The fact, that she’s the only one not included on the FB poll makes me slightly sceptical about that.
Let me respond to that in the following way:

In all seriousness, the general consensus I keep seeing is that Poison is a good character…for Street Fighter 4. She just had the misfortune to be cast in one of Capcom’s weaker fighters in recent memory. And she still remains a popular character in general, just look at this forum alone!
While I’m not sure if we’ll see her in Tekken X Street Fighter, I’d say she’s a VERY strong contender for Street Fighter 5.
EDIT: To me, that facebook poll omission could just mean a decision was already made on her (for good or bad). Harada said he would get to work on her character model if she proved popular enough. Whether he meant from a either gameplay or coolness factor remains to be seen.
To answer your question all you need to do is look at how many posts this forum has verses any other character in the game. Clearly she’s liked for both her game play and her gender mystery. (Personally I love her gameplay cuz its similar to Rose) So with those two things working for her I would say it’s in her favor to be in future sf games
I think it’s because it was a given people wanted to her tbh, plus it would kinda eat a large % of the SF polls…dont you think?
well next to R.Mika and Go Hibiki~
Yup. The only thing left I’m willing to pay for.
I’ll go ahead and stop rambling about the poll, since there’s no way of figuring out the reasons anyway. But why shouldn’t she eat a large portion of the SF poll? Let her shine is all I’m saying. ;D
The point of my worries is; even though she has popularity, it would be nice to solidify her position even further. So far, that popularity relies on a badly received game on the competitive scene, where her playstyle is severely hindered, and her gender ambiguity, as Equin0x pointed out. Not necessarily her gameplay (excluding the posters here). That can only last for so long, before people stop caring.
Still, I guess I’m being too paranoid. Capcom did a good job of presenting her. Gave her a spot in the CG trailer, accidentally made sure she isn’t hated for being seemingly broken ('sup, Hugo/Rolento). Just like Juri in SSF4, who became a major character almost overnight.
I would be very happy if she became a main stay in sf series to come. I hope that Capcom gives her more moves that define her because imo she only has kissed by a goddess and aeolus that are unique to her alone. (With Lome me Tender being a different jaguar kick and wipe of love being a rekka). I would like to see some unique normals, specials or maybe a target combo that ppl remember when referring to her game play. What do you guys think?
Btw according to poison hugo should be that strong (he’s based off of andre the giant after all). And I find it funny that poison and juri complain when they are partners; I thought they would get along for some reason.
In SFxTK, All 5 Final Fight Characters are Allied to be “good”…so Poison bad mouthing Juri or Mishima’s make sense…as Cody/Guy/Haggar were the hero’s and Rolento/Hugo/Poison/(Sodom) were just lesser gang members/bosses who were toppled in the original game, in SF continuity the ex-mad gear members did something else after the syndicate dissolved…
In all actuality there are few SF villains…
Ok that makes since. I have never got around to playing any of the final fight games. I grew up a huge sega fan playing streets of rage. Anyways I guess I’ll give my opinion in the whole Poison gender debate since this forum is pretty much dead.
I think that poison is a girl and not a transsexual, however; I think this because Capcom changed her gender. I do believe that pre-Street fighter x Tekken that poison was a tranny due to this youtube video:

However I think that Capcom has changed Poison to be a female in Street Fighter x Tekken and here’s why
1: On the Street fighter x Tekken website Poison is referred to as “she” http://www.streetfighter.com/us/sfxtk/characters/poison
2: On the same website there is NO indication that poison may be the opposite sex; not even a little hint like that famous (It’s a trap).
3: Poison has less than 1000 health. Capcom is famous for NEVER giving female characters any health in fighting games (Makoto in AE was the exception)
4: Poison’s voice is CLEARLY a females voice.
5: Poison damage is ASS (this may be considered sexist given that sakura hits like a F******* truck but Street fighter girls are not typically known to hit hard)
All in all design wise poison’s game play design is clearly based off the other females on the roster (resembling a mix of Rose and Juri’s gameplay) rather than the male’s in the cast. So this is my argument like it or hate it I will always love a character design based on juri and rose personally no matter how low tier they are.
