WHATAMIFIGHTINGFOOOOOOOOO!: the MvC3 Zero Thread

If you get hit with a character that can place more hit boxes on the screen than probably any of the characters in the game…you’re kinda supposed to lose. The character is practically walking Genei Jin with a Seiei Enbu activation super on top of that. LOL. His level 3 just happens to be a DP that covers the entire regular jump space. Give him good assist to cover and it’s hard to not kill at least one character with him.

It doesn’t matter how much health you have, it’s how fast your character can kill people while being able to protect themselves from being hit.

gtfo. Go back to your Dante boards and cry about Haggar! =P

bro, it’s okay. next time you faced this guy perform counching medium (using zero) from full screen and say “where’s your god now” ( okay I know his crounching medium doesn’t hit from full scrren, but sometimes I feel like it does, :D)

What is a good followup to a blocked jam session assist midscreen? I’m trying the following.

Teleport M behind while calling jam session. When you recover jump straight up. Time a command dash down as they get sent sliding on the ground. Depending on your timing you are on the left or right and get a free 50/50 after a 50/50.
You can also use jump back [S | dash S] to hit high left/right, or fake by canceling the that S into the dash down, or into lightning to crossup.

The most ambiguous seems to be the dash down low.

What is best? Are there followups I’m ignoring?

What alt for Zero r u guys gonna use?
Me, probably white with a white or blue Strider. Or Megaman Zero with Guy Strider.

Gonna mix it up between Zero,X , and Megaman Zero. Gotta keep the opponents off balance.

Grape Zero, Grape Hawkeye, And uhh… I dunno. Which Doom color would fit that the best?

Also, where did you get that avatar and where can I get one?

Made it myself, actually finishing one right now lol.

Hey guys so yesterday I competed in a tourney at Daytona Beach Florida. Was wondering if you guys would like to critique my gameplay and tel me what I did right and wrong etc and what I should keep on doing or stop doing etc. Luckily I made 2nd which is very humbling. Also in grand finals I feel like I lost because I kept running into haggar or doing the buster-> lightning when there was no hit confirm with the buster on my opponent. Well I hope you guys like the footage. I’ll post times of when I’m playing. Here’s the stream link. I am also the Zero, Ammy, Phoenix player by the way.

MvC3 footage starts at 55min for those interested in watching the whole top 8.
Me playing:
1hr 04mins-1hr 10mins: 1st match
1hr 39mins-1hr 47mins: 2nd match
1hr 58mins-part 2 (lol) Loosers finals.
I also play from the beginning of part 2 till MvC3 ends. Enjoy

What’s the damage output on your main BnB in the corner?

  • You’ve already recognized one of your biggest problems, which is an over-abundance of Buster -> Lightning. Sometimes you hit it and you don’t follow up, which could have changed a few of those matches. I think you should use Raikousen less after an air buster, because people will start exposing that shit.

  • I’d like to see more ground mix-ups. Cold Star is one of the best assists in the game for doing sleazy ground pressure into Hienkyaku for an insanely fast left-right. You know that, because you did it a couple times, but not often. Also something to not get predictable with, else you get thrown.

  • Less team supers. Looks like it’s a bad habit, but it’s not something I would bother wasting meter on.

Someone on the stream even mentioned it, but it doesn’t look like your Ammy does very much aside from provide an awesome assist. That goes a long way and all, but I just felt like sometimes you would have been better off with another character. Are you changing your team in Ultimate?

Other than that, I thought you were doing well. I saw some dropped combos, but those were probably tournament nerves and not execution problems. Keep up the good work and congrats on getting 2nd.

THanks man for your insight. Would you suggest me just like going online and just putting ammy on point with zero second and phoenix third and just practicing with her to try and get her game on point better? And honestly this team has been my day 1 team since the beginning. Not really interested and don’t care to play the other characters. I don’t even really know how to use them besides mission mode combo’s or visual stuff that i’ve seen other people do on streams and such. When I saw the trailers for everyone even before the game came out I had to have zero because I loved MMX4-5 and I loved Okami so I knew I would try and make those 2 work together somehow. Also after seeing everyone else I really like Phoenix and her transformation and stuff. It felt very DBZish lol so I choose her even though she had super low health haha.
And I’m keeping this team for ultimate. Just going to have to work around no block during air dash for ammy and phoenix’s horrible air game offensive game in ultimate.

