What is guile's worst match up and why?

the newest tier list from ipw had rufus listed as 6-4, GUILE advantage… (it also had a 6-4 guile advantage over ryu…)

am I crazy? How does guile have a solid advantage over rufus and ryu?

I don’t seem to have much of a problem with Rufus. Rufus has to get in. I nail rufus more with df hk -> spinning backfist than most other characters. Standing jab shuts down a lot of dive kick attempts. Standing fierce is a solid anti air because rufus is big.

I have the most problems with fuerte. It’s a guessing game all day long. Good ibukis whoop my ass too. Akuma for me is pretty even.

I would say 5/5 for the Ryu vs Guile match up and 6/4 for the other match up in Rufus’ favour.
It will take a few months more until this tier list gets a little bit more accurate.

Along with Abel, Rose and Viper, my toughest matchups are against good Cammys and good Sakuras. Cammy has the smallest hitbox in the game and I find myself whiffing many normals and airthrows that usually connect with others. I can usually keep Sakura out for most of a round but when she gets in with her ex tatsu into crossup and mixup combos into super/ultra/stun. Defending her block strings can be difficult for me and if I guess wrong once, I pay heavily. Anybody else have trouble with these two?

Oh, I agree that El Fuerte is a real pain, too.

Dhalsim
Abel

Fuerte is too if someone doesn’t play aggressive

Sim is bad because you can’t even throw booms. Every time you throw one can hit you with fierce on reaction. He’ll probably eat your boom (sometimes he can actually block in time)except he won’t give a crap because he’s still way ahead with that trade, especially when he gets the counter hit (which will be often). How is Guile suppose to mount an offense without taking huge risks? He has to Focus or randomly call a limb and flashkick.

The only time it’s safe to throw booms is from full screen so why would this even matter to Sim? Your only weapon is EX boom and that can only get you so far.

It’s very much in Sim’s favor, I can’t see it otherwise. Sim’s slight damage boost is quite noticeable here and the big factor in the fight imo. On counter hit, Sim will be dealing 106 damage to Guile’s 50; that’s a problem. Not to mention the stun differential too.

I haven’t fought many Elf’s myself but the ones that do give me problems are the ones who know how to use their characters well. I find Chun-Li to be hard to deal with in the right hands as well as C.Viper. And recently, a real spam happy Achooma who knows his zoning and can wait out a match as well as any Guile. I find Ken annoying as hell too when he gets into his poking game. Dumb f+mk, I want to break his toes off.

Bison is without a doubt guile’s worst match up.

Lol Im not even going to explain how wrong you are. Unless your joking of course

el fuerte hands down

Nulo said Yoga Tower had huge recover, and its simply not true, you know you can cancel Yoga Tower into anything you want, Including another Yoga Tower. That move is great (just no so much in this match). The weak point is its startup, not its recover, as it can just be cancelled out.

Personally, I feel that Akuma poses the biggest problem for Guile. He can match him in the fireball war, he can play footsies, and he has the VORTEX~! There is no safe zone for Guile in this match.

Definately sim. I haven’t run into an Akuma player that dominated my Guile

You aren’t playing good Akuma’s. You won’t find many skilled Akuma’s online, but once you do find one, he’s quite a handful. He can outzone Guile, and his rushdown is very nonlinear, making it hard to keep him out. So on one hand you have to get in on him, and also worry about how to keep him out. You just have to really outplay him

Guile vs sim is one of my favorite matchups =o. I don’t really feel like it’s completely in sim’s favor. It’s more of a battle of attrition then anything else. Once you learn the mathup (sim’s limb ranges etc.) it’s not hard. I usually try to go for just a life lead at first more then anything else and just stay patient. Once i have a life lead i just go into defense mode. once either player has a life lead i think it goes 6-4 into their favor. Ex-booms help a lot in this matchup imo.

cannot handle Abel…I feel like Im losing as soon as the round starts. He pokes me and I cannot reversal or escape it. Its like once I block on of his strikes Im victim to anything he wants to do. I dont understand the matchup thread because they make it seem like you can escape his block strings by backdashing…I have tried this. I get hit during the backdash and once I block I cannot escape no matter how much i bang on my arcade stick to backdash. I just freeze. I need serious help with this matchup.:annoy:

lol Again?

I get a lot of trouble from Ibuki players. Those cross up kunais are just a massive pain in the arse to deal with when you meet someone who knows to spam them and I usually end up turtling :frowning: and plus the command dash always messes me up, especially when I’m turtling… such bad habits.

Sim isn’t so bad, you just need to mix up the lp, mp and hp booms, watch your distance and fa his pesky fp’s

Abel is an absolute horror to fight against in my opinion, the forward roll hurricane throw cross up is so frustrating.

I’m just a massive scrub, need to play more!

I think one thing to point out here is that the playstyle of both you and your opponent can have a big influence on the difficulty of the matchup. Akuma’s a good example; I’ve ran into excellent Akumas who mopped the floor with me because they had great zoning and patience to play keep away. On the other hand, if an Akuma stays in close quarters, even if they’re skilled, the match is much more manageable.

Bearing that in mind, I’d say the character I frequently run into the most problems with is Fuerte. While the crossup issue can be managed to an extent the more you play the match, when you combine it with his mobility and options it just becomes maddening in capable hands. Sim is frustrating but doable, and Viper/Abel I haven’t run into enough good players for either of those to have much of an opinion.

I misspoke. What I tried to say was how useless it is in the match. If a lp sonic boom is thrown and sim attempts to let it go under him, he either:
A )runs the risk of throwing out the yoga tower to early, and possibly eating the sonic boom
B) successfully bypasses the sonic boom
c) lets guile approach him while he’s yoga tower’ing

whether A or B happens, Guile is left with the opportunity of approching Sim, which Sim would much rather keep Guile at the length of his standing firece, and nowhere near.
