If you’re referring to me, I don’t disagree. The point I was trying to make was that with the homogenization of most characters, it’s really not as black&white as some people seem to think. It’s easy to see someone as a battery when everyone builds good meter. Getting hit = good meter too so it really gives you an illusion of a character being better than they are.
I’m not sure if this has been addressed yet.
According to the brady guide, meterbuilding is 1 to 1 related to the UNSCALED damage you do and/or take. Each bar of meter is 1,000,000 points. So, to iterate, when you’re doing a combo, each hit builds meter equal to the damage that hit would’ve done with no scaling. At the same time, the more health your character has, the more meter they will build by the time they die.
what this means is that for, at least, building meter you need a character that can do around one million unscaled damage in one combo.
so relate this to the ubiquitous Wesker discussion: he can definitely do a million UNSCALED (caps inb4 “hurr hurr show me your million damage meterless combo”) damage. He hits hard, which means he doesn’t need long comboes to do damage (unlike Morrigan) and he has 1,100,000 hp which means, if you paid attention above, that he will net at least one bar of meter if he get’s K.O.d. So, objectively, Wesker can absolutely cut it as battery.
hope this was helpful.
If meter building was calculated off of unscaled damage, it would seem that characters who have long highly scaled combos would get the best meter building to damage ratio. That makes sense right? Having combos with few hits and little scaling mean you will get meter close to the actual damage you manage to do.
Definitely putting my vote in for Wolvie. Magnus is a great meter builder but like many have said Gravity Squeeze is just too good. Captain America is interesting in that he doesn’t have to use meter and builds loads of it but likes having his supers available against zone heavy teams.

Plus his supers suck anyways and he can play run away if needed, and chip from afar with the gun.
He’s one of the more obvious meter builders in the game…
okay. Wesker is a battery. On paper, he generates a lot of meter. But as a Wesker player, what concerns me is how well he can actually generate it against a variety of playstyles. I’ve brought up points concerning that. Also, with the meter that you are building with Wesker, are you sure you DON’T want to use it to kill a character? Would you relegate that to the character you are building meter FOR? Lots of these things don’t change that he is or isn’t a battery but it does go towards figuring out his effectiveness as one. As a Wesker player, that’s good information for me.
lol only took 50 posts to get this through his thick skull. Victory.
Regardless of what character you are using to generate meter if an opportune time comes where you can kill a character off it doesn’t come down to battery specifics. You can either burn a level 3 or burn 3 (or 5) DHC to make sure it gets done, that isn’t a relevant point to bring up at all.
At this point in the game meter builders are almost completely relegated to Phoenix teams, as most everyone has mentioned there are many many good meter builders and even the ones labeled as “not so great” are still good enough that you don’t really need to set aside a specific meter builder for some strategic purpose other than dark phoenix.
What I find funny is that Akuma31 loves to say how much he needs 4 meters for phantom dance into Chris’ level 3 cannon, which is utterly ridiculous since Wesker BnB > samurai otg into Chris’ assist > Nightmare does = or more damage depending on how many hits of Phantom Dance you get before DHC.
This guy never should have been talking about Wesker as a battery when he has no idea how to even use meter effectively in this game.
i actually followed your entire debate/bitch-fight with wonderswan, and it was hilarious, make no mistake. this thread is about figuring out who’s a really solid battery character: not about whether Wesker can be used as anything else. No fucking shit! Play Wesker any fucking way you want. You don’t have to keep restating how you don’t think Wesker is a battery character. We get your point and almost everyone unanimously disagrees. No one’s telling you to stop what you’re doing in-game. You should stop posting though, since you and your buddy derailed the shit out of the initial discussion. Go to the Wesker forums please, and discuss there how you want to play him.
I agree with Wolvorine. He does a lot of damage and he does do more hits in his combos i think than most characters. good health too. If you decided mid-match to use him with meter, he uses it real well too. I think that versatility should be important.
After thinking about it Morrigan should work well. She doesn’t do as much damage, but has a lot of easy links to extend her combos. i think she can link , :h: about 2 or three times before she uses her launcher.
not to mention that her meter building assist can me used while your “meter dump” char is in play.
amaterasu can be used similarly i think, though i haven’t played with her extensively. does anyone know if she can do well without her meter? she seems to have long combos, and very good runaway similar to wesker.
And that’s the main reason why Wesker is a battery. Outside of his Level 3, his hypers SUCK. Phantom Dance is so random with hits, to where the opponent can drop out of it, and the damage will be all over the place. Rhino Charge is fine, but since he can be knocked out of startup, it makes it hard to be used effectively outside of DHCs.
With those in mind, there’s no reason TO use meter with Wesker, since the results are less than satisfactory without at least 2 meters for DHCs, or 3 for his level 3.
but without that argument, we wouldn’t have the information posted that followed it.
Tron builds meter like wonder :
jH S sjMMH (land) jMMH (land) 2MHS jMMHS 2HA16H 236H jMH 236L H421HHHHHHHH is worth 2,2*meters, and deals 600k damages. If you want to burn one meter, you can 100% a 800k character while still having a metter gain.
Don’t need a battery, just Air Exchange for meter.
Chris and Spencer, Chris can build 1 meter just with his flamethrower
I feel like a lot of Phoenix teams or team that use characters that need alot of meter
(C Viper or Skrull) fall into the trap of “I can’t use my meter because I have to save it for Phoenix” ! You’ll be devoured if you think Phoenix is a 100% clutch player…it’s best to have her on the team and have her an inevitable option.
I use taskmaster/phoenix(Skrull-Viper)/Ammy
Taskmaster is a brilliant battery and a very good team player…he has great assists/projectiles (his arrows are pretty strong) really good on point IMO because of his normals and pressure game. While he does have a good super I don’t think its mandatory in his gameplay…if you wanna shot things so much just use your projectile more- its good believe me!
Ammy is just amazing because she has an answer to everything…'nough said.
Zero gets my vote for meter building.
Wolverine
Tron
Phoenix
Hagger
Have good melee based moves without needing projectiles much.
lol at Haggar “not needing” projectiles.
morrigan assist
Thor is the best battery in the game. Simply pull out the other guy’s stick, and build up those 5 meters with his LEGENDARY TAUNT™ as he scrambles to put it back in!
“Seriously is english you are 2nd language or something?”
