What's with the SSB Hate?

You fucking think saying fucking everything like fucking this makes you look more legit? Cooler? You’re so fucking grown up, I can understand your fucking points since you’re so fucking eloquent when you write like this.

Of course, we play smash, and it immediately makes us “smashtards”. Argumentum ad hominem much?

How about we make a deal? Let’s actually listen to what each other says, without trying to belittle each other and call each other names. That way we can actually break the chain of dumb threads like this and actually have a productive convo! How’s that for a change? So it’s cool.

Anyways, yes, Brawl is a pretty bad game when it comes to skill. We can both agree on that. Melee is not. We can leave the Justin Wong issue aside, even though smashboards has nothing on it. It’s Brawl anyways so who cares.

you’re either a troll or just stupid

Fighting is fighting, unorthodox or not.

Hate the game as much as you want, just don’t discredit it of what it is.

And you’re just plain stupid considering your post got nothing across.

It is obvious he wanted you to find your own mistakes in that post. Damn your so quick to argue that sonic would be jealous.

You’re actually defending someone that comes in and posts: You’re either stupid or a troll. That helps with nothing at all. You can’t expect someone to find his own mistakes. He made them believing them to be true.
He posted that yesterday anyway it’s not like I was sitting there and replied one second later so I don’t understand why you said I’m quick to argue.
Also, who the hell likes to be stupid.

If you’d be so kind, you could point my mistakes out yourself.

Really?

He is to slooooooooooow.

Ok, I was poking fun of how ALL of his posts are worded that way, as if it would make them better, explain how this is a “mistake”.

That is exactly what Argumentum ad hominem means. I don’t see what you are trying to point out.

Excuse me for trying to actually have a thread with some thought behind it. Maybe I’m too optimistic in the intelligence of the posters here.

Brawl is pretty down there when it comes to skill, there is no mistake there.

Smash 64 and Melee were legit fighters with combos, hella lot of hitstun. Smash 64 had zero-deaths up the arse and was very touch of death like. Nearly all the characters were broken in some way and had the most balance imo. Melee took massive amount of tech skill to play correctly, wasn’t as balanced but had much more depth to it. Obsly both games needed stage and item bans to be competitive, but with those in place it was good stuff.

Brawl… is a party game. No balance whatsoever (Goes down to G-tier, characters with 100:0 MUs, no exaggeration), tripping, camp fest, no legit hit stun, no true combos, slow, centralized as hell.

Community equally laughable. Bunch of weeaboos, trolls, furries, lolis, my lil ponnies, teenie boppers (and they allow 16 year olds as mods at that site, how else would I have 3 pages of petty infractions while here I don’t have a single one.) Top players manipulating brackets, getting Brawl removed from MLG, top player jizzin on people’s beds (I have friends irl who have housed M2K and said he did weird stuff in his room like locking the door… he finally got exposed here post 87:

Smashboards overrided the community poll to ban Meta knight who has ZERO bad MUs, unbelievable tourny results, super frame safe, retarded amount of options, invalidates over half of the cast to the point they will never see the light of the tourny scene (unless you just want to throw your money away) and this caused the community to fall apart more, and many of us (was once one of them) quit that crap and picked up MvC or SF.

So much salt they made a song on him

I know what I’m talking about, don’t you dare call me a troll or a Smash basher, I even wrote the stinkin Jigglypuff guide on Smashboards for Brawl. Look at her frame data, how depressing is that?

As a former smasher, I’m being mad honest here.

Let’s look at some “top level” footage of Brawl. If you dare say this is a fighter, you are in clear denial.

camp and planking for 5 mins.
TO changed the rules to favor his character, and this shit happened.

You say tripping doesnt do anything? This was GRAND FINALS… GAME POINT. Crowd was even upset/acting awkward

tl;dr

Brawl is a party game.
Brawl community is terrible.
I think Smash64 and Melee was legit but the producer of Smash specifically said he didn’t want it to be competitive so he destroyed Brawl and chances are will do the same to Smash 4.

This is why people hate Brawl or Smash community.
GG. Now, can we please stop having topics like this?

edit: And finally, M. Bison hates Smash too. True story:

Nobody said Brawl was a good fighter.

I still think its ridiculous to say it’s not a fighting game because it doesn’t live up to competitive standards. Nobody has convinced me otherwise.

It is a fighter by definition, just not a very good one because it has many party like qualities. I always say Brawl is a good game, but a questionable fighter. And if someone asked me if it was a competitive fighter I would answer “nope.”

First thing I heard today that I can’t contest. You couldn’t be more right.

Smashboards isn’t bad at all, most people are pretty tame in terms of being a community.

