s just the SFIII sprite painted over in SNK style  )have a generous amount of frames. Again though, the game runs hella fast, so it’s hard to notice all the elaborate frames.
The old sprites/characters look like complete and utter shit. We got KoF 96 Kyo and Geese, looking as smooth as week old dried bread; Kasumi with her magical cement pants; Kim with those awful stubby pre-KoF 2002 kicks; Mai with all her choppy not-upgraded-since-KoF-96 frames; Iori and his mismatched sprites that apparently SNK will never complete; and the list goes on. Kyo/Mr. Karate got a new uppercut frames; but it just serves to distance the new graphics even farther from the older ones, as the clothes suddenly get quite “fluffly” during the new Dragon Punch; then they get as stiff as ever when he lands.
It’s no better than the graphical slop fest that is CvS2, honestly.
Time_Stop, I <3 u. And to elaborate, it seems to me, people have a problem with SvC’s style of visual (KOF’s sprites/shading). Because almost every KOF/KOF related game that comes out, people bitch about how “outdated” it looks, and then gasp in aw at Guily Gear sprites like their the pinacle of sprite-dom. Its like, the less detail, the “prettier” in some eyes.
One thing bugs me about the roster: All those shotos/shoto-like characters and no Sakura?
I don’t know who those people are, but they’re terribly retarded. King of Fighter games have generally been about key frames. Since the hardware didn’t allow a lavish amount of frames to be created, SNK kept with the bare minimum. If they didn’t need to, you better believe they didn’t go beyond three frame light punches.
This began to change with older King of Figthers. Whatever the reason, it doesn’t matter since Angel is by far one of the most gorgeously animated sprites I’ve ever seen.
As for the comment on the sprite style themselves; now that SNK have done high res; we can see that it has nothing to do with style but actually with size. The current size of the King of Fighter sprites allow a gradual shading without looking disjointed; the opposite is true with the high res Rebout (94) sprites. It doesn’t help matters that these are key frame affairs as well.
Say what you will about CFJ, but don’t diss CvS2. With the exception of Morrigan, everything else about it is fine.
Hah, so everyone looks like they fit in SvC, eh _Stop? My ass. You’ll do anything to defend SNK, won’t you? The only good looking characters are Demitri, Zero, and Mars People. Everyone else looks like a blatant pixelated copy of their original sprites, badly disproportioned, rushed, or ripped straight from KOF. What they did to Bison is inexcusable, and every KOF character, stiff as always, looks like a wimp standing next to Chun-Li.
And just so you know Kairi, the real stigma that people have in KOF’s style isn’t in the amount of detail they put in, it’s in the way some of their characters are drawn, or rendered on such crappy hardware. High-textured or not, you simply can’t polish a turd, like Daimon, pre-'99 Kyo, or SvC-Bison among others.
Even post KoF 99 looks like shit. Try standing HP. WTF IS THIS AWKWARD LOOKING POS??!! I HURT YUH WIT ME TWO FRME PINCHIEEE!!!
head explodes
The only thing they reworked/tweaked was the standing animation, where Kyo methodically bounces in place. As soon as he starts trotting along though, the vomit instinctively comes up the throat.
The new sprites in CvS2 look awesome, no doubt about it. Especially Chun. But you can’t seriously think Sagat, with his two frames HP (crouching and standing) fits in at all???!? I won’t even mention the half screen Blanka. The reason the SFA charaters are top tier is because of the minimum amount of frames all their attacks use; low frames attacks=top tier. Characters like Eagle have to carefully plan that shit out, since his normals actually use more than two frames
Fucking slop fest 2001.
ummm…sagats low fierce doesnt come out in 2 frames, considering most jabs in that game come out in like 3 frames.
your hate is sounds hella misguided man, for reals.
actually it’s amazing how ppl in this thread just make up stuff and twist facts to help their argument out.
waits for someone to come in and say they like svc
if people are seriously trying to debate which game is worse between svc and cfj, svc wins hands down. cfj actually has working hit detection…and character balance is actually good, unlike svc. Even if both games are trash.
It’s all about animation. Who cares if the sprites look a little off, or there’s no detail. If the animation is piss poor, then there’s no reason to play the game. Compare CvS Iori to SvC iori, which would you rather watch throw a punch? What’s wrong with properly animating the characters in your game? Why can’t they just do the job right.
The game just fucking sucks. The engine is broken, the graphics are horrible. The whole game is crap and I really hoped for this to be a good game. I played it at target and I tryed to kill myself.
It isn’t the graphics. I don’t give a shit about the graphics. SvC has things that are ridiculously abusable thanks to the engine being pretty backwards and hitboxes being all over the place except where they’re supposed to be. The game has its saving merits, but in the end you’re really just better off playing CvS2.
The game looked amazing to me, dark, detailed, and whats this about horrible animation? Demetri’s cape sweep alone looks amazing.
People hate the “look” of this game, but as far as the look I think it’s pretty cool, a step ahead. The BG’s, however, did suck a fat one. But the sprites looked great, just not what people are used to seeing.
Shittyass game though.
Yeah, I suppose the game was rushed; I wouldn’t mind the game taking a few years and it to be incredible. I haven’t experienced the hit-bix issue personally, but I’m sure I will find in when I play this game with a little more depth. The funny thing about this game is that in Japan, it’s a best seller. Are opinions over there much different then they are here?
I think the roster is really interesting, but once the hidden characters are unlocked, it’s all over.
The game is as shitty there as it is here.
Speaking of SVC there was a huge update of SVC videos on orochinagi just now
Actually the top tier is pretty fugged up
GCFS
do you know what that is?
for .20 - .60 meter you can virtually counter any attack almost for free
you press b + c together when you block anything and you do a invincible dash foward that can be cancelled out of.
Just cancel into a throw and you get free damage
oh yea and throws suck… horrible range you have to dash and cancel the dash into a throw for it to work some times even if you are right next to the opponent and if you whiff throws it cost you meter (i think snk has something against throws… they tend to suck alot in every game… except for command throws which range from good - broken supposedly)
Anyways you can do more than just do a throw if anyone cared enough about the game they could learn to gcfs and immediately do a exceed or hyper combo or something that leads into a infinite into death or something because you can cancel into anything
GCFS is lame if you press foward + foward you do it for .20 of a meter… that’s 1/5 of a meter and it’s broken or you can do it the easy more consistant way which is b+c and it’s really free damage.
The hidden characters are broken, is there any reason to pick regular iori over orochi iori? they have everything the regulars have but more and infinite comboes in a game like sf2 or cvs2 are really really broken especially when they are easy to perform because as much as people bitch about marvel unless you are iron man you aren’t even killing one character (keep in mind that’s just 1/3 of your life)
I play this game for fun but still the only way i even semi seriously play is without hidden characters and without gcfs and even then the game has balance issues (akuma’s air fireballs = abuseable)
I wouldn’t know but i really doubt st akuma is as bad as geese and zero are, there is really nothing you can do against a semi competent geese or zero but against akuma they can still mess up and allow you to get in, but with geese or zero even if you get in what are you going to do? if you make them block almost anything they gcfs you and you can probably die and both of their aaa options are too good
