While I would agree that she is a jack of all trades and master of none, I find her to be above-average in rushdown when compared with others. Using a mix of charge-cancelling, backdashing, and EX Love Me Tender, players can be kept out quite easily. It’s pretty fantastic.
Mmm…I’ve been having a bit of an identity crisis with who I want to play now. I love Poison and she’s super fun to play but then I look at Rolento and it’s essentially the same thing except with much better tag cancel options and without a fireball. Then there’s the fact that I want an overhead that’s actually useful. Man I’m so confused.
Rolento is a cunt.
Hey, I don’t diss Asuka, don’t come at rolento like that, if anypne scream at rufus.
Speaking of How do we fight Rufus? This guy just goes fucking nuts and is safe on everything.
Poison’s win quote on Cody is a little sad.
vs Cody
Talk about falling from grace. I used to fear you, now looking at you just kinda pisses me off.
I was testing the first hit rekka on block and the only discrepancy I found was that Sagat was able to punish where as Steve was not even though their supers are supposed to be equally fast. I think there are some cases where the guide has startup and impact frames mixed up. Anyway, none of the supers slower than Steve’s that I tested were not able to punish it.
edit: Just read the intro chapter on the guide where it said the startup in the frame data actually means impact frames. The Sagat super punishing the first rekka makes more sense now and maybe Steve’s doesn’t work because of the range or something.
Was watching some videos and noticed how Poison alt colours resemble Nora/Electra from Streets of Rage. Very similar hair, palette swaps and heck, they even use a whip! Sorry for quality but I was rushing to do it.

Link please?
Does that work if you hold db for 10 seconds? Super arts take a long time to start, so they may be hitting after your 2 second block window.
^ I’m pretty sure that’s the reason for “block stun cancelling”.
alright so it seems like a few things havent been found out so I figured I should share some of my technology.
first off if you can ALWAYS aa with cr fp its her best aa and off of a counter hit you can get soo much more than a lmt.
the great thing about poison is that most of her normals are special cancelable which also means that you can csdc (charge special dash cancel) so off of a ch you can csdc into anything for the juggle I usually just do cr forward into dp. and the great thing about this is that even if you dont get the ch (which you should be able to react to) you can still csdc with no worry so always cr fp csdc.
next thing Fireball punishes if you react to a fireball and land a j fp combo into cr fp from anywhere from there u can csdc and get a st jab and combo into a chain or rekka w/e u want. this is great because in order to punish stuff hard I would do j fp clst fp ex fireball cr forward st fp (chain) launcher but that comes with the use of meter (atleast mid screen) and it does great damage
final thing Oki control now idk if you guys knew this but you can decide where your opponents roll with certain setups I know 2 (but you most likely wont get to do them unless you get either a ch aa or ch air to air but the set ups is cr rh then rh lmt (mk works at certain distances) or cr rh csdc jump over and when they wake up they either have the option to be controlled by you with rolling or they can stay there where you are still in range to put pressure on them. Its pretty good stuff.
Hopefully this stuff helps someone.
ooh and poison players please stop blowing meter on lmt. I see too many poisons just run through meter trying to get in with ex lmt that move is 29 frames of slowness and unless im throwing a fireball you are putting too much of a risk on yourself.
and whip of love is not the best move for a block string. yeah most of the cast cant punish you for it but the ones who can will make it hurt ryu can upper cut tag out and julia can straight up super for free (the power of a 1 frame super)
I’m really not understanding all this success off of of cr F aa I’m always getting stuffed like no matter where the jumpi in is.
Also why would anyone throw out ex lmt without reaction? Unless you are doing cr jab pressure into that because they block low…but that’s a terrible thing to do, (although I still do it)
Ive played like 2 or 3 poisons who as soon as they got meter they would try to ex lmt…
for cr fp you just need to learn when to press the button. and where you can press it.
I’ve had more success (er, more than others) with a combination of st. mp and and mk dp. What’s poison’s best air to air normals? I try to challenge jump-ins with early j. mp/hp but I get a foot in the face.
NCR had like no Poison’s really…also i caught a cold -_-’
I had a great time there though…i’ll share what i learned later…anyways~
I’m not surprised that it didn’t have many Poisons. There isn’t much reason to pick her over say, Ryu for example.
Character love doesn’t count?
In high level play? Not really.
Ricky loves Poison, yet he still went Chun/Rufus and I doubt he’s bringing Poison back any time soon, if ever.
She’s solid as fuck, but her only weakness is somewhat glaring in high level play. Kazuya players can turn a whiff punish into 500 damage, whereas Poison doesn’t have that kind of option without a lot of meter. Add the way gray damage is kind of becoming an issue, and winning tournaments with Poison becomes complicated, even though she’s actually really good outside of her damage.
I promise if I get any namestatus it will be with poison strictly
Funny thing is I play Poison/Kazuya (although I can’t do those 500 damage combos outside of training room )
