What's with the SSB Hate?

Old SRK’s opinion on smash bros. Where did it go wrong?

I thought Melee was more fun simply because of the speed and the freedom you had in how you could play.

Brawl feels canned, watered-down, and just generally not as pleasant as Melee.

I hate liking smash bros as well as traditional fighters. Real smash bros players don’t come here asking for “SRK approval” they don’t care about SRK. SRK is mad ignorant on smash, I don’t blame them since they don’t play the game, but some of these rebuttals are wack. Smash is a fighting game, especially since there is no pure definition to a fighter, and if there was, its should along the lines of “A game where you use your body to hit your opponent”. But then retards will be all “Mario Party etc.” like a post a few above me. Well for one, Mario Party is a mini game…game. It has a fighting mini game in it, so that specific mini game is a type of fighter. Then there are the dumb posts like “Smash bans everything lolz” only things banned is stages and items. Items to stop the randomness, such as exploding crates(which was stated earlier as the reasoning behind banning items, which I’m not sure on the credibility of that but exploding boxes is still a random aspect), and stages, which should be for obvious reasons. Isn’t Akuma banned in some HDR tournaments? Then people will go on and say “oh you gotta ban stuff and change rules, lol not a fighting game, not competitive”. Football isn’t a sport, they have to change their rules and ban certain things. It sounds quite a lot like that really. Its not just a simple ban, it a tweak to the play to better it for competition. I forgot the next dumb response, so I’ll continue my 2AM rant somewhere random. The rules of smash aren’t governed by a group of private “elite” people. Each tournament has their own set of rules, most of which are all the same. Community is immature is quite a statement since you don’t even check it out, since you aren’t a fan I, once again, don’t blame you for. But blindly generalizing a community for a few individual’s activities is ignorant. Nobody says smash is the deepest game ever, if so they are joking, or stupid. I think thats everything I read about.

^
It has more to do with the fact that the more ignorant smashers that post ifnorant topics making ignorant statements attracting more ignorant smashers talking like they know what they are talking about fighters.

“Fighters, all you have to do is guess where to block, smash has more options in movement, therefore it is deepererer (Which is kind of opposite if you ask me”

I believe the only smart individual smashers to post here were Alphazealot, BaegalsRZ (however the fuck you spell it) and Forward (or atleast I think that Seanboy is him). I suppose the smarter people of that community decide not to waste time here, what with all of the “09ers”(You guys make new guys look terrible by proving myths true all the damn time) posting even more ignorant statements about smash they don’t know about.

“Smash is so easy. Easy execution. Smash isn’t deep. L-canceling is easy as fuck to do consistently, even though I never played smash before, I am just trying to look cool and smartz. Try doing a combo into an srk in st”

These topic bring out the worst of both communities, which is why they should stop. Do you think SRK would like to be around a community that constantly lets the biggest idiots represent them, even though the idiots are likley to be the minority? If you wanna know why SRK hates smash, it’s topics like these that bring up terrible memories.

Man, you gotta scrub a lot of things.

To other people: I don’t know who the people who talk about smash at this site are, so I consider them casual players, and I really don’t give a shit about them, but people who actually play the game competitively, don’t give a shit whether or not SRK accepts smash. Smash has smash boards. Lol.

All of you people wasting your time here, elitist or casual, can stop posting here now. Thanks.

Edit: About the Evo thing. I’m pretty sure the smash community really doesn’t give a shit if Evo hosts smash, really. Real competitive smash players go cause’ it’s money, and that’s pretty much it.

I know there are a few smashers here that play/used to play the game (myself, admittedly. gimpyfish, my friend phear/tokiko) and I think the GENERAL consensus of MOST smash bros players and high level competitive fighters (im sure wong or valle would agree) is that brawl is crap and melee and 64 are gasp actual competitive fighters. I really like SRK, but its forums are similar to smashboards- its full of loud possibly ignorant/trollin people that are nothing like they are online in real life. Seriously, fighting games (smash bros included) and its community are really awesome, cool, and are full of great people that are fun to be around…if you know them in real life. Otherwise it seems all most people do online is argue, berate each other, and be all around assholes.

I never heard a good argument as to why every item should be banned. Does a little old smoke ball really make much of a difference? You know mostly all fgs have a random factor in it like when two people try to air throw each other at the same time in SF.

