I think anyone would have trouble figuring out a whole lot in 5 minutes. We’re lucky to get this much info from only being allowed a lil more time than it takes to pop popcorn

Motion commands dont take long to run through, then all you have to check are bf.lp and dbu.lp.

Agreed. Hope they mean just the range. How does it make sense for a nigga that uses his hands more than anybody to not have a 3 frame jab?

I can’t really add much more than what is in the article. When the story mode drops, you’ll understand why I didn’t have a ton of time. I had to avoid killing the CPU character as much as possible while testing things out. Balrog was doing decent damage against the on screen character … I struggled to get V-Trigger without killing the other character, and I wound up accidentally winning before testing swing blow.

Re: Headbutt execution: I tried the classic charge motions, QCF, and FQCF (both Kick and Punch), but nothing came out. There’s a very small chance I could’ve fucked up the execution (or it’s QCB? I think any quarter circle execution would be strange considering everything else is charged). That part of the session was definitely, “Try out what you want and draw your own conclusions” … but I feel like they would’ve said something if I fucked it up. :wink: If the V-Skill works the way I think it does, I totally understand dropping it.

Re: Jab, I don’t have frame data. In the build they let me play, it “felt” slower than IV jab. This was over a week ago, so … I can’t remember specifics (if it was recovery, or start up, or what). The “less jabby” comment confirmed what I was sensing. Who knows how they’ll tweak this thing before they drop it on us.

No one reasonalbe is expecting you to have frame data, people are just jumping to conclusions. His jab being slower could very well be what has happened to everyone else cast wide
Is he 3 bar or 2 for V-Gage? I don’t remember if that was mentioned.

Did you try HCF&HCB +Punch/Kick?

I left that out because I am not 100%, but I want to say three. I remember struggling to fill it (not that it’s difficult to fill, but I was trying to fill it without killing the CPU :P).

Best news is that he is charge, that makes me feel okay about him already.

He may still have a headbutt, may be motion. I remember when I played Glacius at Evo I thought he didn’t have the Cold Shoulder anymore because I was trying to do it charge, then turns out it was qcb+k. I didn’t know that until after Evo.

So now that it’s confirmed that Balrog is a half mexican guy with a command throw with no boxing gloves and kicks, how do you feel?

Does he still grunt and growl when he does his specials? How is his voice acting?

@Sosage - how was his walk speed and dashes? does he have an overhead and/or crossup? did you try his v-reversal.

I’m afraid I don’t remember it enough to say anything useful. If he seemed super slow or really fast, I would’ve picked up on it and definitely remembered.

Honestly I was trying not to say anything but he has a sambo look to him. Their in game models tend to look different so hopefully that won’t carry over. Somewhat annoying that anime artists still do that. The rest of the character looks great.

As a person who always mains Balrog, or at the very least the closest charge punch character available, hearing that he he didn’t get converted to motions pleases me greatly.

Headbutt may or may not be gone but as long as he still has a good AA option of some sort and a way to extend combos in its place, I don’t really mind.

Zang and Mika have been holding me over alright but they aren’t Balrog. Birdie doesn’t even scratch that itch. I need Rog.

it wouldve been hella interesting if they reintroduced what he had in SF2 Hyper Fighting which was the ability to power up the attack power of his special move depending on how long you held all 3 punch or kick buttons down.