PS: I think it would be awesome if they made Roxy and poison for Street Fighter V and had Roxy be based on the typical male archetypes (1000 health, hit mid-to heavy) and have poison contrast this.
Male to female transsexuals are referred to as ‘she’.
The website was changed after people started complaining about possibly offensive quotes. The SFxT site was very clear on the issue before that. And, there are still win quotes like Marduk’s against Poison: “Meh, I don’t sweat the small stuff. You’re hot, that’s all I care about.”
I wonder what that means…
Julia has 1000 health. So does Alisa, but she’s not human.
Meanwhile, a number of male characters have below 1000 health.
Ash Ketchum was voiced by a female.
Fuerte and Dhalsim don’t hit like trucks, either. Cammy does.
Fuerte does hit like a truck (you have never seen the run, stop, fierce near infinite in vanilla) and I said that male characters usually tend to hit harder than female characters. I never claimed that not all male characters. Julia is a TEKKEN character and I was talking about Street fighter characters. I realize that a number of male characters have below 1000 health but they tend to be very heavy rushdown characters with fast normals or mixup characters; poison is neither (kinda like rose and juri as I already mentioned). If there was a male version of her, he would probably have 1000 health. Poison’s voice is trying to sound femine due to the things that she says to opponents (Ash Ketchum and Naruto try to sound at least a little masculine when they talk to people). As for the win quotes I think that just Capcom giving a funny nod that they know about the controversy in the character win quotes such as Ryu’s win quote against poison.
As a side note: About time this thread got some comments again
If there were a male version of her, it would probably be Vega. And, Vega has 950 health in this game.
In my view, she’s more comparable to Vega than Rose. Like Vega, Poison is a mobile, keepaway character with nice range and good zoning tools (and an invincible backflip). The type of character you have to catch. And, usually characters like that have a little lower health. I don’t think her low health is proof of her being born female.
Now, Elena having 900 health, on the other hand, has absolutely no gameplay reason whatsoever that I can find. That’s just because she was born female. And, it’s stupid.
IMO the only thing that I think she has that’s similar to vega is the backflip, other than that her pokes are not up to vega par. Poison is more about using her aeolus projectile and such see this:
No, I know her pokes aren’t as good as Vega’s. I’m just saying she has good tools to keep people away like Vega…good anti air cr.HP, good back dash, invincible backflip, lk.DP, chargeable/cancelable slow projectile, long range standing fierce, high jump. And, when people do get in she has ways of getting away again. She can be played super lame if you want…sorta like Dhalsim.
Whether she were born male or female, I can see the reasoning why Capcom would want to lower her health a little…unlike Rose, who really has no reason to have 950 health other than being female.
Of course, that’s not to say that Poison is top tier or anything. But, on PAPER, I could see why they might want to keep her health a little lower than average, regardless of sex.
So after taking sometime off I came back to sfxt to see if I could find any good combos for Poison.
Right now in using her and Lars together and the combos seem to do low damage…but are least they look kinda cool.
This is what I’ve been working on…
Lars on point:
Cr. :hp: ~ Cr. :mk: > mjolnir (tag cancel) Cl. :lk: ~ Cl. :mp: > lmt. 334 damage.
Notes: after the TC the Cl. :lk: to Cl. :mp: is a 1 frame juggle if you want to combo into lmt. However substituting it with kbg makes the combo more consistent. You can actually land Cl. :hp: after the ground bounce for a easier follow up.
Comboing off Lars DP is tricky because if you TC too early your positioning will be off and you’ll drop the combo if done too late. The best time to TC Is after the last hit. This way CADC combos or other juggle fillers are easier to land.
Lars can combo after her :mk: KBG
Like most characters. The most consistent followup I found is his Cl. :mk: ~ cr. :mk: > lightning thrust.
For more meter or if you want to swag out, you can use rising storm instead and TC back into Poison.
There are many ways for Lars to TC to Poison and I’m trying to find good uses of Poisons other moves…anyways ill post something when I find it.

OMG I feel so dumb…why shouldn’t we use Poison’s. Cl. :mp: ?