Every item should be banned. If youve played a diddy kong, you know how stupid items are. That guy has combos in a game where there shouldnt be combos.

Except items in melee ( a frantic and crazy game where all of the characters and items are on steriods) have exploding capsules, which kill on contact. They could not turn those off without turning off items. That was justified.

Brawl is just… fuckery.

I always notice that a thread concerning Smash always has a lot of immaturity in it. Also what would they do if there was no option to turn off items like in the 1st game?

Smoke ball should be banned because it makes it hard to see things that would require tight timing to punish. I.E. G&W Bair.
Plus picking it up could mess up your commands

Also, brawl is a good game, just people spend to much time talking about it instead of playing it. Just fucking play it if you want to, and don’t if you don’t. Good shit, people.

Also, if there was no option to turn items off, then tournaments would have continued like they would have in 2008, when the game first came out, with items on. Whether or not the community would have died out for it, I couldn’t tell you.

You can turn off items in Smash 64 (perhaps my favorite smash bros game)
If they didnt have that option it probably wouldnt be competitive.

I have to disagree. Well at least, brawl isnt nearly as good as the other two smashes (ive played all 3 a lot, brawl the most)

Okay? Good for you. Formulating your own opinions seems to be hard for people now-a-days. Glad you made it out of pre-school.

Whats with the hostility?
Anyway, Brawl is a slower game that requires less thinking, tech skill, reaction time, and you are not rewarded as well for your hits. Its less balanced in the SFIV sense that “everyones-a viable!” and yet you see domination by the same people and characters. Melee was “less balanced” but shit you saw people beast with Mewtwo, Ness, Bowser etc. Finally Brawl is more random. Randomly tripping? Some moves/dodges having different frame datas? (some sidesteps/rolls have a random amount of invul) No combos but infinites/chain grabs? wtf.

Lol you’re one of those players who aren’t actually good at brawl, and complain when they lose to stuff, and then say melee is better, when they’re not good at that either.

Anyways, you have no idea what you’re talking about, and everything you’ve said so far is totally biased, so that’s all I have to say.

mmm im not really good at any fighting game. Doesnt mean I dont understand it and have no experience. I dont really complain when I lose to anything…I only get mad at my own lack of skill or bad reaction/decisions etc. 64 and Melee would be more “rage inducing” games by your standards, and they’re much better so that arguement doesn’t hold much water.

Yeah thats great, you have no real rebuttle. Hmm how is it biased? I’ve played both games seriously, in tourney, Brawl more so.

Threads like these won’t stop anything, if you find the smash trolling offensive then your better off not even posting here.

lolpartyfighters

A) I can make arguments with no base too.
B) I can make arguments with no examples too.
C) There are in fact huge threads of discussion that the MBR takes into account before making decisions. The ruleset is explicitly stated as a recommended ruleset with flexibility on certain variables for TO’s to decide upon.
D) This is probably because the guys who have the sense to not continue the flame wars already left, and you guys are left with the flamers making the rest of the community look childish. Unfortunate for both communities.
E) Probably the same trolls mentioned earlier.
F) That’s just an assumption, again, I can make unfounded arguments as well.
G) Probably the same trolls mentioned earlier.
H) Depends on where you live. I’ve been to tournaments where the communities have coexisted.
I) They are random and they do diminish skill. Certain characters with excessive speed and no projectiles gain huge advantages from random items.

You argue too aggressively on things you don’t really understand. I can see how a lot of you are just sick and tired of Smash threads, and it’s sad, but that doesn’t mean you can just say negative things about Smash- and just because you have 500 people rallying under banner flaming smash- makes you right.
I don’t mean to sound confrontational btw, just trying to disprove some things you said that just aren’t true.

There is a base for my argument. It’s called personal fucking experience.

I’m glad that you live in Shangri-La where Smash players and the FG community hold hands and live together peacefully, and nobody says stupid shit about something they don’t know about, and Smash players don’t show up to tournaments and demonstrate why they’re the WORST and most hated community in all of competitive video games.

You can pass this off as just a “small” fraction of your community, that somehow keeps posting on SRK for the last 10 years and taking up space at tournaments, makes the entire community look bad, but the Smash community has a very bad reputation FOR A REASON.

You still haven’t said anything at all. Anyone can say they have experience, it means nothing if you don’t actually speak some logic. And yeah, I am passing it off as a small fraction of the community, because most of the community has enough sense to keep in smashboards.
