The Darkstalers ( Morrigan, and Felicia in paticular ) are known amongst gamers. Not the average person but definity amonst gamers.
And why would Capcom go out of their way to obtain the TMNT license when they have multiple fighting IP’s they could revive? Look at what Double Helix and Microsoft did with KI. I see no reason Darkstalers couldn’t be revived if they put there best effort into it and promote it.
Vampire Savior is still going strong in Japan despite being released in 1997 (probably before many here were even born, or played video games). Morrigan is one of Capcom’s most recognizable characters, everyone knows her.
Other than Capcom vs SNK 3, Darkstalkers 4 is by far the most requested fighting game among Capcom IPs.
Capcom seems to ignore it’s older fighting series such as Rivals Schools and Darkstalkers. I’m open to a new Darkstalkers.
playing DS on PSP is a torturing experience, just like SFA3 Max and GG:AC+
I tried it and it is not recommended. except for casual cpu matches while traveling
I have the Dreamcast version but it is plagued by frame lag, especially the trigger buttons. while game is playable, doing a LI or DI combo outside corner is more difficult. plus it looks too pixellated, even with VGA output. but it is the only DS game where you can select all characters and options in arcade mode, unlike the PS3/Xbox360 version.Kinda like SF HF.
regarding DS and pcsx2, a quadcore will not help. the slow speed, same with PS2 Garou, is rather an emulation issue. Hope it will be fixed sometime.
If Capcom were to finally tease a Darkstalkers at EVO’14, I’d be more concerned about the aesthetics of the game instead of the gameplay mechanics. I haven’t been much to complain about DS mechanics at all, but the art direction is what will raise eyebrows. Why? Because of SFxT. Every last one of those characters looked greasier than Hakan, and to top it off it looked like Street Fighter 4.
Is that the direction they are going for next-gen, if it’s next-gen? I would like to see this theoretical DS with a darker, ghoulish yet vivid tone palette, but with an emphasis on the animation bringing it out this time around. It should be something on the lines of KI, but Capcom style
I’d like that. But I’d also like it to keep that disney look and goofy, cartoonish attack/damage animations. That’s what I think Darkstalkers is most known for.
I would love a brand new look, engine and all that. However realistically, Felicia, Hsien Ko, and Morrigan are already in MVC3. I suspect they would use a modified SF4 engine, take those 3 models from MVC3 (which is also a modified SF4 engine).
SF4 and MVC3 definitely weren’t made using the same game engine. They also were made by two different developers…

My mistake I had heard that mv3 was a modified sf4 engine (also looks like this). Anyways the most cost effective way for capcom would be to used a modified mvc3 engine then. 3 characters completed already. I would hope for glorious 1080p hand drawn sprites in a similar style to the old darkstalker games, with animation so fluid it would put 3s to shame. However that isn’t happening. Something like what Guilty Gear xrd, 3d that looks like 2d, seems to be the most realistic hope.
Darkstalkers haven’t been appearing in too many games lately. But there are tons of porn images of Morrigan and Felicia, of course.
So UMVC3 and the Dead Rising 3 DLC never happened? And there’s tons of porn images of every character from what I’ve heard and unfortunately seen. Rule 34 applies to everyone, it ain’t just Morrigan and Felicia. Don’t let those guys paint a different picture of them for you.
You’re too naive if you think people actually cared about the appearance, I can assure you Darkstalkers didn’t get any new fans because of those games. It’s like putting Mr. Game & Watch in the Smash Bros. games.
But those characters are like, insanely popular in hentai. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if 90% people born after the '90s only know Morrigan because of the hentai and have never actually played a Darkstalkers game (and they are not interested in).
I can also agree that, from a stand point of view MvC3 has been something of a ‘Movie/entertainment teaser’. Guardians of the Galaxy has popped up, I’m sure there has been rumors of a Dr.Strange movie, Strider has a sequel, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if they announced a Viewtiful Joe and Final Fight Sequel/remake for PS4, X1 and Wii U along with DS4
Several people I’ve played in Ressurection got into Vampire Savior because of UMVC3, so that disprooves your point. If you think that’s all the serie’s is good for, kay whateves. Just take your negativity elsewhere.

Resurrection was not a huge success, that’s why Capcom’s still not considering a new game.
@Magegg Ressurection flopped ( IMO ) because.
A. Many fans already own the PS2 collection or some other port. Or play Savior on GGPO and didn’t feel the need to pick Ressurection up. Ressurection was only good for hardcore fans or avid fighting game players who never got a chance to play the games. I’m in the latter.
B. Series is 20 years old and doesn’t have the name recognition of say SF. So to expect a re-release of an obscure series that hasn’t had a game in 17 years to sell well was foolish.
When a series has been dormant for that long, and you consider bringing it back. You either take a chance or you don’t. Not play it safe with a re-release to test the waters. Imagine if Microsoft had Double Helix simply re-release classic KI with on-line play to test the market instead of an actual reboot or new installment? Sometimes you just gotta gamble you know?
I ain’t denying that Morrigan is known for her sex appeal. But for Magegg to claim 90% of people born after 2000 only know of Morrigan and Felicia via hentai vids and images is ridiculous. Their design, MVC3 and other crossovers has kept them relevant.
