Me and Hoody discussed this in another thread, but who else thinks that the characters who were in the MvC games could stand to carry some of those game-specific moves into DS4? Flight would make Morrigan not ass, Felicia could have different follow ups to Rolling Buckler, and I’d need some new pants if someone told me that Anakaris got his MvC2 air specials.
They look good now, but kids in 10 years will think they look bad. Thats the thing about doing “high tech” graphics instead of artistic graphics which have heart and will look good in 10 years.
just5moreminutes. Hey I have some unorthadox ideas I wanted to share for a new Darkstalkers. For starters IMO the series should go back to emphasising horror and monsters aestheticaly like in DS1. Vampire Savior’s gameplay is awesome but in terms of style it seems to have gotten away from that with the characters it introduced ( I still love BB Hood ) However I will say Jedah is the exception. He has a disturbing fighting style and his arcade ending is nightmare inducing. That damn baby and that scream o.O.
I feel aestheticaly that’s what Darkstalkers should shoot for. Not a uber violent game like MK which some people suggest. But a legitamitely scary, horrific fighting game inspired by classic movie monsters and legends. But with some of that Darkstalkers silliness of course.
Here’s a link to Capcom’s Darkstalkers the Night Warriors page. Look at the character select screen shot. Characters look more intimidating and scary than in Savior.
Picking up where I left off. The character portraits in the character select screen moved which was a nice touch. If a new Darkstalkers were made, new characters need to be based on a monster. We could have classic ones we missed like Godzilla, The Chupacabra, Lochness Monster. That horseman with the Jack o Lantern for a head just to name a few.
And with the Dark Force. In addition to its usual effect specific to that character, the character also transforms into a more vicious and frightening looking version of themselves. I.E Demetri in his true form or a feral and wild looking Felicia.
As for mechanics and gameplay. Build upon Savior. Savior is when Darkstalkers truly seperated itself from Street Fighter so it’s the direction the series should stay with but just make improvements. Push blocking should be simpler. No need for 3-6 button inputs for a push block, especially when it’s a critical mechanic.
( I’m on a PS3 bear with me people lol ). Continuing where I left off. Maybe a two button push block like SG. But you can use the stronger buttons to push them father but it’ll consume meter.
To keep tech hitting from burning your meter for offense they’ll be split. A meter for offense. ( ES and EX moves certain Darkforces. ) And a meter for Defense ( strong push blocks, ES guard cancels, certain Darkforces. )
And finally Def/atk ratios for meter gain. Each character will have three predetermined ratios for the rate at which they build meter for each bar you can choose from. build offense meter faster an def meter slower, vice versa, or the same rate. Your character has a EX move that causes trouble for your foe? Go more offensive and take advantage. Up against a foe who pressures very well? Go more defensive so you can tech and GC more. Or play it safe with a balanced approach.
We evidently need clowns for DS4. Legit terrifying without being too bizarre. Other ideas include:
-Poltergeist made of random shit (st.L can be a toaster popping bread)
-Giant, eerie animated Teddy Bear. HOW ABOUT A HUG, BILLY?
-Unstable T-virus/Uroborous subject with random tentacles and shit
We can invoke other types of horror tropes for a more “modern” roster. Sticking with the corny movie monsters will wind up amplifying the slapstick.
even back then non-JP releases were edited/censored.
what about Resurrection? was it edited as well? eg no blood?
did they do the same to Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure?
also was the image with naked Lilith and Morrigan hugging each other included as well?
or else game will get a 16+ rating…
Petran. Yeah Ressurection has all that in Savior. Character’s bleed and get dismembered. In Morrigan’s ending she still hugs Lilith in which she presses Lilith’s head against her breast. And the scene in the intro with naked Morrigan and Lil craddling themselves. Yep still there. All that stuff is there. You just have to watch the intro vid in the gallery to see it.
Just5moreminutes. Well I’m just saying use them for inspiration. Those classic monsters can still be made to look scary and Dark. You telling me a knight with a eerie glowing pumpkin head wouldn’t be scary? But I do agree there should be modern monsters as well. A T virus resident evil based monster, A poltergeist composed of random possed objects, A evil children’s teddy bear. That all sounds great. But don’t forget Darkstalkers originally was paying homage to movie monsters and monsters of folklore. Wouldn’t be Darkstalkers without them and a lil slapstick. Oh and one based on a Silent Hill monster like Pyramid head would definitely be cool.
Petran. Well Darkstalkers 1 stikes a good balance between horror theme while still being stylisic and a lil silly. Vampire Savior seems to be much more silly and doesn’t really resemble how Darkstalkers is a fighter that pays homage to horror movie monsters. I just want Darkstalkers to get back to that. That first game while Dark and horrific. Was uber violent and had no real fun to it aestheticaly. Can’t be completely Dark and a gore fest. That’s depressing.
