What's with the SSB Hate?

I went to Winter Game Fest in like January, and they had SSFIV Brawl and Melee. SF took the main stage and was streamed and such, but smash bros still had a good amount of room. No one really complained or anything. Heck they even had Reach and Black Ops tourneys there. Many people signed up for multiple games. So yeah, its possible to have tourneys like that.

My locals have smash/mvc3/ssf4/mk9

Smash player beat combofiend in grand finals of mvc3 awhile, but yeah there have been 0 issues with it as far as I know.

A) You just did
B) You just did
F) Would you like me to pull up smashers on record saying this?
H) Great, now if you can reassure that everyone on this site who has ever had a bad expericene with them lives in an area like you
I) That is a scrub argument that took little testing. It’s as though Smashers forgot the reason items were banned in the first place. How many tournaments and how long a time did it take guys to make these assumptions? Game released in March 9th and by Evo they were all banned. Hell, I think by April they were all banned.

Btw, you didn’t disprove anything as much as you plainly said that it was wrong. You also made many assumptions on your part as well. H and I were both assumptions. You can’t argue against the fact that you do have some seriously fucked up things in your community, trying to pass them off as saints with little examples and assumptions won’t prove a damned thing. They aren’t the devils that SRKers pass them off to be, but they aren’t the saints that you proclaim them to be either, the same goes for us.

How do items dimmish skill? Items are useless if you don’t know how to use them. I mean, If I get a Freezie, throw it, and whiff, it’s gone and I can’t use it again. If I’m sucessful, I get some damage and maybe a KO, but they’d have to be high in the damage department. beam sword is useful, but it doesn’t guarantee a win and like most weapons it can be dropped. Star rod and ray gun are useful for character without a projectile. Assist trophies and pokeballs are like the assists of Smash, and help alot of characters deal with runners and bad matchups.

I get that some stuff might be opted for removal, like the time clock or the Fan or the Dragoon thing, but you can auctually have a more competitive game with items in and fix some of the balance issues without modding your wii and hacking the game. How can a community that modifies a game to their preference be taken seriously?

Smash may or may not be a fighting game, but it sure isn’t a game of flat stages and stagnant playing.

Items could give some of the lower teired characters a chance against the likes of Meta Knight and Snake at the very least.

…of course Snake and MK could use them as well…and its all random who gets the item…and what item it will be…and say Ike for example got an item. Thats not what his game plan is about. You now have a situation such as Ike knocks you off edge, randomly a capsule spawns next to him, and he throws it at an angle and jumps at you with a nair, fair, or uair where you either have to take the item hit, Ike’s sword, or both…or get put in a position where you can’t recover. all because of something that spawned randomly.

Well things would indeed be a bit more random, but after several years of playing barebones Smash I’ve grown tired of seeing the same characters with the same gameplans play on the same stages over and over and over. Now obviously some of the stage bans are legit because they turn the game into complete retardedness, but a few elements of randomness here and there would actually be fine with me. Especially considering the route other “serious competitve” fighters like MvC3 are going these days.

Super Turbo has had the same tactics and characters and such for its years as well. Smash has grown past its first years, and there are strategies and characters that are just better. The Smash community want to be competitive and such. So putting in random things just because they would be “fun” or “interesting” makes no sense, especially when they take away from normal skill and gameplaying. Keep the “randomness” to counter pick stages such as Delfino or Brinstar, which can be managed and add a new layer of strategy to the gameplay.

Super Turbo’s a bit of different beast though. Brawl by its very intention is a game of randomness. And it’s not like I’m suggesting we turn Dragoons on Very High drops or anything, but I do think that some items can level the playing field a bit without giving one player or the other an inordinate advantage.

People playing that game for serious comp dont want that random stuff. Aight, how bout some examples? Pretty much every item, aside from being random, makes things hella broken and stupid.

You think an occasional Green Shell or Fire Flower is gonna “break” the game? Meta Knight and Snake already shit all over competitive balance in Brawl anyway.

Melee on the other hand, yeah. Melee should stay no items.

