DeeJay is Bison’s Little Bitch
St Roundhouse
I know, I know. I’m whining like a girl, and I shouldn’t be. Pick Ryu or shut up, I guess.
Other characters are hard
i’m currently playing bison because i like having 10 different escape options on my wakeup.
When I first picked up vanilla SF4 I mained Sakura. There wasn’t much tech on her, so at the time she was garbage.
Made the switch over to Chun, and she got boring hella fast.
Then after talking a bunch to Jakob002(or Happy Medicine as he calls himself now) and watching his matches I decided to give Bison a try and I really liked him and stuck it out with him since Vanilla.
Because there wasn’t quite enough frustration in my life previously.
I just like his spacing and control of space. Plus he compliments my rose.
I don’t really main Bison (I play him from time to time when not using Hawk or Ryu), but he was the one I used when I first got Vanilla and knew next-to-nothing about fighters.
lets see here…what made me main him? honestly i cant remember. I actually wanted to play chun in vanilla to begin with on xbox360 pad lolz…then somehow i ended up with. Playing bison on pad was fun lol…however i dont miss it!
because I’d get merked by final psycho crusher as a kid playing Alpha 3. Why Capcom didn’t give him that as an ultra is beyond me
I started to play him right after I bought my fightsick, needed a charge character to learn how to play cleanly, I chose him among other charge characters because I liked the sound of scissor knees, may sound a bit dumb but that’s the main reason.
I remember not being able to defeat Bison in the original SF II on SNES and would always rage when I fought him. Many years later, I got more serious about fighting games. Then I decided to main him in SF IV. If you can’t beat 'em, join 'em.
I started with SF4 on a fightstick, which was new for me as well. So new game, new inputdevice. I couldnt pull off any moves. So I choosed Bison because of his fast walkspeed and by far the best normals in the game. Also his scissors are quite safe on block, his teleport is a safe wakeup, and with ex crusher I can escape from the corners.
Months later, I now can execute most of his bnbs and like to vary them with throws.
I especially love his fast punish c.lk xx scissor when the opponent is making a lot of pressure and you see a gap.
Still like his s.hk and his UUUAAAAHHHHH !!! during scissors or counterhits, delicious.
Just love to pummel those other street fighters to dust.
You pretty much nailed exactly why I enjoy using him. Just remember at higher levels all of his escape options can be punished or option selected if you get careless or predictable with them. Even so, he has one of if not the best escape tools in the game at his disposal.
Argh, Option selects. Never had the opportunity or resolve to integrate them in my game. I think I should start with option select s.hk during c.lp, s.lp (s.lk), c.mk xx combos, I think this is the most simple one? But at my level, I dont see my oponents much backdashing. Most time they just block or antiair. So at the moment I rather focus on some pcrusher crossup setups or when and how to land my hellattack into ultra. Still so much to learn , and at the beginning I thought bison simple. But thats really not the case.
I am playing ae on pc, so no 2012 patch out yet. Perhaps I should even train those scissor FADC c.lk… combos for the final killing blow, scissor FADC got some additional frame advantage as far as I know, dont know if it’s significantly noticable.
ever since 2012 dropped i’ve been getting option selected by everyone and their mom (all using ryu again). back to just blocking…
When HD Remix was released I was a little bored of using the same characters again and again so I said “Why not?”. I like playing a lot using pokes and normals, so I ended liking Bison.
When SF4 came out it was natural for me to continue using him and it seemed like everything I liked was still there. I think he’s a really fun character to play because you have to use a lot of mind games and I like that style.
Hmmmm…where to begin…
I’m an old head…38 to be precise. Born and raised in Hawaii. When Street Fighter 2 dropped, it was pandemonium all over the island of Oahu. I always naturally gravitated towards charge characters because my joysticking just wasn’t precise enough for the Shotos. When I finally got good enough to get to Bison in single player, his graceful yet punishing style just left me enamored. I told myself that if they ever released a version of SF that allowed Bison to be playable, that I would main him. This was in '91…my prayers were answered in '92…and I’ve mained him ever since. My heyday was from '92-'95…my Championship Bison was truly godlike…I had a 7 hit redizzy you wouldn’t believe.
Fast forward to 2009…I hadn’t played much of SF3 because it was such a radical departure from SF2 and it’s ilk. When SF4 vanilla came out, I knew that it was basically the spiritual successor to SF2 in pacing and timing. With very little practice, I took 3rd in an early Game Crazy tourney based on 17 year old muscle memory ALONE. Here is a vid of that tourney.

I was trying to spoof Gootecks from that early “I Got Next” trailer while I was eating haha…good times. My biggest obstacle right now is also my greatest strength…years of Bison experience. I’m so set in my ways…my muscle memory so hardwired, that I rarely ever use focus attacks or FDAC’s or any of that…and if I think to do it it’s heavily telegraphed…not at all fluid like when I’m zonin’. It’s an adjustment I’m trying very hard to make, but old habits die hard.
Thank you for your time.
Nobody else played him. Then Super came along and ruined the damn thing for me. Every time I play, I say “I’m going to play someone different”, then I end up just going back. I’m still doing it and it’s more than a year later… I’m actually better with Ken, but still looking for a secondary because he’s used so much online.
