Which is better: Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution or Tekken 4?

I say that VF4:E kicks Tekken’s behind everyday of the week. VF requires much more skill to win in and the character design is far superior to anything Tekken ever had. I say Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution is the 2nd best fighting game ever (Power Stone 2 is the best).

Why must this question pop up every other week.

I love Tekken, hell I played Tekken before SF but VF 4 Evo is just hands down the best fighting game ever.

umm wtf? T4 sucked hard while VF4:FT is the best 3D fighting game ever=FACT

They each have their good points. It’s two different styles of play.

That being said. VF4 is superior. Tekken isn’t garbage though, and will actually get play in the US.

tekken 5 will be better than vf4 FT i bet, it seems so much faster now with lots of high low mix up, and damaging throws like vf4.

In my opinion Virtua Fighter 4 is too much of a mashers game. Meaning, you have to pop in a lot of button command to make new moves “appear” and “happen” whereas in Tekken you can make lots of moves happen separately from strings. Also in Tekken they tend to throw in more directional button input in their special moves. Plus in Tekken the fighting styles look more distinct in their execution whereas in Virtua Fighter a lot of the punches and kicks from the different styles look awful similar. That’s just my opinion.

Andore, stfu. You’re a moron.

You’re fucking retarded.

Virtua Fighter 4 is a very complicated and time consuming game to learn man,not like street fighter or tekken even tho tekken does have it’s difficulty.

There’s so much shit to learn in VF bud that it would make your head go crazy man,to many moves and that’s just one reason why it makes the game a masterpeice. But then again it’s all in your opinion on what game you like better, you don’t have to go for what people always say.

LOL…you asked for my opinon and you got it. If this thread is gonna be so Virtua Fighter biased then whey make it? If someone’s gonna say they like tekken and you all try to flame then what’s the point of asking which they like better. This thread should be, “Viruta Fighter fanboys tells us what you like about it!”.

VF4 is a much more complex and deeper game, but Tekken 4 is easy to pick up giving it an edge on fun factor and visually better than VF4 (actually, DOA 3 and Ultimate has the best graphics). However, gameplay > graphics.

Pleas explain to me how VF4 is deeper. I want some actual facts here not just people saying, “oh it’s harder therefore it’s deeper”. Come on lay down some actual facts and I swear tomrrow I’ll go out and buy a copy of VF4 evo.

Probably because you sound like you’ve played a completely different game. If youve even played with vf4:evo’s training stuff for 5 minutes you’d know that. Does tekken 4 have that … no… because simply there are no where near as many things that you have to be aware of to get the most out of the game.

Vf4 evolution eats tekken4. Vf4 evolution is so deep and its the best 3d fighting game. You can escape anything man! Too deep even for me brotha. But serioulsy only a moron will say tekken 4 is better than vf4 evolution. Nobody even knows for sure whats the damn tier list for the game. Thats how god like and balanced it is.

Training? What? Bah, forget this! It’s like I thought. Everytime you ask a VF player to point out all this deepness they never give you a straight answer. I will finish on this thread by saying I bought Virtua Fighter 4 and played it for like an entire afternoon just to see all the different things and endings (there are no ending movies btw) and took it back the next day. I did like their drunken boxer. Tekken has no real drunken boxer like him. Only a fraction of Lei Wulong’s arsenal is devoted to drunken boxing. They need to make a pure drunken boxer. But anyways, I was excited about the old man in VF but that is where the excitement ended. Nuff said.

I say VF4evo but I haven’t played T4 but I have played the other Tekken games. U could say that VF4 looks smahser friendly compared to T4(even so I don’t agree) but diference is that u most know when to input the comands at the rigth time also other stuff is when u do a sidestep it most be done corectly because if u gues wrong u are gona get owned. BTW sidestep is only the begining of stuff like doing a sidestep and attacking at the sametime. Knowing when to grab when ur oponent does a lagy attack and many more stuff that would take me sometime to write it down.

Can u also point out some stuff that makes T4 better.

Ok…

I am a avid Tekken and Virtua Fighter fan. I have played both games since part one. Virtua Fighter and Tekken (as well as KOF) are my favorite fighting game series of all time.

Virtua Figher Evo: Pros
-Deepest fighting game ever. There is no such thing as button mashers in that game. I don’t care who you are. You cannot button mash in VF. Period.

-Extremely balanced. There are tier lists. But you can win with every character. No one is that much more powerful than the other.

-Quest mode. Probably the best mode in any fighing game. Gets extremely hard. Plus the ability to customize your character is very cool.

Cons:

-Bland characters. Unlike Tekken, VF’s characters lack any sort of emotion. You can’t connect with them.

-VF is not for beginners. At all. Thank God for the trainning mode. Because VF is not a easy game to master. Alot of the moves are confusing. And some moves have the easiest command to pull off, but are impossible to do. Like Wolf’s Flying Meyer. (Ever try to do Akira’s Knee? It’s
K+G then release G after 16 frames?? :amazed:

Tekken Pros:
-A legend in the fighting community. Everyone has played it. Has a cult following, and is overall a fun game to play.

-Original characters. Until Tekken 3 (Well…I saw Only the Strong before), I didn’t know what Capeoria was. King was the first character I’ve seen do chain throws. And Kuma…a fighting bear.

-Next to KOF, Tekken has the most in-depth storyline. I (Don’t know about everyone else) makes the game much more interesting.

Cons
-Jin

-The fact that it’s a button mashers haven when it comes to Eddy/Christie.

-Tekken 4 was quite dissapoiting. It felt stiff and lacking any soul. I still play it. Just expected more. Mabye T5 will change.

VF4 has:

  • A training mode far superior to any other training mode currently on the market
  • Extreme resistance to not only button mashers, but scrubs.
  • Great balance. The top players were actually WRONG about what character would win the latest big tournies (many were predicting Lion).
  • More defensive options. This is part of what makes VF deeper - there are always multiple ways to get out of any bad situation.
  • Costumes and items and whatnot. They’re way fun.
  • A better throw game. Throws are a much more unique category of attacks with compelling advantages and disadvantages than they are in Tekken, where they’re basically short-ranged unblockables.
  • Better intra-character move balance. (Jin only has to use maybe a dozen moves ever, VF characters need to know about half their arsenal.)

This game kills t4 in every way possible. T4 was a dissapointment to me. Too broken and Jin just owns. He does,nt need all his moves to win a match. All you see in tournaments are jin vs jin and jin vs jin. Sometimes nina in there too. It gets boring seeing jin vs jin matches all the time in tournaments while in vf4evo use see all the characters in use.

I think the whole “VF is deeper” claim is bullshit. People just assume it is 'cause it’s a harder game to learn, mostly due to execution. Hell, the game’s difficulty is mostly with defense 'cause you can’t passively defend against throws and have to know character and stance-specific counters. It’s very easy to form a good offense in low to mid level play, as you can stick to just hit->throw mixup with great success.

In any given situation, Namco fighters tend to have more options and variables than VF. So if you judge depth by the sheer number of possibilitiers, then Tekken and Soul Calibur are a LOT deeper. Problem is, Namco games are notorious when it comes to lack of reliability (Soul Calibur 2 being the worse offender). Their systems are much more open, but can also be chaotic, so the long-term depth isn’t as good 'cause people just stick with what works.

In VF, it’s easy to tell what happened if something goes wrong for you. You stepped the wrong direction, or the stance wasn’t right for your combo, or you didn’t buffer for that particular throw, or they sabaki’d your ass. In other words, it’s clear what your options are all of the time. I’ve yet to experience something that made me go “wtf just happened” in VF, but that feeling has hit me quite often in Namco 3d fighters.