It creates enough hitstun to tag cancel from it and combo off it. I’m doing stuff with Ken and Yoshi right now…it seems kinda cool to use it like this…
It also seems go to use in getting your partner safely…if you opponent don’t alpha counter…other then that it seems legit.

I was trying that out, it’s at -2 on block, I couldn’t punish with Ryu’s reversal DP but I could with Julia’s super.
I can combo off it into Asuka’s st.hk into combo.
Handy tool, can do like j.lk crossup cl.mp tag cancel on block/hit, for safe tag/combo.
It’s +11 on hit from point blank in the corner as you can switch cancel the cl.MP and link into EX Senpusha with Juri.
While I couldn’t get Juri’s launcher and Sekku (her overhead) to link point blank in the corner I could if I had a small gap between characters (one close standing light punch worth of pushback) giving me a total of about +15 frames advatange.
Given that being as close as possible to the corner gives the least frame advantage possible due to the extra time for the new character to run in it would be safe to say on hit and midscreen your going to be able to combo into a huge range of stuff.
Midscreen I got both Juri’s Sekku and HK Senpusha to link which are +15 and +17 respectively. I also managed to get Hugo’s LP Giant palmbreaker to link which was +19 and that is where I figured I would stop as I could not get MP palmbreaker to link which is +21 so I figured the boundary is around +19-21.
In regards to on Block as it is +0 on block versus its +4 on hit we are looking at just removing 4 frames on anything to get a decent approximation. I haven’t tested that however so if that is incorrect I apologize
TLDR:
An on hit switch cancel off of cl.MP is approximately equal to:
**+11 point blank in corner
**+15 with one close standing light punch worth of push back in the corner.
**+19 midscreen
**Reduce all frame data by -4 for on block
Few things:
1st what block strings are ppl using for poison
2nd has anyone else found partners who can combo off of poison’s kiss by a goddess anywhere on screen besides Nina (see my Nina post in the combo and team synergy thread for that combo)
3rd does everyone still think she is low tier and if she is what buff should she get?
-
I usually end my blockstrings in LMT or hp fireball, always HP fireball in the corner anyway, since it leaves her at + with the delay it takes to hit them, Poison’s corner game is so strong. I do stuff like cr.lk cr.lp cr.mk xx fireball (basic stuff really) or cr.lp > cr.hp xx hp fireball in corner for catching tech, and the occasional CADC for throws and some LMT midscreen, it’s also very important to use her st.lp as well since it’s good enough and it stops you from being launched. I like her st.mp in the corner as it can catch jumps as well. You can do stuff with her dash as well as she has an insanely fast dash, stuff like cr.lk cr.lp dash cr.lk or throw. These are just some examples of what I do.
-
From the characters I tried, Lili can do f+mk ~ st.mp > cr.hp xx lance.
Xiaoyu can do st.mp xx qcb lp/mp > qcb lp > cr.hk
Asuka can land st.mk > cr.mp xx hcb k
Sakura might be able to lp shouken, haven’t tried. -
I think she’s a solid mid tier character, she has a lot of options, but she doesn’t excel in any of them, she can zone, she can rushdown, she has AAs and cr.mk is a really good normal and she has fast upclose normals and an anti fireball.
The buffs I would give her is make her + on overhead on hit and 0/-1 on block, and be able to combo off it on CH
Give rekka more damage
Less pushback on her DP so it can be comboed on tag cancel consistently for all characters.
Just a picky thing on my side, but make her cr.hp faster, make 6/7f so it’ll be more useful as an AA and frame trapper.
That’s it really, I don’t think she needs anything else.
Yes, if nothing else, her lockdown is delicious.
End a blocked string with LMT for another loop, it takes them a while to process what’s up. When they figure out they should probably jump, add fireballs to poke them right back to the ground. When they resign and just block, LMT > jab > throw (her tools are some of the best for a throw game, imho) > HP fireball on wakeup or fireball CADC for rolling dudes.
Cr.HP really is a tiny bit unreliable. I often rely on j.MP a lot more. Amazing range/speed.
It still sucks that she has no real team synergy. It still sucks that the majority of her normals are…average. But she’s alright.
