Just to put even more decisive closure on the "what true feminism is"debate…
NOW is by far the largest and most politically and financially powerful and influential feminist organization in the world. All their activism efforts and goals aim specifically to benefit "women only"and this quote from them sums up best just how much for "true equality"the largest feminist organization is really about:

In the eyes of feminist, only addressing 50% of the population equates to equality. Another interesting point to note is that several of the initiatives discussed are addressing issues which in most cases don’t exist or have already been debunked thoroughly such as the "pay gap"or “glass ceiling”. The most fucking unbelievable point was the talk about reproductive rights which at no point mentioned that men have none and believe it or not they want to instil a thing called"caregiver credit"so that “women will no longer be penalized in their retirement years for having dropped out of the paid workforce to care for children or family members”…just wow.
Naturally any reforms to assist the plight of the homeless(being overwhelming male)or to help stimulate sectors of employment which brutally devasted millions of men due to the recession seemed to have slipped this particular juncture of NOW proceedings. Also seems like the unevenly high death toll of men in the workforce or the epidemic of child abuse at the hands of mostly mothers or female caregivers was also a omitted point of interest…I’m sure it’s something they will get to eventually:)

She’d destroy me! Fortunately she’s not in my weight class. Weight class is a different example of discrimination, if one would put it that way. But I doubt people would say completely do away with weight classes for professional fighters. Weight sure does matter, but at least they allow the smaller/lighter people to compete upwards in weight classes. The same cannot be said for women. If a woman wants to compete with men, why don’t we let them try? Some sports allow it, some sports don’t (at the higher levels of competition and in NCAA)
The truth is, we don’t have wide spread evidence to support the separation of men and women in sports. What we already have is, men and women generally compete in separate categories. So we only have wide spread evidence to say if they compete separately, here are the differences. For instance, in Tennis, among top players, men generally serve at a higher velocity than women (See quote below for why). We don’t have evidence to say that if women joined men’s Tennis, that they’d never compete with the top players. Perhaps in the first generation they’d rarely win, and people would say so men and women should be separated. I’d argue that we’d have to wait until a whole generation grows up competing against each other, then who knows how it will end. These are top athletes and they are already the outliers, so there could be an woman who destroys all competition, regardless of sex.
It might be sport specific.
An example of equal competition would be shooting:
Could they compete equally in basketball or football? What about MMA? Swimming? Running? Fencing? Video Games? Remember, I’m talking Olympic or professional level. There are measurable disparities such as record times for swimming and running. But could that woman in the picture above play on the offensive line in football? I don’t know.
I often think we should do away with gender in sports as well.
However from the research I’ve looked into its more then just muscle mass that men have over women in athletic activities. The kind of muscles men have are different too because men have more type 1 and type 2 muscle fibers and generally have bigger bones too. I remember reading women were vastly more likely to suffer certain types of joint and muscle accidents then men when getting at the highest level of athletic competition too,not to mention that even if a man and women weigh the same weight with identical height it doesn’t mean she is as strong or as fast as him just due to the simple biology of how their bodies are built. Women retain more body fat even when profession runner thin and while some of these differences might not seem like much it makes a big difference at high level competition where every advantage comes into play.
This isn’t to say that I don’t want a merged division though. I think female athletes shouldn’t have a seperate division and I’d love to see every sport be co-Ed from now on. I think like you said, the first few generations will see women be completely destroyed but eventually they could adapt and maybe be slightly more competitive. Certain sporting events have already seen successful women beating men like in fencing,lower league wrestling and skill based sports like shooting. However if I was a betting man I would presume women would ultimately always be lower rung athletes with very disappointing results if sports became co-ed. I remember reading a article about a guy who compared the results of Olympic female gold medalist a few years back against the men’s times, and what he found was that these elite female gold medalist had times that were actually beaten by athletic 14-16 year old high school boys.
It would be interesting to see regardless but I would feel sorry for female athletes because they would need to overcome the biological disadvantages and skill disadvantages as well…but who knows maybe a woman MMA could fight GSP and win.
