This game single handedly made me play competitive fighting games again.
to be fair, Connect 4 is a closed problem…so if he’s fast at learning patterns, he can win 100% of the time, provided he goes first.
Tekken characters feel like Tekken characters, that is a nice plus! They still have to deal with the SF zoning, but have the tools to do it.
I don’t know how they’ll make SF characters feel right in Tekken x SF, but I can’t wait to see them try!
concerning your first post, this has long been the common practice…
lol no
Just wanted to add that I’ve agreed with this for years. :-p
That said, I do think they did a good job of incorporating a lot of Tekken’s “feel” into 2D.
If people didn’t have a plan to get in on someone they would probably try to pull the “LOL RANDOM” card.
This is How I feel about it
This game was great, sure the DLC will be out later but I don’t really care because I know it will be out eventually. This game brought back the footsie gameplay that I remember from street fighter 2 series as well as Third strike. I haven’t had any issues online with co-op rather it be 2 people on the same consel or online teams for the Playstation 3, this games online has the best gameplay I’ve ever seen, the matches are lagless and enjoyable, besides the sound. Ive read that fixing it would make the game lag, since I can play with music on the Playstation 3, sound really isn’t an issue, and confirming combos is very easy in the game since the strings are longer than 2 hit combos, so needing sound to confirm isn’t really needed. I don’t agree with the gems, but I do think there fun for newer players in the series, a lot of my friends wont touch fighting games because there just that, they want a little more to the game, and Street Fighter X Tekken brought it, with the gems, 2 player co-op teams, pandora, and classic characters from the best of both worlds, the customized character section, and scramble modes, and we all should know its better to have your friends playing to. Well That is what I think about this game, thanks for reading.
Tekken feels more fluid because you can’t abruptly cancel animations mid move into others, because it’s motion captured, and because the moves are slower and more natural.
And, of course all these points can be viewed as negatives in other contexts. You could say Street Fighter is freer because you can cancel the recovery of many moves at will, it’s hand animated movements are more expressive and exaggerated, and the moves are faster.
Different strokes for different folks.
Some like 2D style, some like 3D style. Some people like me can like both. Looking forward to VF5:FS…
Something’s wrong; someone who actually realizes both series are good and that it’s fans don’t have to be diametrically opposed? You better go back to youtube and start trashing one or the other until you mend your open-minded ways.
Exactly. Though I prefer Tekken, I enjoy both. Dammit, I’m just a fan of most FGs in general, even some of the “sloppy” ones.
LOL, too true. XD
…Tekken is all about generic launchers (last I checked, 90% of launchers in Tekken 6 are 12 frames…) and redundant combo chains…
It sounds like you just don’t want to invest in SFxT, which is perfectly fine… but most of what you said against it pretty much part of every fighting game…
I like both games, so I definitely understand that there’s a clear difference, but at the end of the day a lot of what you said just seems weird to me. Could have summed it up as just “It’s not my game.” – which is kind of how I feel after leaving UMvC3 and SSF4. Like both of them, they are enjoyable to play, but SFxT kind of suits me better by comparison.
Which regards to fluidity as it compares between SF series and Tekken, of course Tekken is more “fluid” – that’s kind of a necessity of a game built around a complex juggle system.
lol, how about you do a proper research instead of saying crap?
Most hopkicks are in the 14f-16f range; most generic df+2 are either 15f or 16f. And there is also a lot of different launchers - like EWGFs and some Magic 4s (12f, both high), Ganny’s ff+1+2 (14f, and high as well), and so on. You don’t mindlessly throw a launcher and call it a day - sure, scrubs will eat a full juggle because they can’t defend and space for shit - maybe that’s where you coming from.
High level play is not even centered about only juggles - you have to play good “footsies” and be knowledgeable about the game’s match-ups.
Pretty sure I spent ample time playing and researching Tekken 6 forever ago, pardon me for getting the number wrong. Then again, its hard to keep track of or care about any of the specifics when every high level match I managed to see when getting into the game had either Lars, Bob, or both and no one else.
Thanks for getting overly defensive when I already expressed being a respectful fan of the franchise though. Classy.
EDIT: I must be thinking of jabs having standardized frames… I just remember someone I talked to early into learning T6 talking about how how every character has some move/moves with the same basic frames. /shrug/ Been forever since I cared.
Just broaden your mind a little - ie, stop watching only US “high-level play”. There’s a reason why Tekken will be absent at EVO this time: most of people just pick the easiest risk/reward characters and call it a day. If you watch japanese vids or Tekken Crash, you’ll see that things are pretty different.
Also, post-T5DR (ie, starting with T6), all character’s jabs are now 10f - except Ganryu’s lol (his fastest jab is i12).
I’ve watched a lot of Tekken Crash, actually… And a Japanese combo video is why I picked up Miguel. (EDIT) I watched some MLG and I found it intriguing, but what really got my psyched about getting into Tekken 6 was Crash and videos, Lars ended up being my favorite character just because I liked his aesthetic and movement, and it was nice seeing videos of people using other characters so I didn’t feel cheesy (like in MLG, where half of the people used Lars)
I was mistaken because I was thinking about the jab thing. I’m willing to admit being wrong.
Like I said, the lack of character variety is something more into the US than anything else - people like to be rewarded high with the minimal effort - so that’s why Lars, Law, Bob and etc ate the most picked characters.
And sorry if I was rude - but I’m tired of people here at SRK spreading shit and misinformation about the Tekken series.
Seeing all this Tekken talk is really getting me in the mood for that game. I need to hit that up again sometime this week and keep getting my Leo skills up. Argh TTT2 , why must I wait so long?
In the meantime though… the general “mindset” of Tekken does seem to carry on to this game at least a bit, though it might just be the juggling that gives me that feeling.
I’ve been jonesing for more Tekken for months. I miss playing as Bryan, his Taunt Cancel was one of the first things I ever spent hours in training mode practicing for a fighting game. I really want TTT2.
Yay for TTT2 hype! <3
Tekken may gain a lot of new blood due to SFxT - at least this piece of junk may redeem itself that way.
Also, quoting Aris: "Playing all these other games makes me really appreciate Tekken’s depth and complexity. It’s ironic that this is what also hurts the game."
People just shit on Tekken because they don’t understand how the game works. Hopefully this will change a little bit - but I’m not holding my breath.
