Why do you play the character you play with?

Ibuki, cuz she’s a high school ninja.

he uses one hand

No I meant oldschool.
I don’t care about stereotypes I’d even play pacman if he could kick french faggots around :stuck_out_tongue:

Gouki - because I too can be a grouch
Ibuki - kunoichis are hot.
Ken - classic SF.

…that went well.

dudley because he is the wake up king

I play Remy because he has blue hair.

Remy isn’t a keep away character if played at a high level, in fact he can pressure more than Ken if the stupid onion rings are used appropriately. Gaijinblaze is my hero, but you’re no Yellow S4.

I use every character for casual, usually Ryu because Dejin is cheap and it takes very little effort to beat someone with it. But in tournies I usually stick with Ken or switch to Chun to beat a Dudley and very rarely I might bring out my deadly Denjin Ryu if it’s a Hugo or some other lame ass character I hate playing. Hmm it’s boring but it gets the job done. Until I get my Yun to beat ACK then I’ll keep using Ken.

it’s called keep away because you use the projectiles…

to push the opponent out of there comfort range
cover there jump ins from afar
cover there dash ins from afar…

Each scored light of virtue adds a level of annoyance and let’s you take advatange of there set back.

From an aggressive stand point far projectile throws are shields/distractions for dash ins/cold blue kicks to close distance and corner opponents.

From that far range the projectiles are thrown it’s also considered zoning because Remy first clears the opponents entry to fight and leaves the ground open for only Remy to move forward/run away and reposition.

Remy doesn’t need to fight for too long up close since the only purpose is to make them block to build meter/kara throw them. After that run away/push them away and start again! But in high level Remy play its a mix of both upclose and far fighting which is something cool about Remy since he can apply pressure from ALL ranges. Though the farther Remy fights from the easier it is to react to them coming after him.

When I use Remy I play a mix of rush and zoning as well. Depends on the matchup as well. Remy has some good poke strings and his strong kara throw range allows for some good pressure up close. Of course because of Remy’s low defense and craptacular stun bar you can only do that for so long before it’s time to retreat and go back to zoning. I really like using Remy and he’s always been one of my more favorable characters (although I wouldn’t use him in a tournament or nothing like that).

Too long didn’t read

I play with Yun cause I want to. The end…

Just some thoughts… I write long so people with short attention spans don’t read and won’t reply with dumber comments than my own.

Well, I don’t consider myself super beastly or really spectacular but I’m starting to address playing Remy from a tourny point of view. The only way tourny play interests me is if people around me respect that I want to play Remy in tournaments because I like to use him. It gets kinda hard to appreciate tourny play if the players resent and belittle my character choice (making me feel like a shitty player, like I don’t belong=( ) because they don’t understand that I like the amount and certain type of thinking required to win.

From a tourny vantage rushing down like Ken is the exact opposite of what Remy should be doing (it’s rush down sorta but not like Ken’s). I assume tourny level would be the highest level right? So if you don’t take that into consideration of course people can say Remy can rush down or play aggressive… but those same people don’t even try to use him serious… =/

I think Remy becomes dangerous if you can reach a level where you can get to any range on the screen and have the choice to start something from there, it has to be the choice of the player or they lose. Then it becomes a game to pin Remy down (that’s the real fight versus a decent Remy). Most people will say it’s simple, easy shit to stop Remy… a learning tourny Remy though or casual vid ripping Remy? The character itself is so deep… the players using him are still learning what he has (it’s very technical stuff believe it or not and vids from japan Remys aren’t good enough to understand).

While you get chuns, kens, yuns, and makoto players who pretty much know everything they have to offer and are only becoming better players themselves (they’ve capped what they need to know for the characters already). You have low tier in the game that is just as viable but require an extra skill set to learn that’s unique to the character itself. Learning the extra skill set is what completes the character but that requires extra effort… that effort doesn’t get acknowledged… only wins. I wanna win with Remy I guess, if anything get better by playing in local tournies.

no offense towards chun, yun, ken, and makoto players… but you gotta admit low tier isnt as useless as some people say they are. The negative comments towards low tier turns people off from really doing more with them as well… they just as much require solid execution (if not more), a better understanding of the character, and a dedicated player who ACTUALLY enjoys using them.

I stopped reading after this.

Although this did catch my attention :-P, good shit.