But I’m going to have a new team with strider, vergil, dr. strange and I’m also going to have a 3rd team mixing up these 3 new characters and my 3 old characters and see how they mesh.

O and in the corner I can get anywhere between 510-690K depending on if I use super or not. I usually go for resets though so w/ super and/or resets somewhere around the 510-550K range probably.

And yeah I dropped some combo’s especially that first match against the phoenix player but yeah it was just an execution/nervousness error.

That’s a good idea, it’ll force you to learn Ammy better. Of course, I suggest doing it offline if possible, but that might be because I hate lag and my connection is terrible. (I can rarely finish a Zero combo online, so I just try to play offline at all times.)

I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with the team, it was just obvious that Ammy was the weak point. Like you, I used Zero/Ammy on Day 1 (For the same exact reason, no less) and they definitely have some synergy. Unlike you, I dropped Ammy. It’s unfortunate (for you) that Ammy and Phoenix are getting nerfed in Ultimate. I wish you luck so that you can work around those nerfs.

The damage on that corner BnB is kind of low, can you do the Steb ender with either of your assists? I assume Ammy probably works. It’ll really pump your damage output up.

What’s the Steb ender? I don’t know what that stands for sorry lol.
I also feel that the last big tourney here in florida I went to that my execution with zero was alittle better lol.
If anyone cares or if you care to check it out man by all means go for it. Here’s the link and here’s the matches I played in.

Me vs Flash M.: 1hr 2mins- 1hr 16mins.
Me vs Mike John: 1hr 14mins - 1hr 18mins
Me vs Tran: 1hr 26mins 45secs- 1hr 34mins
Me vs Flash M: 1hr 44mins- 1hr 50mins

You might want to practice doing the sogenmu unblockables. Cold star is outright the best assist for setting it up. Blockstring+ Ammy, cancel to sogenmu, jump h, land c.L. Probably worth spending a meter to kill Wesker/wolvie/problem character, even on a Phoenix team.

O sjohnst2. I know how to do that. The cold star has enough time so you can set that up. I usually use that one phoenix’s in the corner but I feel like using the meter just for that move is kinda a waste unless there’s a problem character already on mid to low health that I want to kill.

No biggie.

Basically, at the end of a combo you OTG with a dive attack while activating an assist that holds them into place; Jam Session is popular with this, I use Doom Rocks. While the opponent is being held there, you hit S which puts them into a launched state, but the assist will prevent their ascent. From this point you can do a TK L Raikousen, jump level 3 Buster, L Raikousen into a TK dive attack. Because the enemy is in a ‘launched’ state, the dive attack will cause the normal hard knockdown which you can then follow up with a Rekkoha.

Some assists are harder to do this with than others, but I find that if you leave out the first Raikousen it’s a lot easier to do and can be done with many more assists. You lose some damage, but it’s pretty minimal. If you’re really worried about dropping it, leave out both Raikousens and just do Buster into dive attack, but at that point you’re sacrificing a decent amount of damage.

Try it with Cold Star.

ok cool i’ll have to go to the lab with that and try out that combo. Will probably be really hard to do on ps2 pad though. O and by the way I just hold the square button when I play with zero (sacrificing light attacks which in my opinion aren’t really good unless ur going for air resets and stuff).

If you only hold light, then the first lightning will be impossible, but that’s okay, you’ll still get good damage from it.

o ok cool. I’ll still see if i can try it out. And thanks for your awesome feedback man. You’ve helped me alot.

Played Zero at Ultimate NorCal.

He’s still really good, no buster HKD takes some adjusting, it nerfs his abare so it’s harder to convert off stuff like random air-to-air hits. Buster special cancel is interesting but didn’t seem immediately broken. Lightning buster cancels seem good, you can combo off anti-air M and H Raikousen from certain angles.
