i think that’ll depend on the player~ because she can be lame…not as bad as Sim but still…
I feel like I am on a rollercoaster with this character so much.info and people looking to play her now. I remember when this thread was basically me, rook, jamp, brennan, and janet sometimes with no info at all and just hopes now we have blockstrings and links before we even know all the characters…crazy.
Anyway i’ve been so busy and haven’t been able to post as much as I like that its great to check back in on this thread and hear good things like her normals are still pretty good and she can combo into sweep which will be huge metagame wise later on. Huge. Especially when you consider she can zone decently as well.
My teams haven’t changed at all since the games annoucement Cody/Poison, Vega/Juri and Hwo/Leo and some Paul in there too who also looks good and fun.
lolz yeah alot of people are interested in her, which is a good thing you know, but i honestly dont believe alot of them will commit to her…only the guys who had been posting here for awhile are going to stay with her…even if she is terrible~
That’s the thing.
I think this game is going to make her look “bad”, simply because they gave her such a basic SF styled moveset - which I loathe. [S]I personally think they should’ve replaced her very out-of-character fireball with a command grab or aerial move, but anyway… [/S]
Most of the Tekken cast already dominates and makes the SF cast look weak/bland in comparison, and the SF mainstays have (mostly) been tweaked to better suit this game’s engine. But I feel Poison is very barebones in terms of her tools ***for this game, ***yet she would be great in SFIV.
If Love Me Tender was still an overhead (as it should be) and if we could still chain into specials instead of only EX, I’d feel a lot more confident about playing as her. I’m not into zoning and feel that’s probably the stupidest direction they could have gone in when creating her since it doesn’t feel very fitting, and she seems like she’d be a beastly rushdown character having the previously mentioned tweaks and maybe some safer moves; but as others have stated many times…She just doesn’t excel at anything. And it’s in a less than well-rounded way.
I don’t know, I haven’t gotten my hands on the game yet so maybe judging based on collected info and videos is a bit rash but there seems to be *something *about Poison that’s missing.
She’ll still be my Day 1 main for sure and forever, I just hope she doesn’t get labelled as garbage because she’s a character that you’ve got to use your brain to effectively play well.
She seems like a very footsies oriented character. How good she ends up being I think ultimately relies on how good her normals are. If they’re good, then I can see her being a very strong character.
Poison isn’t going to have alot of good match ups…i can already see that, its going to be a uphill climb and for anyone to get wins with her have to a good player with solid fundamentals. seeing that she is bare bones, its going to be hard to win with, but thats all the more challenging imo…she isn’t a brain dead character…you gotta put in work.
Despite all the she has alot of good things making her not terrible.
+Decent overhead(apparently you can Link from it after all)
+Good Air to Air normal(Jump Fierce)
+Jump Roundhouse and Jump short are good for Jump ins
+Standing Forward, standing Fierce, Crouching forward are good normals(the latter being special cancelable)
+Crouching strong and fierce are good anti-air’s(the former being special cancelable)
+Standing short hits low
+Can put up with fireball fights(need to test durability of fierce aeolus edge)
/(netrual) Love me tender isn’t overhead, slowest special move(cannot be comboed from any standing/crouching normal), does the most damage of her normal special moves if the throw lands, can be comboed if opponent is in a juggle state, EX version tracks, no version is fireball invulnerable, all normal versions are punishable on block.
/Kissed by a goddess is good anti-air, hits opponents behind her negating cross up attempts, until proven otherwise all normal versions do not have invulnerability, good combo/crossrush ender.
/Whip of love is the source of most of her damage(EX version), normal versions are slightly punishable, good to use fo tag cancel combos(keeps opponents in place…think ken’s tatsu).
/Aeolus Edge is a generally a good projectile(nothing remarkable).
/High jump arc this is a double edge sword to me as it make her able to travel some distance by air but makes AA her all the more easier.