I’ll call it a fighting game, I’ll leave it at that.

Average Smash Bros Brawl player:

-Is a furry/and or has an anime avatar
-Is incredibly unhygienic
-Has never played a game that’s not Brawl in a competitive setting
-Socially awkward

At least one of those always applies, although a lot of the time you get all four in one!

Ok Imma try and be as understanding as possible while giving a point. So please try to bare with me on this cause you actually took the time to take this seriously. And by no means am I here to force you to accept smash or even like it for that matter. I just want you guys to understand something from a different point of view.

I’m a person that likes a large assortment of FGs. Street Fighter, Blaz Blue, KOF, Smash, and etc. Some I like more than others, but Smash is a game I grew up with and where I got started playing competitive. I was honestly like you guys too. I played Smash for fun and just for the hell of it. Me and my pals would always come together just to play it. However one my friends one day found some vids on high level smash. What interested me was how smooth the players played and how moves stringed together. That was the “interesting” aspect of the whole thing.

Anyways that’s what got me started. I was able to move from smash to play SF (3rd Strike being my favorite of all time), and GG. I was able to take those games seriously cause of Smash. I learned a lot of things from being on Smashboards. Lots of terminology that I wouldn’t have really understood if I had came here to start with, But regardless I understood what the terms meant and how they were to be applied in the FG community. So now with that out of the way I can finally begin.

  1. "Whiners who pre-emptively ban things rather than truly analyzing if they’re broken"
This is not necessarily true. When I first came to the boards and started doing research there was a wealth of info on stages, characters, moves, and items. They were broken down so hard to the core that I didn’t think I’d have the patience to read all of it but I managed and learned a lot. The “whiners” I think ur talking about are the newcomers, elitists, or scrubs that like to fill the boards with crap or unuseful info.

  2. "Devising unnecessarily complex and arbitrary rulesets that strip the game of fun and strategy"
To be honest that’s not fair to say. Let me ask you something. When you guys play street fighter at high level, is it fun? If your answer is “Yes” then my reply to you is “of course it should be. Your playing it the way you guys want to play it, seriously, with concentration, execution, game knowledge, strategy, and trying to figure out your opponent or make him do what you want him to do.” To you guys (including me) this is fun. Competing to see whose better and who dominates is our motivation. But some might argue that your way of playing isn’t fun and that it’s too complicated or confusing to get into (Casuals/Noobs), and those people call us nerds, elitists, or stereotypes like people with no lives cause you spend all your time learning how to play a game instead of having a life and getting girls which to most of us here we can agree is not true. So to say that how we play isn’t fun is not true. The way we play not fun for you, which is ok it doesn’t have to be. Play the game how you think it should be played. After all you paid X amount of money to get and own the game. So shouldn’t you play it the way you want? Just don’t push your views on us like how you say we push our views on you.

Also if your answer is “No” then please elaborate as to why it isn’t. Cause to me if you aren’t enjoying the game you bought you might as well sell it or get your money back unless you like having a lot of frustration come your way.

  1. "The governing decisions made by a private “elite” body on Smashboards rather than by community consent and opinion discussed in open public"
I’m going to attempt to answer this argument with the use of our government. Behind closed doors our government decides laws, controls our economy, and does things were not aware of. They are the people on top or of a higher social status than we are. Do we question what they do or say behind closed doors? Yes, cause we’re human and we’re curious. But when they finally decide to release info to the public that’s when everyone talks about it. Its in the Paper, on TV, on the radio, and in some shape or form the government is gauging our reactions to what they have released and talk more on it. I would go on but I’m not in the mood to explain in full how our government works. Anyways the same could be said for Smashboards Backroom. They Pick the best people who have had the biggest impact to the community, whether they be pro or not, people who are knowledgeable and well respected to debate about key issues and knowledge given through the community about the game. Things like Teir Lists, character Knowledge, stage knowledge and other things relating are discussed. Their system is not perfect but neither is our government. The goal in mind however is for the betterment of the community as a whole. If still don’t don’t agree with me then there’s nothing more I can really say.

  2. "The community composed of immature temper-tantrum throwing man-children (perhaps an unfair characterization, but the Smash community does have a stigma of being more immature and socially inept than other communities)"
Don’t really have an argument for this, for the simple reason that it’s true. Most of the members do act very childish to the point where you wonder if an intelligent thought or a mature notion would survive in their heads for a second. But not all of them are like that. Just a good majority. I find your comment funny lol.

  3. “Smash players saying “Smash is the deepest and best fighter EVER” despite not playing anything but Smash"
You know what’s funny, half the smash community says the same thing about you guys. “Street Fighter is the deepest and best fighter EVER” despite not playing anything than Street Fighter.” I bullshit you not that’s what they say. They’re really convinced of that. I for one know this isn’t true for both sides so we can drop this.

