What Street Fighter Game should receive the hd Remix Treatement next

some people here don’t want another HD remake but with the recent success of HDRemix, i think it’s inevitable.

do you think maybe the street fighter III series will get an upgrade, or will the alpha series get one first?

I am thinking alpha since it came first but I hoping sf III series. Either would be bonus.

just make a new game, Alpha 4, with HD graphics !

After the giant headache caused by the art of HD Remix in terms of reaction, time it took, and money it cost, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Capcom Digital guys looked towards a Celshaded 2.5d TvC like look for another fighter they do.

Remember how long it took to get SSF2THDR out? It would be like that times 5 or so with the number of frames of animation in SF3, and just trying to get it done for SF2 caused them to cut corners. (not getting Udon to do it like they were going to, awkward looking frames) If they tried to do it for 3s, it would either look really shoddy or they probably wouldn’t even make money selling it as a $10 DLC release.

Realistically, 3rd Strike would not get a remix because HD Remix sold a lot of copies mostly on the name Street Fighter 2 which had the largest player base. A lot of that playerbase of casual players buying out of nostalgia have no idea Street Fighter 3 exists… unless they’ve heard of SF4 already. But a lot of people never played the SF3 games, and they never sold very well in the US.

Alpha 3 home versions did sell decently however, and seems to be the most likely to receive an “HD Remix” if they decide to do one. Personally, I’d love to see Street Fighter 1 HD remix because it would be sweet to play as Joe, Geki, and Lee, but in a business sense Alpha 3 would seem to be the most likely.

i still say a remake of sf1 is the best call

Street Fighter Alpha 3 Perfect Remix please, would be so fun, also Sirlin for lead design consultant!

No… SFA3 had enough compilations , they had the Saturn and PSX versions, the three DC versions (regular, Matching service edition and then the “Saikou Dojo” one, not to mention SFA Anthology.

Please…we don’t need another SFA3 remake…:wasted:

Couldn’t they sell it for more than $10? Regardless, I doubt they would even be able to meet the size requirements for live if they barely could with remix.

You have that backwards. They outsourced the between frames at first having Udon only do the Key Frames until it turned out the outsource company sucked and then did everything in house at Udon (Though now under time constraints).

Can I play SFA3 online with matchmaking on my 360? I rest my case…
Really I don’t need a remake, just SFA3 Perfect online is fine.

get on ggpo or 2df then lol

I might but I’d rather pay Capcom for it, and no I’m not joking.

you better pay for the failed netcode as well…

ggpo > life

Yeah just buy the game for w/e if you feel like supporting capcom, and then feel good about playing it with awesome netcode on GGPO.

You what the biggest mistake was in letting Udon do this in the first place?

They’re not animators!

I just spent almost 2 years in clean up before going back to animation and boy, it’s hard. Especially with complex characters.
You have to make sure everything moves fluently, that nothing wobbles, that the line is consistent, that the volumes(mass) don’t change, that your drawings are actually good*. It’s a nightmare.

So now you’ve got a bunch of guys who don’t have a solid grounding in anatomy or posing(from what I’ve seen), who are not animators and they have to do this? And on top of that, it’s in HD! Every single flaw is magnified for all to see!
That’s why I knew this was doomed from the start(visually).

A lot of the original animation in the SF series is actually a pixilated version of cut-out. When you look at ST in motion, specifically the idle animation, you’ll see that they’re basically built up out of seperate body parts. The part’s position is then tweaked from frame to frame, giving the illusion of movement.
There’s a bunch of software that’s out right now, in which you can make a vector based cut out character and move it around, simulating squash and stretch, muscle movement, etc.
It would have been ideal for this project, in which the animation is based mostly on strong key poses and very little inbetweens.

In stead, Udon chose to do this half assed animation where legs are vibrating uncontrollably(Boxer!) and things are morphing all over the place.
Characters are growing and shrinking and most of them seem to be traced from existing artwork and then badly re-assembled.
Check out most of the character’s heads. They seem to cock their head to one side, because their heads are traced from art in which the head is upright, but they just rotated it down, disregarding the perspective change in the face.

I’m sorry for the long rant and the relentless hate for this game’s art, but there is a lot of existing knowlegde about drawing and animation and a lot of people who could have done at least a decent job on this, which is why it baffles me that something like this could have been made.
Also, I’ll admit that I’m jealous of these people who actually got to work on an SF remake.

Street Fighter got me into studying anatomy. I’d draw these characters when I was a kid and proudly show them to my dad, who’d tell me the drawing looked nice, but the anatomy was off. (I’d draw one big muscle on the front and one on the back of the arm. There, it can now bend and stretch. Perfect!)
So in order to draw them well, I had to study. It was such a great motivation.
Now I see an actual remake of the classic game that inspired me and the art is completely butchered!

I know that there probably wasn’t enough money to do it decently too, but I don’t think that’s a good excuse. If you don’t have the money, don’t do it.
I’ve met so many clients who don’t actually know what they’re getting into when they want animation, it’s astounding. They seem to think we just sit around and draw 100 drawings in one day and it’s all perfect. There’s never a need to fix something, there’s never a time when you make a mistake, it’s like factory work.
When you tell them that they’re not paying enough for what they want, or that there’s just not enough time to do what they want, they don’t want to hear it.

Anyway, what’s done is done. For the sake of Fighting Games I guess I hope it does well. If there’s any more remakes, I hope they’re done right.

*When you try to keep everything in check, sometimes it’s easy to lose sight of what the actual drawing looks like. You might think: “Yeah! Everything is moving perfectly!”, but sometimes the drawing just doesn’t look right. It sucks.

A Third Strike remake would not need to be redrawn in HD. Just upscale it and get some quality filtering, and we’re set. The focus on a 3S remake would be rebalancing.

A3 almost has as many versions as SF2, there’s no need to add another for a while.

So agreed.

Don’t get me wrong HDRemix is great (although a patch would be nice), but moving onwards is the right direction.

I think its a tough call…what game can you honestly choose that will make part of the community happy and the rest angry? -_-;;
