Whip it, whip it good - The Poison GD Thread

I don’t consider her a zoning character at all. Her fireballs are kind of ass at long range.

She’s more of a footsies character, in my opinion.

EDIT - Just checked the Bradygames guide, none of her grounded whip normals have hurtboxes at the tip of the whip! Her backdash is also identical to Chun’s and Cammy’s, second best backdash in the game.

Also, just out of curiosity, what do you guys consider a good answer to pressure?

-Her rekkas aren’t really pressure rekkas like Rolento’s or Fei Longs’s, they’re just there for a combo ender.
-Her overhead does crossup on wakeup… REALLY fast and ambiguous!Think of it more like a “hop” than an overhead…
-She has pretty nice range. Yoshimitsu doesn’t get her range with his sword, check out Level Up’s tutorial on him, it’s a joke. Besides, you want to give the illusion of playing a poking game at mid-range while fishing for LMT, you’re going to win it with that, not your normal.
-True, no damage, but she always cross rushes successfully, giving your partner a chance to nail 400-500dmg, which is scary.
-Nope, just gotta deal. Her ex KBG is invul and hits behind too, that’s actually better than what most character’s get. It’ll just take time to learn the Tekken cast.

LP will give you a +3 adv on block, but you gotta remember the LMT’s have a 29 frame start up >.>… that gives the opponent a good 26 frames to do anything. Pretty sure any normal will beat that, and a shoto srk is a 3 frame start with invul.

I think it’s still too early to say. Right now, the game is catering to the easy to pick up characters with big damage. You never know which new tech will help or hurt Poison.

In SFIV, HELLS YEAH. I’m a jabbing machine there. But yeah, meant they don’t have a good gtfo move.

New Tech?: While doing those combos for the other thread, I realized how sneaky Poison can be during oki. Anybody notice where the LMT’s land after a throw? You can LMT to the other side, in front, or outside reversal range, and recover in time to block (from what my rec. mashing shoto was capable of). You can make the LMT look meaty as hell too if you’re not worried about them mashing a reversal.

Plus, you have her overhead to switch sides, a flip, and a good throw+forward dash(almost feels like Bison’s)? It’s seems like Poison has ALOT of tools to get a hard knockdown, oki, and repeat. I might have to try some of that on a real opponent sometime and see how it pans out.

Oh, I had though of a LMT tech like that as well, but since I haven’t tested it against real opponents I didn’t want to say anything about it before confirming it first.

Any time you land a WoL midscreen, the knockdown leaves you at a perfect range for her HK LMT, not to mention you get some frame advantage to either:

-Early HK LMT, whiffs and leaves you in throw range to either throw them or go into normals/frame traps.
-Perfectly timed meaty HK LMT, comboing out of it on hit into another WoL and yet another LMT oki or getting blocked for a free frame trap - needs testing to see if she’s safe to reversals.
-Bait a tech roll, do a LK LMT instead with the same options you’d have for a normal wake up - Take this one with a grain of salt, this is simply speculation on my part since I didn’t test the range on this setup yet.

Yeah, tech rolls and stuff are what worries me. You’d have to start using the cr. lk,mk,hk chain to get the knockdown after oki.

Against a decent Rolento, I had a lot of success playing oki. He had an invul reversal, but the punish was severe, on block, with Nina getting tagged in free. This caused him to sit and really eat her mixups. Just standing next to them and dashing back on their wakeup, then dash up throw/normal feels a lot like Bison. I didn’t get a chance to try the LMT setups, but knowing she has something while most characters have nothing anymore is pretty interesting.

would this be like a similar set up to Cammy’s Medium hooligan after back throw like in super giving you the option to go for a re grab?

sidenote: Rush down is pissing me off. I got nothing at this point. getting really frustrated at the shit too

Yeah, just tried it out. If they tech roll they land exactly in your face, which is just as good as the HK LMT mix up. Never do it against grapplers, though.

Any advice on how to deal with Vega (claw)?

Yeah, actually maybe I should have said off of a blocked LMT instead.

I feel like her range is just OK, since her normals are pretty poor. I did discover though that NJ.MK beats out close jump ins. It seems to have a lot of active frames. J.MP , S.MP , Cr.HP are good anti airs. I actually feel like S.Mp her best anti air normal only thing that realized is that you have to her anti air normals right when they jump. So that they stay active. It’s just rekkas are a stipulation for rush-down/Mix-up characters. I’ve never seen a characters that’s not one of those have rekkas. lol I’ll try to get this stuff recorded if possible, and give it to everyone to see.

@ Jamp I find the only good answer to pressure is backflip, in all honestly. Even DP sometimes… But thats my gripe, once shes pressured correctly shes in trouble.

I feel you on that. The movement in this game can feel ridiculously stiff at times, especially playing on a 360 pad [until I get my PS3 copy as well]. I will sometimes jump straight up in the middle of an Asuka combo for no reason :
I’m finding no synergy in their tag combos, but I guess we’ll work on it together and share our technology

From what I can tell, Vega seems a little more defensive in this game than in Super. I would say zone/bait with Aeolous, wait for that jump in/dat flying barcelona and try countering with KbG. Mix in EX LMT to scare him or throw off guard to start your mix-up pressure if you can spare the meter.

Question,When do I press Standing strong during tag combo? Every time I do a CC I can’t connect the standing jab. or if I do connect S.St then it’s too low and the opponent falls out.

So far I’d say there’s no secret to it. Basically I’ve been approaching the matchup like this: stay midrange just outside the range of his c.:mp:, zone with fireballs and whiff punish his c.:mp: with s.:hp: into Launcher into partner combo.

If he’s close to you, don’t press buttons, just block and get a chance to get out of there. He tries to do Roll shenanigans, Alpha Counter him to get him out of you.

A bit too early to be throwing numbers around, but I’d say it’s Poison’s advantage.

Vega’s claw normals are not as “long” in hitbox as they visually appear, very similar to Poison in that regard but he still outranges Poison I think. His rolls are actually -frame on block according to the info in the Vega forums with the exception of the EX roll, but he can still spend meter to tag out and give his partner a free mixup opportunity - still probably best to Alpha Counter to avoid chip damage.

If they try to get cute with FBA/Izuna just hit them out of it or try to backdash them, the usual.

Also, if you get momentum Vega does not seem to deal with pressure very well, Scarlet Terror is a poor man’s anti-air.

Anyone know any good blockstrings and or Frame traps?

Not sure about frame traps, but for a blockstring I usually go for crossup j. lk, and then cr. lk, cr. lk, cr. lp, Light Aeolous. If I’m feeling up to it, I’ll hitconfirm the cr. lights into rekkas.

PSN chat or is it elsewhere?

Vega matchup isn’t difficult. I stay out of his poking range and zone with fireballs and s:mp:. Press no buttons when he does get close. I by my time and wait for a good time for a reversal KBG or land an alpha counter.

it’s somewhere else.

Lol tekken characters have a field day with poison. Raven in particular.

Capcom hook my girl up with a target combo with her overhead in it.

I found a ‘Bug’ or something. Poisons close Light Punch is whiffing on Bison. If Bison is just crouching (no block), her close light punch hits, but if bison is in crouch block (Down Back) her punch whiffes. WTF is this shit capcom?
For example, even Hugos, Balrogs or Sagats close light hits…

Ah Poison my dear why do you not have anything reliable to tag cancel off of? ):

whats wrong with the DP?