  4. "Smash players proclaiming that Smash IS a real fighter despite not playing anything but Smash so how the fuck would you how a real fighter works anyway?"
This is also something similar they say but its more like “How would they know anything about Smash when they don’t even play the game? How can they talk shit when all they play is Street fighter? Maybe if they actually picked up the sticks and actually try and understand the game like we do they’ll finally get it!” Anyways I think of Smash as a fighter. Maybe not in the same mindset like you guys do but to me its always been a fighter and always will be. There are many things I could say that would justify this but I’d rather not cause I know it’d be pointless. All I can say is stick to whatever opinion you have on this subject cause it’s never gonna change.

  5. "The FG community in general looks down on anyone who says “play my game because it’s better than yours” and then refuses to play anything else, in case you can’t tell."
Agreed, and People in all honesty need to stop that cause it’s not helping in any way or form.

  6. "Bad reputation in past events where SF/Tekken and Smash have been held and Smash players taking up large amounts of set-ups for Smash leaving much less for other games. In general, events which have co-held FGs and Smash together have been done and rarely have the 2 communities co-existed well. Either Smash players are upset because Smash is shoved into a corner at events where SF/Tekken is the main draw, or FG players are upset because Smashers take up too much space for the entire event."
I have no real comment on this since the tournaments I’ve been to with other gaming franchise involved have been good thus far so Idk if what ur saying is true or not, but if it is it sounds real petty.

  7. "For ITEMS. This debate is never going to be resolved. Suffice to say, a lot of people in the FG community criticize removing all items from the game, and the Smash community is never going to see eye-to-eye on this issue. Although it’s quite sad that many in the Smash community aren’t even aware of their own history and that items weren’t banned in Melee because they’re “random” or “diminish skill”, but because of exploding boxes. An issue that was actually FIXED in Brawl"
I didn’t play items in Melee for that reason too, but also for another reason. I liked my matches bareboned. I wanted to see how well I could do on my own merit. Now understand I’m not truly against items in competitive play because I main Peach in Smash and she can generate her own items in game (Turnips, Beam Sword, Bob-omb, and Homerun Bat I think) and when I use those items I use them as well as I possibly can. My friends work to make me lose my item so they can use it themselves or get it away from me (Imma beast! :P) But when they get the item I gotta work past it which isn’t too hard since I know what I’m doing. and honestly this wouldn’t be to hard for others to do as well. I do however see why people don’t want items in their matches. To them it’s more rewarding that way.

For those that are saying “Well that not the way the developers wanted you to play the game” as true as that may be, there’s also the case of the developers putting in the option of setting stages for random, taking off items, changing the rules, and having different gametypes. They gave you these things so that “YOU” can play the game the way “YOU” want to play it. You payed for it didn’t you? So you or anyone else shouldn’t get on each other about how one plays a game. If it’s not you playing it, get over it. It shouldn’t bother you in the least.

Lastly to add on to what I was saying before, an example for why people play without items. In Black Ops for those that have the game; there’s a Barebones mode. I wonder why that is? Maybe it because some people or a lot of people don’t like the killstreaks in COD and would rather not play with them on. Does that make them wrong. The game came with Killstreaks yet the developers put in a barebones mode. So is it against the law for those people to play COD who choose to play it without killstreaks? No because the developers put that in the game for a reason. There are no preset rules for what you do with your game once you bought it. If it’s in the game then that means it’s there for your benefit to use as you see fit.

Anyways I hope I was able to clear up and explain a lot of things and that people will try to understand where I’m coming from. Sorry for it being wordy and I’d like to apologize for the members of Smashboards coming here and making these pointless Threads. I hope this stops >.> This isn’t making us look any better.

You should get out more into any game you play if you think this.

~

I don’t get where people are saying as well how Smash didn’t test items and such, we did pretty extensively. Same thing with stages.

Beautiful.

It goes to show how long people have been around for…

OK, despite your wall of text, your response actually is one of the more rational ones I’ve seen, so I’m not going to disrespect you for that.
In fact, I would say that I can understand your points on all fronts except for two, which I will elaborate on:

I would argue that most fighting games at the highest level are not fun, for various reasons. This is not to say it is completely unenjoyable, or that top players don’t have fun in the games they play, but at tournaments for the most part you don’t see top players get eliminated outside of top placings and go “aw shucks I lost, but at least I had fun”.
The goal of a tournament is not to have fun. It is to be a competition, a measure of skill and ability.

As for the other point, about Smashboards being like our elected government…just, wow…
