Whip it, whip it good - The Poison GD Thread

Meh i’ll have some time while i do math to think of some of the link juggle combos.

well since you know Air to Air Jump HK(Jump HP has a better Arc imo) is good combo filler for off the wall combos, and Poisons Cr.MK is more or less her Go to move for Juggles that have(low height) and St.HP[far] is better for opponents who are alittle higher.

however picking the special move to finish the juggle will be situation it seems as ending it with the fireball seems like the worst in term of damage but easiest in terms of difficulty(canceling from Cr.MK doesn’t combo normally either so thats also something to consider…but it will if its juggled). Kiss By a Goddess seems like the best to use if they start(low) as it comes out fast, Whip of Love don’t seem like they’ll catch them if their low to the ground and Love me Tender is out the question.

If they are Juggled high however, Love me Tender and Whip of love seem like the best options to end juggles with…in newer builds Love me Tender does more damage then Whip of love(non EX) so its something to take into consideration. we should put Tag Cancel Combos in a certain directory right? anyways thats what i got right now for the current system…

given you want to L,M,H, EX Whip of Love after a CrossRush, you still get a juggle after the Ex Whip of Love, St.HP and Cr.MK will juggle after it so you can do whatever really…

Edit: @ Jamp, on the stream footage, i swear i seen Jump HP have a funky hit box at 2:16 almost like it Crossed up because Poison lands behind Raven, also seen what i mean awhile ago when i mentioned her DP sometimes catches crossups? it always had that hitbox.

I had seen it, but I thought it was known or something so I didn’t say anything about it

That was without a doubt a crossup. And it didn’t look like a situational crossup either, it looked pretty clean. A heavy crossup move makes me drool in anticipation.

alright~ i was just making sure, and yeah Jamp Poison is looking very dirty if you know what i mean. I think im going to be done with Poison for a while(in terms of info) and move on to characters who need some love(Tekken characters) and check out Hugo’s Thread too.

But let me know when you do decide to update the front page, i got alot of ideas~

I’m really interested to see how well Juri/Poison team will go. Team Sadism anyone?

For me, this one is pretty big. I noticed some odd hitbox issues with her j.HP with the NYCC build, and it’s nice to know we’re still seeing the results of all the fine tuning they’re doing behind the scenes. The idea that her already good fundamentals are getting even better is keeping my hopes up in the midst of all these new reveals.

…I’ll be in my bunk.

Not to mention the fact we have general idea on how the overall system works, it getting easier to figure out how combos are going to work now. We all know Poison is going to be Overused day 1 but im kinda interested in seeing how over she’ll show up as time progresses~

anyways Robbie you have any ideas to add to the list?

I think i know why we can’t cancel out of cross chain’s. its because we can juggle into combos which we can’t do via chain.

Hmm…
I want to know how Juri/Poison will work out.
If Juri’s Fuhajin charge still juggles i fear that she will be extremely dangerous on her own.

As far as teams, you mean? I don’t really think I have much as far as definite strategies that haven’t been said already, especially since I haven’t tried all the characters yet. All I have right now is just a mental pool of combinations I plan on checking out come release day.

Having said all that, here’s some extremely rough ideas for potential tag partners for Poison based entirely on my own biased opinons (taken worth a HEAP of salt):

Spoiler

Hugo

 • Classic Combination.
 • Straight power/grappler character to balance out Poison’s fireball/mixup game.
 • One big target.

Marduk

 • Another power character with decent looking normals.
 • Decent damage and range, too.
 • Felt reeeeally slow. May take some getting used to.

King

 • A grappler with a few more alternatives / flexibility.
 • Low dropkicks are sweet.
 • Does anyone even like King other than me?

Kuma

 • Kung Fu Action Grizzly Bear.
 • Read the above statement until awesome.
 • Seriously though, nice damage, but unusual like Marduk. May require effort, but seems effective.

Raven

 • Really fast and tricky. I think people might be sleeping on him.
 • If you’re good with mixup characters like this, doubling up might not be so bad.
 • Doubling up on common weaknesses probably isn’t.

Blanka

 • Hits hard.
 • I like charge characters.
 • May not actually be in the game.

Bob

 • Feels like a more disciplined version of Rufus that can reflect projectiles.
 • Has E. Honda’s AA overhead chop. I like that move.
 • Relatively easy to pick up.
 • Gives big guys a decent character to cosplay as for once.
 • I can’t see many bad points.

Yoshimitsu

Kazuya

 • Seemed like he was Wesker tier in earlier builds.
 • Looks to have all the tools Poison needs.
 • Everyone and thier mother will be playing him on Day 1.

After watching those videos from gametrailers I had a few things I wanted to discuss but i’ll take that to the general discussion thread, however as for Poison herself and potential partners, I liked the pros and cons you put up in your last post(Yoshi is most definitively tricky). I guess its safe to say that it isnt going to be hard for our homegirl to find a partner…and gem sets will dictate how that Poison will be played as well.