Well…Remy is a good counter character against some characters. Namely Urien, Hugo, Q and some others. He rapes the low tiers for the most part and gives trouble to some of the higher tiered characters as well. It’s just his low defense and Akuma small stun bar that keep people away from him. It’s the fear of potentially losing the match for making one or 2 mistakes that stray people away from Remy. If you play Remy correctly though…you really shouldn’t be getting hit that often. Remy (along with Chun Li and Akuma) is one of the most difficult characters to effectively get in on. His ability to control space in the fight is arguably the best of any character in the game. It’s just that although Remy can win tournaments and is a threat in them…he really has to work a lot harder to do same stuff that the higher tiers can do with less worry…which is dish damage.

You are right about how Remy players should be congratulated for just the way they play to begin with. Like Chun Li, you have to be rather patient at times to win matches and you have to know when exactly to start zoning with fireballs and when it’s time to get in and start doing damage. Remy can really dictate the match when he has the opponent effectively zoned. Makes it easier for him to set up for a rush once they’re backed towards the corner. You just have to be real careful with Remy cuz if the opponent does get in…it’s not much better than what happens when someone gets in on Akuma.

One of the reasons why people love 3S is because it’s a game where the lower tiers are actually competitive at high level play. Of course people realize that obviously there are certain characters that just get the job done a lot easier at high level play…but an effective lower tier player can be just as scary. In 3S there’s more room for player logic and less need to worry about tiers. Especially in team tournaments where you can set up lower tiers effectively to counter top tiers. Even with that said, you still can’t neglect the fact that a character like Ken can dish more damage in a quicker time frame and less risks than Remy. Making him higher on the tier list.

agreed. With top tiers for example. Chun-Li you need two cr. MK to Supers and u win. However, Sean & 12. U gotta work your ass off for your win. U really have to get serious. U do have to accept the fact they aren’t great but just get over plus I think that usually flies over some of these noobs & scrubs’ heads. “Oh he using 12 against my Ken, what a dork, 12 sucks” but they lose lol. Know what I mean ???

i love that chun-li has stomp, and a sj cancel xx super from s.rh

i play makoto cause she has baggy pants and at the time i liked to go to raves and wear big ass kikwears. i stopped going to raves but still play her. im glad she turned out to be high up in the tiers.

I feel most comfortable with Ken. You always have a stock of SAIII at the ready. I can switch from defence to offence quickly and vice versa. With Ken, I can test how well my opponent will play and how much skill they have. But I really like playing as Makoto more because of her tricky karakusa mind games.

Oro cause he’s my hero, i wanna grow up and be just like him lol

Honestly?

I play with the characters that I use because, those are the characters that I wanted to learn/researched.

I play against people that can toast me. Like, ROAST me. So I’m not gonna pick a random name and try to play.

I see people play, I like the style, moveset, whatever… So I read up a bit, and give it a go. I first try to look up what’s gonna AT LEAST give me some playing room, some moves i think won’t get me killed immediately and can make use of, and then see if I can hang. I’m biting for the most part, yes. But fuck you all if you honestly don’t think you’re not doing the same.

This is SRK. this is why the site was founded. Besides the GD nut-hugging stairmaster community, THIS IS WHAT WE DO.

Granted, I play my style, and try to incorporate my own shit, if it’s a new game I’ll see what happens… but hells yeah I’m gonna use the big damage cheap shit if it’s there for me to use.

When you play against people who can rock you hard with anyone, this is how you choose a new character and try to compete. You have to. Honestly, once you’re at a level (or, more appropriately, you competition is) where you HAVE to put up a high game, you won’t pick a character you don’t know anything about. Bottom line.

You can learn a character on your own, yeah. For sure. Vut you’re not gonna do shit unless you’ve already got a good idea of how to play. Also, the only way you’re gonna jump into an already established game is to bite off of the people already playing and try to expand on that.

I know how to play somewhat, but picking a new character and “going for it” without knowing what’s good, is pure suicide.

Same here when I first played DI, I was really into Gundam Wing and Yang just topped it off for me with cool moves and hair. I used to play with Sean until he got the shaft, I’ve since eased up with him and focused on Yang. Yang’s gameplay is just braindead enough for my subpar reflexes. I also like linking senkyutais, a tactic I shamefully learned from Gamepro.

I also dabble in some Akuma. I was always and shoto fan and Akuma is no exception. His defense is bad but his rushdown is nasty.

I play Ken only jokingly, never serious. NEVER. His mp-hp is fun and he feels simple to me. But he is top tier and I feel like I’m cheating sometimes.

Ryu. I like the strong feel of him. All of his moves have this hard feel to him and I feel safe whilst using him.
