Cr. strong beats a lot of Fei’s stuff. Mistimed CWs = free 3 hit forward upkicks juggle (but good Feis wouldn’t do that). Cr. forward beats rekkas, blocked flame kicks are free damage.
I still think DJ has a big advantage in this matchup, but what do I know, I haven’t fought any great Feis.
best way to beat dj is to corner him and work your magic. MIX it up. i love using deep xup mk, cl.hp xx cw. its free damage, just that you really need mind games after the cw. also, f/b.mk is godly, especially on wake up.
like zenken said, cw -> flame kick, if blocked is free damage for dj.
So it is categorically true to say that ST Fei had already placed top 8 at Evo already.
Furthermore, you state above that it should be obvious that Fei is more “tournament viable” than he was before, but then proceed to discount all of Jumpsuit’s previous tournament placings (and these are not no-name backwater tournaments). If you mean to say that he is now more viable at Evolution, then fine; you placed 5th, Jesse placed 7th. But, objectively speaking, you have a LOT more work to do to show that HDR Fei can even be as good as ST Fei was.
I’m not saying that I necessarily disagree with your conclusion, but I do disagree with your logic. If winning proves that the character is acceptable, Jumpsuit proved that with ST Fei years ago. Does the fact that a triple T.Hawk team got 3rd place at X-Mania IX (while T.Hawk has had no respectable showing in HDR) mean that T.Hawk is worse in HDR than in vanilla ST?
If you disagree with sirlin, you don’t know what you’re talking about. Just quit while you’re ahead, guys. Remix fei is here to stay and I don’t think sirlin takes criticism well.
To gridman’s credit, he’s made quite a stink about HDR Hawk in Hawk’s thread, the inevitable tier thread, and any other thread where it’s brought up. I don’t think he’d say that Hawk was treated worse than Fei Long, though.
Also, even though Jumpsuit has a very valid point and Sirlin’s logic is a little off concerning Fei Long’s tournament viability, I do still think that, at this point, Sirlin has shown that Fei Long can compete at high levels of play.
However, the REAL question is…will he do it again next year? Will he do better or worse once the top players have a chance to get used to the new Fei Long? I mean…isn’t that why tournaments are best 2 out of 3 and double elimination? To eliminate the possibility of flukes? Scientifically speaking, it would be prudent to have more data before we come to a solid conclusion.
Tentatively, however, I’d say that, while I do still think Fei Long’s mixup game has suffered while his offensive poking game has gotten better, he is still able to compete. So…let’s just learn from what Sirlin’s done at Evo and get better ourselves.
You brought up hawk. I play fei sort of as a secondary in HDR (I played him more in ST). Sorry I responded to your post? Ive also said before how much fei got the shaft in HDR too but whatever.
the number of people “with an IQ greater than that of a TV” who think that Hawk is worse in HDR would seem to be less than the number of people in this thread who were saying the same about Fei
I doubt very much that Sirlin would agree with your assessment that Hawk is worse in HDR
So essentially, your argument comes down to “Hawk is WAY worse in HDR, oh, and Fei was worse too before Evo, but now I think Fei’s good, but Hawk still sucks yo”. Anyone that was posting in this thread about how trashy Fei was (and is not, at the very least, willing to stick by that observation) has zero credibility when it comes to claiming that [other character] is Obviously Nerfed Beyond Recognition. Do we need to have an annual Sirlin-Is-Proving-This-Character-Is-Good event?
Sirlin obviously consulted 0 hawk players when making his changes. Please, if you dont play hawk, dont act like you know what the fuck you’re talking about. You just make yourself look a lot dumber.
Tell me, how is giving him a worse dive, a whiff animation, 1 active grabbing frame, and a buggy super motion better than O.hawk? Right.