I personally like having King/Raven as potential partners…King having 2+3 that wallbounces for free~ and it looks safe. Raven having dat style and crazy zoning game gets me hyped to play him, But I can’t forget about Hugo or Cammy either…so those are general options for me(Hugo is pretty awesome in SFxT).

i guess until the game comes out we can trade theories on GemSets and potential Tag Cancel Combos before release~

I’m worried about Poison’s effectiveness. It seems that in 90% of videos I’ve seen of her the person playing her loses, even if they seem to know what they are doing.

People don’t actually know what they are doing. She’s a brand new character in a game people haven’t had the time to fully explore the combo system. In the videos I’ve seen, they’ve been playing her like a shitty Ryu, fireball spam, reversal DPs and random Cross Rushes.

I’ve yet to see anyone combo into and out of EX WoL outside of the reveal trailer and that is supposed to be her main source of damage.

IMO she looks extremely solid. She has enough tools to guarantee that she’ll be at least decent. It’s kind of like Akuma (who I don’t think has ever been bad in a game… ever) but to a lesser degree.

So I’ve settled on my team with Poison/Juri. Now I’m starting to think about Gems. I’m thinking something along the lines of:

Poison: Some type of Iron Wall Lv. 1 Gem, Onslaught Lv.1 (Connect with 3 special moves) and Divine Speed (Connect with 3 special moves)
Juri: Immense Power Lv.1 (Your partner connects with a launcher) x 3.

The goal here would be to have Poison lame it out and play Guile-ish with her fireballs + DP + excellent normals to build some meter. Then once the Onslaught and Divine Speed gems are active I try to use that extra speed to land a hit, making sure to use a launcher so that when Juri comes in she’ll come in with (hopefully) 3 bars as well as +30% damage then from there I’ll finish the combo with something like HP/HK xx EX pinwheel -> cr.mk xx Super Art, hopefully killing the opponent if Poison did enough damage up to that point.

What do you guys think? I know it’s still theory fighter and the game’s still a month and a half away but I wanna make sure I’ve got a plan for release day.

@Humpski, Welcome back…haven’t seen you post here in a while…also what Jamp said is pretty much true, not many people know the character so they resort to that kind of basic play(i know i did something similar until i got the hang of her) but she isn’t hard to figure out afterwards.

@Zujira, that GemSet is fine as it would go more on the lines of a “balanced” GemSet then a specialty one. Having Juri as the main Engine/focal point of your team is a good thing but keep in mind your also committed to keep her in as well because all Juri’s Gems activated right then. however if landing one general combo with juri for the kill is what you want to do, CrossRush isnt the best way to go about it as damage will scale really high…a reset or going for a different gem condition mite fair better for you.

Juri being set to having max damage output gems is a good idea(easier the activation conditions the better it is for the sake of speed, but for more damage, going out your way for 10 normals may pay off in the long run), so X3 immense power lv.1 isnt bad because thats +30% in power for 1 condition…and its easy to pulloff or manipulate(you can choose not to activate it at all). However if Poison’s Gems were as Specialized as Juri, i feel that your synergy would be better imo, because its apparent that Juri has a specific role…Poison should as well, whether that is a road block or a battery. sorry for the long winded reply

Poison
Assist set
Onslaught gem lv1 (Land a reversal) 20%
Iron wall gem lv1 (Block 5 normals) 20%
Immense power gem lv1 (Block 5 Normals) 10% [I might replace this one with another Onslaught Gem so she can add more meter for the point character.]

Lili,Julia, Jin, or Bob
Offensive set
Immense power lv2 (Launcher)
Damage reduction lv1 (Cross cancel)
Immense power lv 1 (Connect with a launcher.)

I see what you’re saying rook. The main problem with poison is that I basically want her to do most of the work and just have to rely on Juri to get the kill, so she has to be the tank, the meter builder and has to be able to land a hit. Unfortunately, Divine Speed, Iron Wall, and Onslaught don’t all have reasonable activations that can cause them to activate all at once so I’m still a little iffy about her set.

Thanks for noticing therook!
Yeah the gems killed my hype for a little while. But I got over it.

@Zujira, I get what you mean, outside of pre-order gems~ its kinda hard to get reasonable activation conditions for those gems. which is why I thought it mite be best to focus on one of the three, or at least 2. more or less your using Poison to build meter and wear down your opponent for Juri to pick up the kill. However with both having below average stamina, its harder for Poison to outlast a good portion of the roster in that regard, so things like fortitude and lifeforce seem more apparent then before as your main priority is to keep Poison in as long as possible. adding a C.Gauge gem with those two will round out your strategy rather nicely.

@Humpski, yeah alot of people were bummed out by Gems~ and yeah, Im sure alot of people noticed, im sure your one of the more influential guys here…i should be saying thanks for helping get Poison in SFxTK! hehehe.

unfortunately my net is down and im posting from my brothers place…so basically its going to take me a day or two to reply now~ sucks but it happens…AT&T just sucks…

Can’t mess with this girl. This girl got the most character view for some odd reason. This bitch here.

Hype for the game is from low to med now. Gems factor settling in so we wait to see how it goes.

I’m really pushing for these teams…

Poison/Lili
Poison/Julia
Poison/Bob
Poison/Bryan
Poison/Jin

There are a few other teams… I’m going to play them a lot to see which team works best.
