Why I love this game

When it rains, it pours.

…I’ll be here all night folks.

No it requires a 20/20/20/20/20 prediction on the part of the attackers part. People keep forgetting that ALL off the SF4 wake up options are still available in addition to the new options. So you got to worry about backdash, reversal, forward roll, quick rise, and other assorted options. Even if you predict the roll you have to account for what they do after they roll.

Overall in the hands of a smart opponent it is almost too easy to escape.

Some characters can make it a true 50/50 though.

Kind of? It is certainly easier to escape than SF4 quick or slow one place get up, but don’t forget that its possible to react to a roll. Its also largely riskless. Wong was running that all day once the corner was hit. Easier with rufus admittedly.

The thing that I think people should be taking away from this is that its a GOOD THING that the defender can escape. With combos sometimes cresting 500 dmg meterless and over 700 with meter, 2 b2b combos would off almost any given character.

I agree with much of this… But I think that the major things people are getting hung up about are things that feel like relief.
Oki game isn’t nearly as strong. Good. I like it better that way. Getting Vortexed by Geif every day was getting dull. Deal with it. It’s different.
Grabs are worse in this game… And yet I always seem to underestimate them, and get grabbed by some guy who still thinks this is SF4. They aren’t nearly as bad as I thought at first, and are still very effective.
Combos do a ton. Just like Marvel… And yet, the fact that they do a ton makes me glad that Oki game isn’t strong… So that this wouldn’t become 2v2 Marvel without Super Jumps. Hell, against some of the bigger damage characters, Oki game saves you from combo-reset-combo-die. Heihachi in particular seems like he’s already a pain in the ass to deal with on wakeup, and that’s with all of SFxT’s wakeup options.
Pokes are different. You know what, I’m going to go out on a limb, and say that the pokes in this game remind me of… Oh yeah, Tekken… Which is the second name on that title… Ya know, Street Fighter X TEKKEN

Some of the mechanics in this game are different, and not normal.
That’s not a bad thing.
Some won’t be able to deal with the change, and will go back to playing whatever. I have no problem with that.
The rest will adapt, as needed, and win.

And the criticisms of certain things being derpy…
There are things about other fighters we take for granted (Throw mixups, Long range Zoning, Jumping around in general) that look, and feel, derpy. I should know, I was a 3D fighters guy, who only dicked around with MvC1 and SFA every once in a while until around 2007. A lot of the major mechanics in SF2, 3, CvS2, and 4, seemed stupid, but everybody seemed to enjoy them. Crossups in general seemed like dumb crap, and despite me abusing them in this game and KOF (Balrog has no crossups, and I haven’t played 3S in a while), I still think they’re annoying.

SFxT is a different game.
Yes, the timer needs to be fixed. There is no real argument there. It doesn’t fit this game well. But I’d bet money that it gets patched.

But overall, the game feels really good to me. Is it better than SF4 yet? No. Patch a few things, release all the DLC, and let the metagame develop. Then? Very possible. Is it more enjoyable than SF4? Yes, by far. And more enjoyable then Marvel as well (Sorry guys, but Touch of death Vs. Reset 3 just isn’t my bag).

Most disappointing in years: maybe.

The most retarded: definitely YES.

I get tired of the common argument “Well since combos do so much I am glad we don’t have strong Oki!”

I think both elements are stupid and make the game derp.

Alot of my problems with the game were solved with this weeks UltraChenTV show. They really opened me up to a whole new level of game in SFxT.

There are however still things that really annoy the hell out of me. 1 being the chain launcher, I was already trying to learn some manual launcher combos before the Ultrachen show because I just find these chain launchers are ruining the fun. Theres always some total dick sitting down back with Vega just jab jab hit confirming the quick combo into some combo and then switch Vega in to do it all again during the knockdown state I can beat these idiots but they really just make it so much longer than it has to be and its what causes a lot of games to end up in TTT fights. If the game didnt have that chain launcher then it would be a much better game because people would be forced to learn and become more effective with the use of the systems.

zzz, trying to debate with people who don’t realize the difference between ambiguous opinions and facts is a waste of time. I’ll see all you guys in a year after this game most likely picks up steam, and suddenly the lemmings who can’t think critically for themselves will get on the new bandwagon.

Btw SFIV is derpy garbage cause I hurd dat. People are rewarded for retarded shit and other vague statements.I can’t win cause I play it like 3s so it’s obviously the game’s fault and not mine. I don’t need to post any examples or factual references cause that would actually make my post worth half a shit, but please get on my bandwagon anyways.

