Oh, for anyone that was wondering on how to extend combos with Ammy I figured it out after watching Phil( I think ). Basically it works the same as extending with Rapid Slash. After Buster xx Lightning, call Ammy, st.S, j.S [ Opponent falls into Cold Star and knocks them back up ], H Sentsuizan. I tried using another j.S but they ended up getting knocked into Cold Star again and I lost the hard knockdown, i’m sure it works if you change the timing but Dive just made it more consistent.
Aside from that ( I can’t use it to double extend combos, because my 2nd assist doesn’t recover in time for the relaunch and if I use Cold Star last I just have issues with them popping out ), I use it with the basic ground extension of LMHf+H,Cold Star Hits, MHf+H, into Grimey Corner carry just because it makes it a bit easier to land since they end up right in the corner and I don’t have to stretch to get the last relaunch. Also makes it so I don’t have to start with the charge. Cold Star is pretty neat for Zero, makes it extremely hard to see TK Hienkyaku L double instant overheads, especially when white Ammy is jizzing all over you with a white Zero is humping you.
Especially when I always pick Bonne Wonderland as the stage.
I use the ammy extender in the end of my combos and yes the timing at first is really weird to do especially when falling down with the air S to get the hard knockdown after them being caught in cold star. If you feel like hitstun in your combo is really high you have to do air S really early as your falling and it will work because Air S has a pretty big vertical range so as your falling it will hit the oppenent caught in the cold star that way they don’t pop out if hitstun alot.
Also yes cold star is really good for setting up the TK instant overheads. I’ve caught alot of people online with it and using S or M for the fast overheads it’s really crafty.
oh I wanted to try Ammy but I couldnt get the Cold star ender, is there any vids of that? because I usually do the double relaunch into otg and then the coldstar/rapid slash ender, but in the cold star one, they get hit by the assist but fall out immediatly
I’m picking up ultimate after a long ass hiatus and I want to switch up my team a good bit.
I currently run Zero-Y/Sentinel-A/Wesker-B.
I want to try to get combo extenders on my team and I want to take wesker off of my team because lol X-Factor crutch. I was thinking Zero/Vergil/Strider even if its team glass cannon. I’d rather not run Team Japan if I can’t help it.
Another team I want to try is Zero/Frank West/???. I don’t know who would be a great anchor for this team though. Maybe Dante on anchor due to the combo extender?
That question probably belongs in the team thread but, I don’t like Zero/Vergil/Strider that much due to a lack of a real horizontal assist ( Rapid Slash is alright but it leaves Vergil a little vulnerable, Zero can obviously cover him but I prefer using horizontal assists to cover myself, not the other way around ). Its got some nice combo extenders and all around solid team, but I feel both Vergil and Strider need a ton of disposable meter and I feel that Vergil is a much bigger threat if he can burn X-Factor freely, Strider without XF or meter is a bit of a liability in the back. Those 3 also require a ton of lab time ( Vergil not so much, but like everyone drops his sword loops ). Still, a nice team, just a few small holes synergy wise.
I don’t really like Zero/Frank/Dante, I don’t think Zero has any consistent ways to level Frank unless you TAC, Shopping Cart is an alright assist but nothing like Tatsu, and can’t be used as a combo extender and I dont think it can even be used to corner carry, fairly hard to convert off of as well IRC. Frank/Dante synergy is apparent but I feel like if you let your Zero get tagged early then its an extremely up-hill battle trying to come back with Frank/Dante. Dante anchor is pretty nice as well, but a bit too much effort to rely on for XF3 comebacks, not really a fan of Dante anchor, mostly because there are few 2nd slot characters that can get as much out of Jam Session as Zero.
So here’s a question for you guys. Zero seems to be… unanimously considered the best character. Yet… we never see him in tournaments. Like, ever these days. Why is that? If a character is that good, shouldn’t they be everywhere?
If you ask me, I think the 830 health might be a bigger liability than people consider.
Full combo > rekkoha > devil trigger > hard tag frank > super jump take a picture gets to level 4-5 pretty easy.
I don’t really like running Frank in the back, yeah I know its planned that you get Frank in ASAP but it makes running Frank even a bigger liability than he already is, because if your 2nd character gets mixed up on incoming, you have basically just thrown away any chance of winning.
As far as his tournament performance, everyone should know by now that tournament results reflect the players rather than the characters. If JWong stuck with Zero i’m sure he’d be winning majors with him ( He was a solid Zero early in Vanilla )
But other than that, we see a lot of poorly optimized Zero teams belonging to the top Zero players ( Stuff like Zero/Task/Wesker? ). Also we’re just not at the point where people are regularly playing Zero full potential, if there were more Mihe/Itashiwas running around majors we’d be seeing way more out of Zero.
