Sadly, this is usually the case, no one plays the damn thing. It doesn’t matter how much you love the game, if you don’t have comp around, you won’t be playing it for long.
While it’s true that it’s possible to hit a few buttons and have something come out (though not to the ridiculous extent of that DOA example), mashing, while sometimes producing visually appealing effects, will get you hammered in competitive play - hell, even against the harder difficulty settings.
Good Lord, everything about Brad Burns is a ripoff of Steve Fox. Everything for the sound he makes when he punches, to his hairstyle to the way he sways from side to side and back and forth.
Also, your thinking of Jin’s powerup where he cross chops his fists. I’m talking about the one where he brings both his fists, knuckles up, in front of his chest and his fists glow. That one stops everything dead in it’s tracks and can be quite usefull if you time it right.
About the foot positioning thing, true Tekken doesnt use this but you gotta wonder if it’s really necessary. They do however, recognize left from right when it comes to throws. But getting back to the foot position, this in my opinion is just something extra they added just to kinda set the game apart. In a way, it works just like being able to set up attacks when your enemy has his back to you, they just added some extra dimensions to this theory. If they wanted tekken can do they same. Tekken recognizes when an enemies back is turned, when they’re on the ground, when they are to the left, when they are too the right, I’m sure if they felt it was necessary they could go and add a little more by recognizing when left foot is forward and right food is forward. So the question is why did Tekken not bother with this? It’s not because they couldn’t do it in the Tekken fight system. But anyways, I’ll play this some more this week.
Wow, no one has ever made that comparison, ever. That is a completely original thought.
You are talking about b+1+2? Yes, it’s useless. It has startup, and even if it reflects something, you get no damage.
I’m glad you’re giving the game a chance.
By the way, the next big official Japanese tourney has been announced:
Heroism 2: http://sega-am.jp/event/vf4ft/
most tekken characters dont change there stance from left to right. i think hwoarang and only a few others do
Wow, is it just me, or are most of the people on here who support Tekken 4 have no basis whatsoever for their opinions? Just so you know VF players, these guys do not represent all Tekken players. Go to Tekken Zaibatsu (TZ) and you’ll see REAL tekken players post. Not any of this newbie stuff.
Andore: I was with you for a while there dude, but it’s pretty obvious now that you’re hating on this game. A lot of the stuff that you mention I’ve already gone into detail about, and on other stuff, it’s pretty clear that your knowledge of even Tekken 4 is pretty spotty (you aren’t the only Tekken player here that’s been doing this though). Are you on TZ? You could learn a lot about tekken from that site…
I’m interested in learning more about the techniques Cygnus described in the first few pages, kinda like a quick rundown on execution and the like. Are there any other techniques we’ve neglected to mention that seperate Virta Fighter from Tekken also? Finally, about how many players attend the VF majors in Japan?
Yeah…especially in NorCal…only 3-4 active players here…Feixaq and some others quit…Shou did as well…
I wish I was in C-Bus with all you guys
Heroism 2 is announced? Will it Sega be having live feeds again like OH4?
As a lot of people can see here, most of the posts here say “VF is too hard.” But I completely agree with you as well, you can play VF simple.
Some players don’t even Throw Escape or only just buffer one in. I don’t know about any other VFers, but I’m damn happy if I escape someone’s throw attempt in play. Some players just are all out agressive and just strike more than throw because of how well they can read their opponent.
Minami Kage I bet gets bashed all the fucking time for his style…so what. He actually is probably the only player I’ll respect who isn’t one of those Moralists/“Don’t down attack/pounce me after a round is over”/or whatever.
It irritated me when the other japanese bashed on Napoleon at one of the VF Carnivals when he just spaced with Jacky and used Beat Knuckle. It’s like saying he shouldn’t of won when he clearly was aiming to win, not to show off or some other bullshit.
Jaguarandine - I think he left out ARE (All-Round Evade). I don’t know the specific frame data on when you have to/when it’s best to use it, but it’s a technique where you can strike through your opponent’s throw attempt, or if they strike, you successfully evade. Think of it as like the “RC” in VF, but not as good. VERY good Kage players in VF:Evo use this a lot…because his 33P launches on mC, they can launch them for free if they throw for good damage. The command is like…Evade->P~d/f, d/f…Cygnus most likely can explain it better…it’s pretty hard to do, took me 30 mins in training when I tried =(
But now in FT, they made it not launch on mC anymore which I think is a good thing to make him a bit weaker…but I’m sure a lot of Kage players (I myself being one) bitched about it…but I agreed that he needed to be toned down as well. But as much as he’s been toned down, it didn’t stop the 7-8 kage players at OH4
I can’t think off the top of my head of what else he left out…some of them you don’t even NEED to learn to be “awesomely good” anyway…they’re just advanced tactics that are good to know…like “Chicken guarding” in CvS2 or wavedashing in TTT…while wavedashing is really good, I can probably safely say learning to EWGF constantly is more important. And a LOT of people show up at the VF majors…I can safely say a lot of non-fighting game players learned competitive play through VF there in Japan…mad crazy stories like VF getting in the way of life and divorces over VF as well…it’s that addicting.
ps. Cyguns tell Maddy/Konjou to buff up my Akira! Konjou Akira owned me for free at Evo
I didn’t know we had to go into frame rate, and which individual character or characters have special techniques that make them very useable character. Pizzacat asked which one you think is better from what I read. If we need a page of information we can do it but do not know why because it is easier to say I like tekken 4 more than VF4:evo.
I make it a simple reason that I like tekken 4 more than vf4:evo for the simple fact that I do not have to sit here talk about each game in god like detail and talk about moves, frame rates, misques or whatever. Both games could use a gravity button but we know how that goes. lol
Tekken > VF4:evo
And one more thing what does it matter what goes in Japan tourneys on this discussion?