/Super has normal projectile durability, decent damage output, but its easy to combo into.
you all should know that bad and the ugly by now…but even with these good or decent things, there are plenty of things to be figured out. to me Poison is that Diamond in the dirt that is easy to overlook, but once you notice it you see how pretty it is…
She won’t have good matchups but she won’t have bad matchups either, I think. She’s pretty much a shoto and she will rely on footsies, fundamentals, spacing and what not. She has all the tools she needs to win and they are mostly really solid, but she won’t be having any free wins - not an uphill battle, but you’ll still have to work for your wins.
Think SF4 series Ryu.
Poison looking solid in this game. I’m definitely going to pick her up in my team.
Exactly. I do hope that people leave the traditional shoto’s for what they are and start playing with her instead. Seeing all those Ryu/Ken teams yesterday on the stream, people really should try out Poison. She can easily replace BFF Ryu and Ken!
YES, and she seems to have really good synergy with Hugo as well(obviously), cant wait to try her out.
I like that she solid and simply based around footies and if you go back in this thread that’s what I wanted her to be because I thought was gonna get snubbed (whoops).
You guys are too paranoid, maybe a simple style isn’t want you were expecting but Cody was simple in ssf4 and AE and i’ve beasted with him for quite some time. This game is NOT mvc3, it’s about having simple effective offense (at least for now) and poison surely do that from what i’ve heard and seen.
Also zoning fits her personality perfectly imo because she is a wrestling manager, they never take hits well plus she is not this super tough makoto type in your face girl fighting chick to me. I think this shows by how much she loves hiding behind Hugo.
Imo poison likes the spotlight but would rather not have to fight herself so a zoning build meter for my partner to do this crap style fits perfectly.
Yeah but even SFIV ryu had quote on quote “bad” match ups in SFIV, like against his old nemesis Sagat and even Balrog as most people agree the match is in rogs favor. Poison will have good match ups…at least against one character in the roster…but on the flipside you already know there are going to be matches that are not in her favor. I would put money down now saying its a few Tekken characters at this point.
The game is still very early so there is alot to figure out with in the coming months, so when we all get our hands on the game early next month we can actively add more info about the game, I know we’ll get full character threads…i mean its a capcom game o_O well the capcom characters will…lolz
but as we were talking about it earlier, who is down for some day 1-2 endless battle?
I can do some day 1-2 endless battle. I still think most of poison’s match ups will be even, some in her favor and others not in her favor.
yeah, no better way to figure match ups then actually playing matches…i hope everyone is on PSN for the most part…i get to figure out the pac man match up…watch it be 9/1 in pac mans favor…Waka, Waka
whos gonna run the 360 sessions ?
Well all we need is someone to benefit poison or vise versa. Once we get a person that benefits her and our own play styles we won’t have to worry about her terrible match ups all that much.
i only just started posting and i don’t plan to pick anyone else just because i didn’t post on page 1 doesn’t mean i won’t be on every other page after this.(but i do understand where you’re coming from as a hsienko user in marvel)
but i like the character which is always good and imo she seems like rose more so then ryu type of character, which is who i used
i really can’t see her being played strictly one way just because she doesn’t do anything that well to be able to just sit on that and be competitive
I don’t expect her to be played in one general way. It’ll be obvious when people get the game, but it can be said about any character…its on how the player uses said character. I do whatever works for me, but im more of a gimmicky player in general(I play Eileen in VF5 you can’t get anymore gimmicky then that…besides Voldo) but thats just me.
but we are at the point where we just all want to have the game in our hands…i felt this way for a few weeks before SCV’s launch…
Yeah. Since this is a tag game, bad matchups can be mitigated just by having the right partner. You playing a character that gets raped by fireballs? Get a zoning partner and tag out against Guile.
either that or a partner who can get in on the opponent, wavedash, ect. anything is possible~
THIS, final fight characters have always been easy(not sure if Guy counts). but yeah, they do seem to build alot of meter
