So ive been living under a tree somewhere cause somehow i got confused and thought that misogynist meant a man that believed that women have their place in a household and its basically cleaning,cooking and taking care of the children (mans responsibilities are dying in war, defending the home turf from interlopers, working oppressively long hours in jobs that have high mortality rates etc etc)

Boy was i wrong. For the one or 2 other people that dont know, it means almost literally “hatred of women” so now im like whoa, hold the phone, i dont hate women, i mean i do make my wife abide by my rules, but she loves it that way. She gets to stay at home and take care of our son while also being able to go out and have coffees/shopping with her other housewife girlfriends on my dime damn near any time she wants. She has no boss constantly over her back and she doesnt lack for money to buy basic goods or even less than basic goods. My bank account is linked DIRECTLY to hers. When i get paid SHE GETS PAID. She does have a 3 day a week part time job that she does about 6 hours a day at… But its her choice. She doesnt have to do it. I make enough to support her my son and myself.
Point being that if im a misigynist… Then misogyny is good in my wife’s eyes.
But that didnt explain why so many young impressionable women (and men) out there think that being old fashioned is a “hatred of women”. I mean in my mind its anything but. Would i really work 84 hour work weeks at night time to support a woman i didnt love? It doesnt make sense to me.

That article goes on to say that since men are attracted to a females outside appearance, that the male is objectifying the woman and the woman is nothing more than an object to be acted upon, never once also pointing out that, yes, that is how most if not all interactions start out, but very quickly they turn toward (but what else do you have going for you besides your looks) in both cases for women AND men.
We may be outwardly attracted to the opposite sex… But that is only the beginning, there are alot of pitfalls to avoid on the way to becoming someones partner.

What you and everyone here has to remember is that at its core,feminism is about hating men. Everything men do, from how we look,how we think,how we experience attraction,how we communicate, the things we like and the things we do is ALL in some way or another a effort to control women,abuse women,rape women and finally dominate and oppress women. This is why there really isn’t a difference between your run of the mill casual feminist and your hardcore radical batshit crazy feminist. The differences come in the severity of the views but the ideas, the theories and the concepts are all the same.
Is there really any difference in saying"all heterosexual sex is rape"and saying"teach men not to rape"…is it any different to say"men should only be 10% of the population"and saying"there’s too many in politics we need more women". The baseline premise that informs these kind of views are all identical…they stem from a fundamental belief that somehow maleness and all things thereby in are flawed and dangerous. We’ve seen numerous examples of popular well connected feminist speak venomous lies against men all the time, that were more violent, that rape is second nature to us and that all the worlds evil can be traced back to testosterone.

The files contained here are from a private forum on a popular feminist site and the sick thing is that the women speaking here are not random forum lurkers…most have been exposed as being teachers,lawyers or childcare workers.

Depends on the anime. Fullmetal Alchemist did females justice and I’d love to see anyone try to complain about the woman characters in the show. But then theirs shows like bleach where I can still see some complaints.

I find that I can often sit down and have rational discussions with many of my more radical ‘feminist sisters’, and often they will agree with me in that female sexuality should not be a shameful thing that has to be censored. They’ll agree with me that we shouldn’t censor the expressive freedoms of artists, and that sexuality, as part of the human condition, should be able to be expressed as well.
They’ll even agree with me that we cannot simply ban or censor an expression simply because we see it as bad. As bad is often subjective, and even if it’s not we have a great precedent of choice set in our free society that people are allowed certain things even if it is bad for them.
But then the mob mentality sets in when a game or movie or whatever comes out and people start bitching about the exploitation of feminine sexuality, conveniently forgetting that artistic expression and actual people are two very different things.
And the people who are really stirring the shit and getting people worked up are the ones who profit from it. They’re the ones who want hits on their webpages or videos, or want you to buy a ticket to their panel or pick up their book. There are striking parallels to this and other movements which use injustice as a way to fill the pockets of the few. Some use race or ethnicity, here they use gender.
And the best way to keep the money flowing is to keep themselves relevant. And the best way to do that is to bitch and complain about practically everything, no matter what chicanery it takes to warp and distort the truth.
It then becomes very clear that they have no interest in a solution, as that would end the bitching and there would no longer be a need for a movement. They don’t want truth, they want controversy because it’s profitable.

I feel that a lot of people in this thread are suffering from a bit of confirmation bias. In other words, you’re seeking out only that information that confirms the view that feminism is bad or wrong. And if you can somehow quote or reference enough sources to validate this, you’ll somehow be right. However, the flaw to this line of thinking as that we could do the exact same thing to try and vilify virtually any group of people.
So if I wanted to prove that all SRK posters were complete shitheads using this method I’d have plenty of examples to pull from. And if I wanted to really drive home my generalizations I could even add “But not all SRK posters are shitheads…” after every single trollish example. The idea is that if I pile enough examples I’ll magically become right and prove to you that SRK posters ARE shitheads beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Consider that using this method I could create an impressive list of religious people doing all kinds of radical things in the name of their faith. It might even be enough to convince you that religion as a whole is somehow evil. Again, I might add “But not all religious people are like this…” to try and head off an any arguments to the contrary.
We might even use this same method to prove that Americans are terrible people by listing out all the horrible things Americans and America has done. After all, Americans have been responsible for some pretty fucked up things. We could make quite a list! “But not all Americans are like that…”
Or maybe list out all the violence perpetuated by minorities to try and prove that darker skinned people are a plague on society. You can’t argue with the numbers! “But not all minorities are like that…”
If you’re approaching the topic of feminism with the idea that it’s bad there is no shortage of examples of ‘feminists gone bad’ to back up your point. So where are all the ‘normal and well adjusted feminists’? Probably living normal lives and not doing retarded shit to get themselves in the media. Imagine the headline…“Feminist acts completely level headed and treats men and women equally”. Yeah I don’t think that’s going to get many readers.
I say this because a lot of the shit that is getting referenced in this thread (and even by that video of the guy repeating ‘but not all feminists are like that…’) are designed to create controversy and get hits. People acting in normal non-radical ways aren’t going to get reported or focused on. I seriously doubt any of you were at any of these horrible feminist fiasco events that have been referenced, so keep in mind the influence of media. It’s called media because it’s indirect communication (you’re using a medium). You weren’t there, someone else is telling you about it.
I see myself as a feminist and I’m definitely saying that I’M not like that.
A lot of the shit that has been posted and referenced in this thread to discredit feminism disgusts me as well. Just because a lot of shortsighted people are getting a lot of attention for being dipshits doesn’t mean all of us are that way nor does it mean we support those views. I personally don’t see those portrayals as being fair to feminists in general and I don’t see such extreme and fundamentalist views as being a true representation of the values of feminism even if others would try and assert otherwise.
As far as why it’s called feminism, it’s because in the realm of gender equality the female gender has traditionally and historically been oppressed with fewer rights, privileges, and freedoms. So getting females equal to males would have created equality in a classic sense, or at the very least, addressed a lot of the problems that existed in society. This isn’t to say that there were NO circumstances where women had it better, just that most cases of imbalanced social justice ended up with females being more limited and getting the short end of the stick. I would agree that the term ‘feminism’ probably should be changed, but outside of western society there’s a veritable fuckload of oppression directed at women simply for being women.
But feminism isn’t the only group whose name was born in a time of assumed disenfranchisement. Look at the NAACP. A lot of people take issue with their name as well, and they insist they’re not only concerned for colored people. [/details]