I like T4 a lot more simply because I’m a noob. I got into VF for a while and learned a lot of the game’s dynamics (which are a lot more complex than Tekken), but I simply thought it was too complicated. I see 3d fighters more as something I play for a laugh now and then (I’m more of a 2d man) and VF simply doesn’t have the instant gratification of T4. If I would spend more time playing 3d fighters I’d no doubt prefer VF.
Seconded! Whoever said VF had good characters was talking out of his ass.
wow damn shame, how people like 2 play and see teirs before they would want 2 see true talent of the player… fuking hell people VF4evo isn’t that damn hard, shit it tells you the god damn moves, you can’t do them, work on your fuking execution. want to learn 2 throw escapes, learn the god damn throws. all you have 2 do is the last motion of the thrower and press throw. GENIUS HUH? T4 players that hate VF are fucking masher, get the most top teir player, executionless BUMS. my self as a vf player would like 2 aplogize 2 you T4 players that are entertained by the same characters that do the same combos each fucking evo. im sorry you need connect 2 damn character emotionally 2 play a game well. IM sorry we can’t keep bouncing a character 3039845972034705 times in a row with the same damn move over and over and call it a combo, realistic huh? maybe we like shiny lights and shit 2 entertain you simple people, hell press 4 buttons on T4 and you get fireworks. but hey if you guys can tell me the differnce between 1 Jin player vs another jin player id be glad 2 here it, b/c hell i know that fucking same 6 hit combo that every one sits around all day 2 use. but hey let me wait watch that instead of a game like Vf were you don’t see the same combos over and over, where there are NO GOD DAMN TEIRS, " coulda swore people wanted that " you won’t see the same characters over and over, and there is no real way 2 abuse the game. wtf, i don’t mind T4, its a game that has “SOME” good aspects but seriously, 2 down grade a game 4 its lack of players is just plain out stupid and 2 really TALK OUT OF THERE ASS!
I didn’t mean that everyone who chooses Eddy/Christe are mashers. I can use Eddy pretty good myself.
Oh and Andore…‘Brad is a ripoff of Steve.’ And Ryu and Ryo…they are like oil and vinegar right? Plese post any chain combos.
Use Aoi. Her moves (well…her counters) are stunning to watch.
I don’t even know why this topic was ever made; it seems acutely one-sided.
I like vf4’s characters. I don’t care about connecting with them emotionally or anything. Ill pick them because of the same reasons i pick characters in other games. I played TTT a lot and when T4 came out i rented it immediately. I thought it sucked hard. Felt that no improvement was made. No real innovation. I was dissapointed.
Picked up VF4 and loved every second of it. Even tho i prefer 2d. There is something about vf4 that draws me to it.
peace
Sav
I agree entirely, I thought that TTT was a pretty good game, then when T4 came out, I was seriously insulted. Frankly, I just can’t SEE why the game could be more popular, than VF4: Evo, but I am known as a bit excentric.
Why does this thread even exist?
Glad to see you gave it a fair chance and didn’t just look for the gimmicky bells and whistles.
-Nicholai!
Oh yeah. I forgot that the Tekken Zaibatsu forum members don’t like anyone having their ass kissed in reference to Tekken besides them!
Me newb? Heck you’re the one that sounds like a newb. I acutally went out, played the game and put some actual effort in explaining the differences in the game. All people like you and the newbs at Zaibatsu do is give vague answers!
Oh and I’m playing this and so far it’s looking like the conclusion is all the depth in VF is found in Tekken, tekken just spreads all the llittle elements out is all. And obviously the guys at Namco thought foot positioning was a waste of time and left it out. VF is masher and Tekken is not. Tekken has more colorful characters and better graphics. Tekken graphics are more photorealistic where the VF graphics look like very good 3d drawings.
And lately it seems like my only motivation to keep playing Virtua Fighter is to unlock Aoi’s big, red, kabuki wig that i see on the back of the game manual.
Wow, no wonder tekken is so good!11 omfg teh grafix!1
Doa > VF > T in terms of gameplay as well right?
Yeah, you definately need to STFU. Have you played the arcade Tekkens pre-T4? I’m so glad that TTT’s arcade version has such “photorealistic” graphics. You make me sick.
You know why Tekken can’t have foot positioning? Because of it’s button setup. They’d have to manually alter EVERY move in the game because Paul doesn’t know how to Deathfist with his opposite hand. Notice how every time you do a move that’s not in Hwoarang’s RFF stance, he jerks into LFF stance to do it? Poorly animated as well?
Yes, do us all a favor, don’t even go to TZ, just turn your modem off.
Heh. Yeah I think I’ll do that…oh wait a minute. No I won’t. Sorry dumbshit! What you think just because you kissed somebodies butt to give you some little shithouse avatar that carries a message that no one gives a flying fuck about that you are somehow in position to talk down to me? Well, if it’ll make you feel better than keep thinking that. And if I make you sick then I’m happy to oblige!
But all this jabber is worthless. I just wish I could get your little punk ass in a match then I’ll take your little crap theories and techniques you learned from evo and tekken zaibatsu and shove them up your ass!
1: Don’t hate because you don’t have an AV.
2: You really do need to STFU.
3: It’s not because of the AV that I talk down to you, it’s because you’re presenting your points in a way that I’d expect from a 10 year old. You present a superficial view on a game and immediately trash it. But that’s okay, just play the game and keep trying to find the CG endings.
4: Where do you live? I’ll guarantee more than a few wins in both Tekken and VF4. I’ve learned nothing from TZ, and I learned nothing from Evo other than to not enter a tourney in a game which the last time you played it was several months before.
I’m getting tired of random motherfuckers testing me, especially those who have a horribly narrow view on everything. Or simply have no clue of what they’re talking about.