Vega’s endless crouching jab strings are annoying, but a real easy way to shut that shit down is to launcher in between them, since it basically functions as a low parry. On block from vega’s crouching jab, you have at least a 3 frame window to input a launcher, even more if he tries cr.mk/cr.mp or basically any other crouching move. Aside from that, he doesn’t have a kara-throw anymore so even though it’s frustrating, just blocking til he pushes himself far out of range if you have no reversal is okay too. And obviously alpha counters solve all ‘spamming normals’ problems, but if you can get used to using the launcher as a low parry, you shouldn’t have to waste meter for that.

I could probably kick everyone’s butt who posts on here. Adjusting ain’t my problem. Enjoying the game at the same level of SF4 or ST is.

Just because people don’t enjoy the mechanics doesn’t mean they can’t adjust. That is the major logical fallacy people love to make.

I wasn’t referring to you specifically, in fact I mean that I notice it a lot in my community. It’s funny that I was talking to a lot of guys in our scene and how they were all like “this game is great” and whatnot, and then I body them for free for like 20 games, and suddenly “man this game is garbage.” “you only win cause this game is stoopid mang.” Which is a moot point considering I body pretty much most of them in Street fighter or KOF too. People just love shifting responsibility off themselves and saying “the game is flawed.” Reminds me of the scene in A Beautiful Mind when they’re playing Go and John’s first reaction after he loses is that quote verbatim. I don’t really take a statement like that seriously when I see the players play it like it’s street fighter and lose.

Obviously like all things, whether a mechanic in it is good is subjective; I think the effective removal of the vortex and new mechanics are good, some may not, but it just annoys me when people don’t think for themselves, or can’t rationalize why they think something is stupid. It’s just a waste of a post, you might as well go on youtube and talk shit on random videos you don’t like.

Yeh like I said, I know how to deal with it but its slow and often the best way is to use valuable EX bars and once the attack it over then the Vega just starts it up again and you spend more time getting in. Its just things like that which kill the game for me and the chain launcher I find is the main reason for why this game can just be totally boring. If you get someone who doesnt just jab jab chain launch then you can have a good and fun fight but usually it doesnt happen like that.

I like how this is a ‘I love this game thread’ but most of the time it’s more like a, ‘Rant Thread’ 2.0. I thought there was a thread for that sort of thing.

Actually, I think it is Rant Thread v16 or something. Practically every thread in this forum seems to turn into a rant thread before the second page. It seems pretty clear there are a lot of very disappointed and angry people… or, as is often the case, it is a highly vocal minority who drown out everyone else. I am not sure which is the case here.

Maybe the people who make a thread about their personal feelings and thoughts should realize they’re giving the reader a chance to shit all over their tastes. It’s always going to play out this way, this is the internet not some round-table NATO discussion about saving the penguin.

For the record, fuck penguins. Penguins would kill you and me in a heartbeat given the chance. They’re probably behind all the elevated mercury content in fish now.

It’s inevitable.

well I’m tired of playing scrubs online so perhaps a set with a decent player will change my opinion of the game.

btw–I’m of the opinion that the mechanics of the game are fine (I love no comeback Ultra/hard hitting combos) but I don’t care for the way the game feels. this could probably be broken down to the game’s animations, blockstrings, and overall speed. The timing and clunky online don’t help either, especially when I paid $60 for the game. It just doesn’t feel responsive to me, even after learning more of the game. The hit confirming are still automatic (especially playing with shotos) you have to link everything into that generic launcher combo. when I see videos of Tekken Tag, I just can’t help but feel something is off in this game. It just looks and behaves so much more fluidly and responsive, which is the most important element of a fighter to me, I want to forget I have a controller, so I can always be thinking about what moves I should perform. anyway, would love to play some decent guys, had a good room with Emblem Lord the other day, but I don’t really care much for a room with more than 3 people, I don’t like waiting 15 minutes just to fight if I lose a round…

PSN Omnicloud

lotta people don’t like it bra…it’s like this every forum I goto, all my friend’s list every decent player I message on Live/PSN…Very mixed bag with this game.

Yeah, well, I think Tekken in general is more fluid than Street Fighter, but that’s a whole other discussion.

I do play on playstation but I haven’t played online in a while. I played AE/2012 on PC cause that was the best online experience but it still frustrates me. I’m lucky enough to have a pretty big fighting game scene in my city, with fight nights going on almost never day of the week so I don’t really play online to avoid building bad online tactics. I can see why you’d hate this game playing online, shit playing online makes me fucking hate Street fighter or Tekken too. But if I decide to try out PSN i’ll add you on there