A & B) Of course I did, I can’t argue against something with no base, I was proving a point.
F) Oh wow, I’m certain smashers have said it, that doesn’t mean all smashers think that way.
H) It really depends where you live, I’m not covering the asses of smashers who have been dicks to you guys, but not everyone is like that.
I) Yeah? California played tournaments with items on, and had the full East coast over with all the pros playing…WITH ITEMS. And Brawl is not competitive in my opinion to begin with, I’m talking for Melee only. There is no item in Melee that doesn’t break the game. At the very least you have a game-breaking mechanic change, or a projectile that can cost a stock.

I actually DIDN’T make assumptions. I KNOW not everyone is a dick in tournaments, and I KNOW why items are banned EVERYWHERE without a second look. And I haven’t portrayed ANY smashers as saints. Just by looking at the SRK’s reaction to the thread I can tell there have been trolls and you guys have had to deal with it for a while now.

Why would you argue against one of m game if you change i tto melee when practically every here knows why items were banned there. I am talking about brawl. you can’t change the game becuase it helps you win an argument. IF it isn’t competitive, why is it still being played in tournaments, free money?
We are not grouping them all together, but there are sure a lot of them guilty of what was being said. Like I said, assumptions everywhere. Read your post again and see where they are.

So in melee, items were banned becuase of blast boxes and capsules kills near instant. But in brawl they are banned becuase a bunch of people don’t like them? Items haven’t even been tested enough in a tournament setting in brawl for anything you are saying to be credible. We don’t know if items will solve the problems or make them worse, but whining random won’t fix anything, becuase you don’t know if it makes the game broken or not.

When did I “change games?” I have always been talking for Melee only, I just referred to it informally as “smash”. I said I don’t consider it competitive, and while I know it IS competitive (you said it yourself, tournaments and whatnot) what I ACTUALLY meant was that I don’t consider Brawl competitive compared to Melee. My apologies for the misunderstanding. If there are any, point them out.

As for Brawl items, just because an item is random doesn’t make it FAIR. Metaknight has such an extreme mobility, aerial and otherwise, that he would actually benefit from items MORE than other characters. With his already broken gimps, he would add projectiles to his list. This hasn’t been 100% tried and proven, and I don’t really care to research it much because I’m not all that interested in Brawl, but it has been tested on a small scale and fast characters are always prone to getting items rather than slow ones… in case you haven’t noticed, fast characters usually dominate the tier lists, leading to them getting even a greater advantage.

I’ll go ahead and say it, and I don’t care if it makes me a “scrub” or whatever. Ban Meta Knight’s broken ass. It’d REALLY promote character diversity and make the game a lot more fun overall.

He’s never going to get enough votes for a ban. Too many people play him already. You might as well pick up a character with a decent matchup vs MK or drop Brawl alltogether. It’s a bad game in the competitive scene anyways; just pick up Melee.

Seriously, you might as well play SF2: CE. Just don’t play Brawl.

Don’t trade in your copy though, the mods that are out for it are awesome and we have Project M to look forward to.

I hate brawl because smash scrubs always have to bring it up on srk. Smash on srk is very taboo. Don’t mention it unless you wanna get hate honestly. This is srk for "fighting games " if you wanna play party games go join gamefaqs

So the Smash community is gonna take his hacked version of Brawl and run with it as a tourney standard for competition? Anyone else have a problem with this?

The Smash community doesn’t own Smash, Nintendo does. What gives them the right to take Nintendo’s game and make it into their own? Yeah, many games in the FGC have hacks and mods that people play for fun, but Smash is the only franchise I know of where the community says “We like our version better.” Of course, the community doesn’t speak for everyone, and they’ll be a group of smashers who will hate Project M and make their own version of the game called Project M+ that gets rid of all the stuff they hated about Project M. Now you have a divided community where everybody’s playing a different version of Smash with different tweaks and a different rule set, which has already happened.

As far as items being random goes, there’s a lot of random stuff in Smash. Characters and stages have random elements, and Sudden Death has random bom-ombs raining from the sky. Random is a poor excuse for no items, and you can’t get rid of the random element without completely overhalting the game so why try? Why not just accept it as a a part of the game and play on?

Smash won’t be respected because I’ve never seen a smash player respect the game for how it was published. We play with our game’s limitations, why can’t you?
