Maybe, maybe not. But to be concise, it should be rephrased that “didn’t a certain individual decide to abuse the frequently trafficked SRK front page as a way to masquerade his personal opinion some time ago?” As evident in this thread, the majority of SRK do not find that banter to be a voice of the community.
What is so controversial about this article? Is a message of “don’t be a douchebag” (and yes, that’s what I think the article is saying, not “Everyone in the FGC except us SJW Illuminati members are racist homophobic transphobic scumbags go go SJW Illuminati”) really so terrible? At worst, the article is extremely annoying because of its refusal to talk about what happened that caused it to be written. (Which is Ian’s fault more than M’Ellis’s, since I’m pretty sure the Twitlonger was meant for the anime FGC that, for the most part, already knew what had happened. I doubt the SRK frontpage readers were part of the audience M’Ellis had in mind, and I think Ian would have been better off writing an original piece if he wanted to say something.)
The article wanted to address a problem without identifying what the problem is
When Iantothebitch was asked to evaluate he shut down the comments.
When the problem was discovered, it turns out to be a personal problem, not one concerning the community
It was horribly written, vague and threw an entire community under the bus for the actions of two people. It was something that should have been on Live Journal not the SRK front page.
The personal problem was thought to be part of a larger problem, so the article was made. The one thing I find disagreeable about the article (besides the problems that we both agree are problems) is that DC of all people was the catalyst for it. Is it that hard to understand why it exists?
This is what I don’t get. It threw the entire community under the bus? All I read was a request to discourage bad behavior.
One doesn’t ask you to stop wetting the bed unless your bed is damp with urine.
And yes it’s fucking terrible. Negative adumbrations don’t help the community period, let alone solve obfuscated problems. Assuming these people wanted to solve them at all, which I really doubt all things considered.
honestly, this person if telling the truth on the sentiments of the things he said, is absolutely right. But. . . I think the community shouldn’t do something about this, he should. I’m not inclined to go deserve some guys punishment is justly so. Yet he feels that “he or the community” should do the things that is just, help out. Which is fine, and good. Kudos.
We are a people, if anyone wants to be apart of that people, let him or her do something about it.
I read these comments, most of you are basketcases.
What larger problem would that be? The way I see this doesn’t extend beyond being a personal problem. He could have settled it by confronting DC when they were in close proximity and close not to.
With youtube numbers showing and his account being pretty anonymous we can get an accurate view of the front page views.
He had like 200 views beforehand. The front page link granted him roughly 1500 views and less than 10 subs. The subs is the important part because now that he’s off the front page after a single day the traffic will end, and he’ll need them again for the next video.
My point is that the front page is a stable bonus of X views. But it does not make or break the youtuber, and it does not tend to give a long term benefit.
Most of us don’t know who DC is, so I can understand if it’s unfair he becomes the whipping boy for things. The more I read, the less inclined I am to believe he did anything terrible. Regardless, the issue stemmed from one person, not the FGC, and I’m taking people at their word that it’s a continual behavioral issue. It’s up to them to settle it, not TO’s or the rest of the FGC.
Softest is my trigger word. Please remain from using that word, or Hastag your sentences whenever using the word Soft so I can brace for trigger.
Because of this post triggering me, I’m currently working on an article in regards to how toxic the SRK general is. THIS ISN’T THE LAST YOU’VE HEARD OF ME!!
